Gaffney resigns from WGMD

I'm willing to bet there are a few people in this thread that used to work at WGMD and know the parties involved. I know there's at least one, because I'm one of them. I'm not sure what the last post meant, but Dan and Jared are nothing but class acts. I know this for fact.
 
So with Jared gone the speculation is going to be if he is joining Dan at Delaware 105.9. My guess would be yes. Sounds like Jared and Dan are close and Jared does a good midday show that would be good on the new station. The question is what will WGMD do with Jared's time slot? Do they hire a new personality or do they put in a syndicated show? This drama just gets more and more interesting.
 
Jared said on face book "the only question is at what time of day. no need to RUSH in to that decision.. but i have to pay my BILLS."

Is Glenn Beck coming to Sussex County?
 
Maybe he was referring to Bill O'Reilly, who hosted a radio show in the same 12 noon time slot as Rush?
 
Do you think DBC will pull a WILM/WDOV and put their 3 hour morning show on both stations?
 
Now I hear Andrew Murr is gone...sounds like everyone is getting out of WGMD...anyone have any idea if he is going to 105.9?
 
The more I see of this the more it looks like a shrewd businessman's cleanout of his company. That there are new call letters that surfaced elsewhere seems to be an incidental safety net that may have been there - or created.
 
What is shrewd about losing your revenue stream as a radio station? With talent leaving and advertisers abandoning - Jim Weller posted on Facebook that even though a long time advertiser, he was told he could not continue to advertise if he was also going over to WXDE. Huh?
 
I think he was implying that the mass exodus from WGMD is some sort of plan by the owners, who also have a stake in the new station. Which, of course, is not the case.

I could be wrong about that interpretation.

They did hire a new guy already, though. Bill Colley introduced him this morning during Jared's old shift. Fran had been covering for Jared, but with Andrew Murr gone, Fran took the morning shift. The new guy's name slips my mind right now. He's a local guy that worked in radio a long time ago. That's all I really heard before I got too busy to listen. It was also mentioned that the lineup hasn't been decided upon yet, so expect more changes.
 
Delmarva Broadcasting has been eyeing the Sussex County Talk Radio cash cow for a while. They had plans in place for the station before Gaffney left GMD.

GMD's owner finally showed up. Alex Pires owner of Jimmy's Grill posted this on twitter "Just talked to David S., longtime owner of WGMD: honest and easy to talk to. Lots going on."

Nothing about the owners having a stake in "the new station", which is really a format change. The owner made a decision as to how it is going to be, and those who like it fine; those who don't that's fine too. Funny thing about people who own businesses having that flexibility...whether they are "the new station" owners or any other business owners.

That would seem to be the case here. I don't know how much you know about the parties involved, but you aren't far off the mark.
 
Looks like a lot of speculations and rumors about this topic. Although it is very interesting to read, it looks like a one-sided discussion where everyone feeds off the other without any facts. I especially like the one poster that says he/or she is an insider that currently works for the company. Unfortunately, you probably know the very least of what's going on. I will admit that learning today that Mr. Bill C. will be on during the morning show is not a positive move. That of course is my opinion.
 
Just in: Although this did not come directly from the sales manager Mike Cobo, of WXDE "Delaware 105.9" Delmarva Broadcasting Company, it has been reported through very reliable sources, one of their sales team: Yes, Jared Morris will be included with their on-air team. I do believe that everyone knew that anyhow. No big news but interesting. I think it slipped a few days early. I need to get a facebook thing.
 
WGMD had a lightning strike on Thursday, took out FIOS which is not only internet, but phones. Talk about a run of "bad" luck. Bill Collie is now P.D.
