Gen-X Format in Nashville

>><<and take WKDF back to Nashville's Real Rock 'n Roll station. >><<

Since Someone has posted what all of this might mean to the employess and families involved in all of this, I do not want to step on any sensative issues as this pertains to many People not to mention the legalities of all of this, which I honestly admit I know nothing about; however, if the rock format returns back to KDF, make darn sure it is not just another 200-300 song classic rock station. If someone would just say "let's do it" and give the Nashville market a killer Deeper cut" type classic rock station, that would certainly be a great thing. There have been some examples submitted here that would show the way in this regard! Anyway, just my ole opinion!

The thing about that "Core" name (other than that bogus "contest" that came up with that name in the first place) was that it reminded me that "you don't get the whole apple, just the core." Was that the message that they wanted to send?

I get it... "Playin' the hits"... ::)

Agreed! I definitely do NOT want to see a return of the boring KDF of the '90s! ::) Nostalgia is NOT enough for me!

tell that to all the diehards stil pining for gerry house's return. after that last round of numbers, wsix's looking purdy vulnerable. kdf is healthy, and the future of the country format imho

KDF could take from the buzz and rock, but on a personal level I'd hate to see it just because of how rock-saturated this market already is. I'm all rocked out.

Just a thought...is it possible that Nashville is radio-saturated?

Crums no longer has the LMA with WSM-A you could take WSM-FM to a historic/classic sound and maybe (if done correctly - ehhh) really mess up 650 and steal a bit from SIX and make sure KDF is more of the cutting edge stations.

Doesn't Gaylord still "own" the WSM call letters. IIRC they still have some kind of say in 95.5's programing as long as WSM-FM is used on 95.5. I wonder if they dropped the "WSM" calls from 95.5 are they free to go classic country? The WSM calls (IIRC we serve millions) might not be required.

When WSM-FM changed ownership, Gaylord, as the licensee of the AM, would have notified the FCC that Cumulus could use the call sign WSM-FM. The AM station always has first refusal on the call sign and if someone (other than a co-owned station) wishes to share it, they need to submit an agreement from the AM licensee to the FCC. If WSM-FM would give up the calls, since they're a three-letter call sign, they wouldn't be available in the same manner as someone giving up a four letter call. The only facilities that would be granted the calls, with Gaylord's blessing, would be FM 95.5 and Channel 4, in the event that they really wanted to return to WSM-TV. Typically, the FCC reinstates the grandfather status for the original station. In the '80s, KHJ (AM) in Los Angeles had changed to a four letter call sign and, ultimately, returned to KHJ, which the FCC granted.

... mostly because the letters "KK" in Spanish (KHJ's current format) translated into something very, very awful.

So based on this thread, Nashville should be getting that "Journey" format in, say, 2014?

Not sure why this tired old thread was bumped up again, but Journey (in particular, "Don't Stop Believing," which I am sick to death of!) has been all over Nashville airwaves for YEARS! Maybe with any luck, we will LOSE Journey by 2014! ::)

Forget the no streaming at work rule; I'm loving this station...AND it's Cumulus-owned. Why can't they do that here!!?? (The only weird thing is hearing someone "named" Coyote McCloud).

http://www.929peakfm.com/
According to our departed radio legend, "THE TRUE" Coyote McCloud, The Peak 'McCloud' was an intern of his and asked for permission to use the famous moniker.

Coyote gave his blessing with only one caveat , "Don't Suck."

Well, Gen-X was officially snuffed out in Seattle over the weekend - after only one year!

The countdown to Gen-X in Music City is on! ;D
