GARY CRAIG WILL NOT BE RENEWED AT 965 TIC

He was just happy about shoving it up Gary Zenobi's and Tom Mitchell's asses. He hated them. He hates everybody, except himself. He's a great guy, just ask him. As far as the ratings go caliv, they may be good, but they are no where near what CBS thought they would be when they brought him back. They are definitely not making the return they used to make on him and the way they are cutting jobs in the company, they will not renew his contract. $300k in Hartford is astronomical as the industry stands now. They could get Damon for $75-$80k and make more of a return, especially since he is a known entity in the market now. Damon is also much easier to work with and believe it or not, that is a factor in management deciding to keep someone or not. If they are a complete tool to work with and do nothing without a "what's in it for me" attitude, management not likely to go to bat with corporate for your salary. I also don't think anyone else wants his hassles either. He has burned way too many bridges with just about everyone in the market.

Right On Sally!!! Tom Mitchell ruined TIC and Gary Zenobi was a weak GM with no clue on anything! Steve Salhaney continues to drive TIC further into the ground. Craig is over!!!! Damon will be lucky if he's offered 80gs at most. Wake up people--radio is dying.

Video,
Clearly you have not seen the Hartford numbers....Gary actually had a GREAT book.
I'm not defending him...He will be cut loose eventually but, get your facts right.
You tend to spread misinformation on these boards a lot.
Gary's numbers are the ONLY reason he has lasted so long.
God knows Suzane (the GM) would have tossed him long ago if his show didn't make money.
Yes he is a complete tool who hasn't done one original thing in 10 or more years BUT...Let's keep the facts correct.
He is slowly slipping and eventually will FAIL.
Stay tuned.......
Watch out J.K. @ wdrc...

i just think it's time to give some new talent a chance to shine. why should student graduating from csb or a communications degree from a CT college have to apply to Oshkosh, Wisconsin for a morning gig or roll the dice and wait for some overpaid no talent azz kisser to retire or die in the chair.

About the first poster in this thread...what was your source? I'm not doubting him getting released, just wondered what the source of all this was.

Hi KLM,
Out of respect for the "source"....who BTW/ has been there for years I can not name a name.
It would be unfair and I don't want to cause any drama for this person.
I can assure you that it is a VERY reliable source.
Somebody who works very close with Suzane and knows what they are talking about.
Damon and Jenine will do wakeup's as soon as CBS can bail on Craig.
This "source" however has also told me that they don't feel that Damon and Jenine have what it takes to win and that CBS will NOT give them more than a year to show numbers...I personally think that is a little unfair....Hopefully Damon and Jenine don't get completely screwed....I know Damon will NOT leave the market so this could be a risky move.

I just cant understand this!!

I havent ever heard anything like this about Gary,i always enjoyed listening to him!

I sent him an email yesterday and said hi..

When did all this start?

First, of all the people ripping Gary apart, I wonder how many of you ACTUALLY worked with him CLOSELY? It seems that some are people who worked in the same building at the time, and are mad that he didn't show up at the staff Christmas party. That is ridiculous. So what? Who cares? Most staff parties are on a weeknight anyway, cuz most companies are too cheap to rent out a venue at a decent place on a weekend night, and you forget that Gary has to wake up at 3:30 in the morning! It's easy for you to judge him when you are a part-timer huh? As far as not showing up to station events without getting a talent fee? He deserves it! Regardless of how you think he sounds (which is subjective, and everyone has their own feelings about that), he has been in the market for a long time. That affords you a certain amount of clout, and it goes without saying that once you reach that level, you stop doing things for free. You give management the idea that you will perform (and let's face it, that is what you do at appearances) for free. What talent in their right mind would do that? Oh yeah, part-time scrubs that have to do that stuff for free, and wouldn't know a talent fee from a hole in the ground. i personally worked with Gary closely in the early-mid 90's when he was at Kiss...the man taught me a lot, and couldn't have been cooler. Sure, everyone has their moments, but I honestly cannot think of ONE TIME that I felt gary was being a jerk. Never....good guy, I'm sure he is staying where he is

...RADIO IS IN MASSIVE DEBT.
This is what happens when you try to turn a Main Street industry into a Wall Street industry.

Here's the thing with Gary...
The man used to leave his tax forms around the office so that we could all see how much he made....He would CONSTANTLY ramble about his HUGE cash flow....When you're a struggling jock makin 30k and somebody says "I don't know how ANYBODY could live on less than 100K a year" you tend to get a little pissed. So I can see why some people are hating on him...
I personally don't have a problem with Gary....I've moved on and am quite happy with my career and life BUT, I'm just reporting that FACTS.
My friend in management says he's out SOON.
I didn't want to turn this into a Gary bashing thread.

I remember Gary Craig from his short stint with WBT in Charlotte. I liked his style, but he evidently grated on the wrong people. One day he was gone, and he's one of the few people that the writers of WBT's history avoid mentioning.

Later....

The dude obviously rubbed many people the wrong way. Very typical of CT morning show hosts. Big fish in little pond.
Egomaniacs usually gets what's coming to them.

I will cry no tears of sorrow over this. Though I do not wish anyone bad things, he's been over for years AND he's not a nice person. (I'm being nice in my phrasing of this so this response is not removed from the board.) You should never leave a knife around him because your back could be next. Thankfully he never had the chance to throw me under the bus, but he threw several friends under it.

He would stab his mother in the back if he could get away with it

Hello from Vermont!
Nice thread! SallysPizza pretty much wraps it up. No love lost here for either Garry or jk@wkrp. I have too much to say to fit on this board.

Ken

Worked with both of them and they are two very self-absorbed dudes. Market #50 and they want to rule the world. With numbers they pull down they couldn't rule Hooterville. You are right too much to say yet to little valuable time.

When I was at TIC in the 80's it was rumored Gary was yanking down around $200-$250K. Dunno for sure, but $500,000 doesn't sound so outlandish for Hartford. That being said, CBS is cutting like crazy - in one market alone they have to trim over 3/4 of a mil form the budget. When you're already running on a skeleton staff, that $$ has to come from somewhere. In the past year, CBS ditched Eddie & Jobo in Chicago and some other big players around the country and it wouldn't surprise me to see them broom Craig & co.
