I'd like to hear about any bits based on the high price of gasoline that any of you may have done or heard being done...and...any promotional things that you have either done or heard/saw being done.
With the daily price-climbs, there is so much material there to mine, I was curious how creative our fellow radio folk have gotten.
One that may be old as the hills, but can still bring 'em in and get TV coverage easily is to sell gasoline at an area station for the same price as the frequency of the station, i.e., 99.5 cents per gallon for 99.5-FM. The station gets the gas at that price as part of a buy/trade agreement with the local distributor.
Limit the amount available to say 2,000 gallons, make the limit 20 gallons per vehicle and to top it off, donate the money received to a local charity like "Meals On Wheels" who need gas to deliver food to shut-ins. Win/win all around. (Make sure the promotions director gets the TV cameras/newspaper photogs out there!)
Whatta ya got to share?
Thanks!
