Hey video-that's exactly the same story when I worked there. If they wanted him to show up at a station function, he had to be paid a lot for it. He never even showed up at the Christmas parties (before they were called Holiday parties, as I know he's Jewish and... so am I, but I showed up). John even hates him, but he sucks up to him because he wants to keep his gig. You wouldn't believe what John Elliott used to say about Gary when he Gary was gone. He used to also suck up to Kelly and Kline when they were there. Gary actually used to talk badly about me hoping that my now husband wouldn't marry me. Good thing my hub knew what he was like and knew me a hell of a lot longer than hew knew Gary. Gary didn't think I was good enough for him. I guess you COULD call that trying to throw me under the bus...personally. I remember the day Gary had to clean out his desk after he was let go. Ahhh, those were the days. But then there was Larry Wachs. A truly nice guy personally, but an ass of an air talent when it came to doing what he should for the station. That's because Tom Mitchell let him get away with things because he worked with him at WPXY in Rah-cha cha. Damon and Learjet filling in were funnier than Larry Wachs and Eric Haessler. Good Luck to Damon. He's a very nice guy and such a devoted father. That is the essence of a great person. He always talked about his kid with such pride and was always there when his kid was doing something at school.

Craig has a great voice but it's been the same old shtick for 20 years. GM of CBS of Hartford Suzanne McDonald has put up with his bs for years. He thinks he's god's gift to morning radio. The numbers don't lie and it's time for him to ride off into the radio sunset.
DRC would never hire Gary C. Especially for the $300k he wants a year. And that's a conservative estimate.

what a jerk & not alot of talent, there's NOT alot of "Love" for Gary Craig- and i CAN'T believe ANYONE is getting $300K in Hartford.

Back in 2004 an Account Executive at TIC-FM said GC was pulling down $300k a year. That was 5 years ago. Probably more like $450k. This guy is lucky to have a job in radio. He keeps his job by intimidating CBS management. He's somehow convinced management that he's the best thing in Hartford morning radio. They need him like they need their stock to drop. Same stupid unfunny bits! Over and over again each morning like a broken record. If CBS renews his contract they are dumber than dumb! ::)

Depends on the station. Lower watt am station between $40 and $60k. An fm 50,000 watt station probably between $150 and $200k. GC is grossly overpaid. But like P.T. Barnum said many years ago, there is a sucker born every minute. CBS Corp. are a BIG BUNCH of SUCKERS! :D

are there any 50,000 watt fm stations in hartford? for instance TIC-FM is 20K DRC 19,500- don't know about the rest but i don't think the wattage is that high out here New England.

It is referred to it as the equivalent of 50,000 watt depending on the altitude placement of the transmitter and the height
of it. For instance, DRC transmitter along with several others were on the West Peak of Meriden Mountain. KC, PLR and WTNH-TV are on Mad Mare Mountain in Hamden. KC based on height of transmitter tower has a 50k watt signal. Most CT FM's are on Mtn tops.

I'm sorry, but I thought this thread was about Gary Craig....hmmmm...interesting....anyway, we ALL have worked with people that are less than nice/respectful/whatever....let's get over it, and maybe stick to the discussion at hand...got a problem with some long gone morning guy at KC101? Start a NEW discussion
most of the Ct morning radio talent are overpaid. ::)

Yes. For instance, WDRC-FM is 19,500w Transmitter output horizontal/vertical, (H/V) i.e. Circularly polarized. It is the Effective Radiated Power that the 50KW refers to, taking into account antenna gain, transmission line loss, and antenna spacing.

A Class B FM station is defined as 50,000 Watts Effective Radiated Power at an antenna height not to exceed 492 feet above average terrain. If the antenna height of a station exceeds 492 feet, they are required to reduce power such that their signal does not exceed the predicted coverage for 50KW at 492 feet, which is approximately 52 kilometers for the 1mV contour.

WDRC-FM is 19,500 Watts Effective Radiated Power - HAAT is 810, therefore power has been reduced so that the 1mV contour does not exceed 52KM. Transmitter power output is 7,500 Watts, through the transmission line, into a 5 bay full wave spaced antenna which has an equivalent gain of 2.5. The gain is accomplished by flattening out the beam of the signal to give it greater concentration to the horizon.

Another example is WRCH-FM, at 7,500 Watts ERP. HAAT is somewhere around 1200 feet.

Both stations have an equivalent signal of a station operating at 50KW ERP at 492 feet.

Hartford has many 50KW FM stations - all operating with antenna height in excess of that allowed for a 50KW ERP.

What Tom Ray said is correct.

Are there any stations at or below 492 feet , and are actually radiating 50,000 watts?
The answer is, Yes, there is 1 station in the entire state of Connecticut which has a 50,000 watt ERP,
because the antenna is at 383 feet. WEBE-FM (Westport) in Bridgeport is at 50kW.

In Massachusetts there are several at 50kW (WMAS-FM, WXTK, WJFD, WPLM-FM, WQRC, WCIB, WOCN, WCOD, WFCC).

Rhode Island has 2 (WHJY, WWLI).

Massachusetts has two "super power" licenses. Stations who's parameters are somewhat above a standard class B.
WAMC on Mt Greylock is a class B, operating 10kW @ 1,968 feet (A standard class B at that height would be 2.2kW).
WGBH-FM on 89.7, which is double the class limit, operating at 100kW.

(Now back to your regularly scheduled thread about Gary Craig...)

How many times do we see these surly guys get great gigs, sound all compassionate on the air, then be outright nasty to their co-workers? You'd think he'd start to be nicer, but a recent interaction with Gary proved otherwise.

How worried about his job do you think Craig got when he found out that Sebastion was fired?
Great point!

why would sebastian losing yet another job concern gary craig? that guy hasn't held down a steady gig in years while gary has been just fine.
Its only my opion but I found Sebastian very enjoyable to listen to and I can't listen to Craig for more then five minutes.
