1. KTTH in Seattle just moved Beck to mornings from PMD. But KTAR is trying to be more than just a talk station, it wants a news presence.
...and a traffic presence, a sports presence, a weather presence. The Master Blogger still things KT'R can be a general store while KFWhyEye concentrates on one thing and kicks his butt. Not bad for an AM station!
2. 1% of people ever call in. The six people who try and any given day can sit and listen to the phone ring 92 times before hanging up.
...exactly right. You listen for the entertainment value, not to hear Aunt Edna talking about how much rain Sun City received.
3. I wouldn't say Beck is vanilla; that's Neal Boortz's job.
...and old school KT'R talkers Pppppreston Westmoreland, Pat McBland, Michael Dixon & the Luvable One. We wonder if there is a contractual prohibition against re-runs of Glenn Beck. Rusty Humphries on the weekend is an annoying joke and we get the same thing from Gaydos during the week!
4. We're all paid what we're worth. Radio Econ 101: A talk host's job is to fill the gaps between stopsets. The more people that listen to the gaps, the more the spots cost, the bigger the host's cut becomes. Whether the host is good, bad, boring, etc.
...you sound like a recent grad of our Buckeye Media Hut, where Nurse Jeff and I remind young students that radio is still show biz.
