Gaffney resigns from WGMD

If you tune into the station, you will notice a marked decrease in the amount of commercial ads currently running. There are a number of advertisers who are talking about jumping to the new station on facebook. Once the new station hits the airwaves you will really see the advertiser shift.

WXDE annouced their lineup today

"Dan Gaffney 530am - 10am. Susan Monday 10a - 3p. The Delaware News Hour w/Alan Loudell 12n - 1pm. Jared Morris 3p - 7pm. Mark Fowser, News Director; mornings. Dave Ramsey 7p - 10p. More schedule and bio information coming soon for the NEW "Delaware 105.9" talk radio station."

Seven pages devoted to one person in a small market resigning from a radio station. You'd think it was the first time something like this ever happened. Is the goal to develop a new talk radio station, or destroy an established one? Both are owned by very business savvy people.

I think the interest is also about the gestation of a new radio station as much it is about "one person," especially in this day and age when a format change more often involves laying off people and seeing how much can be done with syndication and voice tracking from afar. Hats off to Delmarva for creating a new station with real people in place during the day and a veteran news man to start with. Looking forward to seeing how it develops

Asvce: Where did you find this info? What is airing between 2p and 3p? Loudell is only on from 12n-1pm. I've looked for some sort of link, couldn't find one. Can you provide a link.

In any case, if this info is correct, then Allan Loudell will be doing a statewide newscast/interview program each weekday at noon. Congrats Allan. Also, seeing Mark Fowser as News Director is a good thing too. Mark's a good newsman and a good guy to work for (he took over Allan's duties at WILM after Allan left for WDEL, I was still at WILM during that time). So congrats to Mark as well.

Gotta give Delmarva a lot of credit, it would be easier and cheaper to go to the bird for news/talk, but essentially they are replicating their live and local news/talk format in Lower Delaware, but making it fit Sussex County with talent Sussex is familiar with hearing.

I wonder if the new WXDE will carry CBS radio news as WDEL does. I could see WXDE simulcasting the WDEL local newscast at :02 after the hour when they cut away from CBS to complete the 5 minute newsblock with local news before going back to talk. Of course they'd then use some lower Del stories too so that it would be relevant to downstaters too. Unless WXDE already has a news staff, then they'd do their own newscast making it very local covering downstate.

Just a short time ago there was distress over two live personalities being let go from CAT Country, on 105.9.

Thank you for the link. While there I found their facebook page and found this posting by the station.

Delaware 105.9

News on the new station? Yes! It'll be like having a CBS news app in your dashboard. The vast resources of CBS NEWS and local veteran news broadcasters, Mark Fowser and Allan Loudell join the "Delaware 105.9" team on Sept. 4

So it does appear that WXDE will also join WDEL as being a CBS radio affiliate. Good move on WXDE's part. Sounds like its going to be a great station.

I agree very much with Mark Fowser's hiring. I know he was doing mostly weekend traffic reports on KYW 1060. (Though he may have been doing another job, too that I don't know). At least he is back doing news like he was at WILM. Fowser's was by boss when I interned at WILM May-August 2008. He was great at WILM.
