Garlands 95.9 is gone

Uh, no. The KETR tower is just west of the Texas A&M-Commerce campus on SH 11/Loop 178.

Hey Triple Fake Jerry

Is KETR coming to 95.9?

Maybe not, but maybe we'll get the "Ranch Network" up and running. :)

My bad on the earlier KETR.

Anybody know where Ginger, Texas is? I had to look it up, and found that it's near Emory, about 60 miles east of Dallas. Seems that it's the home of K240DS's new "primary station," KYFA-FM 91.5. Supposedly the station is on the air, running 200 watts ERP with an antenna about 150 feet high, and the owner has applied to the FCC for a license to cover. It was sold earlier this year by Hispanic Family Christian Network, Inc. to Central Park Church of God (of Garland) for $500,000. You may draw your own conclusions about the purchase amount, as well the level of difficulty in receiving the KYFA-FM signal for rebroadcast at either Garland or the K240DS transmitter site near Lake Ray Hubbard.

If that weren't interesting enough, Bill Wright's Gospel American Network has agreed to purchase the 95.9 Garland translator from Edgewater Broadcasting for the sum of $8,000. They've also agreed to purchase a 10-watt translator in Cleburne on 98.3 from Radio Assist Ministry out of Twin Falls, Idaho. It will reportedly continue to relay programming from non-commercial KVLW in Gatesville/Waco. The price for that one is $3,000.

I remember calling one of the numbers listed on KKVI's website, asking how the translator was pulling in the primary station. The guy I talked to threatened to call the police on me, for "breaking in". Seriously

KETR is on 88.9.
KETR is running HD signal too. They are running a GREAT college radio station. I wish UNT would listen to KETR sometime. Jazz is not a format for a college radio station.

Dan the MAN!!!
The North Texas Radio MAN!!!

Since yesterday at the afternoon they are back on the air again... they must have a good eng. department to pick up a 200 watt signal from 50 miles away and without distortion or interference from kxt 91.7 that; by the way; splatters my cheap car radio receiver signal from 91.5 all over the metroplex and up to Rockwall...

What are they broadcasting? The Spanish religious stuff they were before? Or are they actually rebroadcasting 91.5? Sounds like another video camera trip out to east Texas.

55 miles from "Garland" TX to the coordinates from the FCC website. That station ONLY has a CP, not even a license. The 60dbu contour of the station sure doesn't go very far... http://maps.google.com/?q=http://www.fcc.gov/fcc-bin/contourplot.kml?gmap=2%26appid=1412158%26call=KYFA-FM%26freq=91.5%26contour=60%26city=GINGER%26state=TX

I hate to tell ya but its all legal, They can feed the out of the primary coverage area non fill in translators any way they want.

No they can't. From the very link you provided:

Non-fill-in noncommercial educational translators on Channels 221 through 300 are prohibited from any alternative methods of signal delivery, including programming feeds by satellite. See 47 CFR Section 74.1231(b).

240 is between 221 and 300, last I checked.

They are the same people broadcasting, but now they now own and are using kyfa-fm as they primary station to feed k240ds... by the way it is the same programming on both stations, if some one goes 276 west, you will start to pick up the signal from Quinlan...

But they haven't been a translator, they've been an independent station. The Overland station was dark for a LONG time, and the translator kept translating. From the link you posted:
"Loss of Primary Station's Signal. The translator must be set up to go off the air if the main station's signal is lost. See 47 CFR Sections 74.1234(a)(2) and 74.1263(b)."

And they can only use other means to receive the signal IF they've requested a waiver. Who wants to go to Garland and ask for a copy of the translator's license? I'll buy you lunch.

I was just checking in to see what was going on with this. I had been listening to The Ranch more often and turned in to hear to Justin Frazel on my way to work this morning. I was sad to hear Garland 95.9 had returned. The Ranch and Garland fought the entire drive from Carrollton to Farmers Branch on Keller Springs and Luna.

I wish they would have stayed off the air. I was enjoying being able to here 95.9 The Ranch in Ft. Worth especially since khyi sound is horrible.

Here's what I've heard.... When the translator owner got word that the translator user was illegally transmitting, the owner shut him down.

Apparently the owner (who is in the business of selling translators) finally sold the translator to the same illegal operator. Why he is now retransmitting an allegedly on-air signal now is anyone's guess.

Wonder if illegal operator would like to sell his Overland license.... or is it even valid anymore?

Too bad we don't have a staffed FCC office in Dallas.. you would think they would do something about these crooks.
