Glenn Beck Back on GST

I agree also. I didn't listen too himmuch the first time but enjoy his TV show a lot. I thought McConnel was boiring. Good Move. I think GST is going to start sniffing a 2.0 real soon.

Think so? They'd need a 40% jump to get to a 2.0 in 25-54, good luck on that one. And a 120% increase to get to their ratings back to pre Scandall Bloomquist levels.

Does Bloomquist really make ANY decisions? Larry Wachs made a comment on the HOW site that all decisions are made by Clear Channel Command and RB just does as he's told. What a job.

I'm glad Glenn is back on. He makes me laugh. Now I'll be flipping between him and Laura Ingraham.

Thank goodness there is another conservative voice on the air. I was getting worried that I would be without one for the nanosecond I tune to WGST (sarcasm impled.)

Beck's profile has risen since he started on Headline News.

It should be noted that Beck is usually tape delayed in the several major markets and is NOT in the air in NYC, LA, Detroit or Houston.

I imagine GST's ratings will see a significant bump in 35-36 males who vote GOP and live in Gwinnett County. It's a much sought after demo.

I thought Becks show was much better before he started the TV gig. THe radio show has been weak since then. But for GST, why not?

I worked in that sewer of a station as a board-op/producer for about 14 months, 3 of which were under RB's command. I'm not sure who's decision it was, but I know as soon as he came in, morale went in the tank.

We were hanging signs in the news room by the time I got fired that read things such as "The Beatings Will Continue Until Morale Improves" etc. I don't know what it is like over there now, since no one I really worked with at the time (Peterson, Hughes, Any of the Board-Ops, Most of the News team that broadcast from 1500-2200) are still there.

I'm wondering about this phrase "Coming Back" to Atlanta. It seems to me that RB's main goal when I was there was to syndicate the station as much as possible, and gut the staff, as it only takes one board op to run a syndicated show, who doesn't have to be anywhere near as talented as a live board op. Is Beck actually coming back to Atlanta, or has Bloomquist just picked up another syndicated show, who happens to have a name and a history with Atlanta listeners?

I'm asking these questions because I'm not really familiar with the talk radio game anymore, as I have moved on to bigger and better formats.

Also, earlier in this thread I saw where someone had asked if anyone could name someone who could beat Boortz. One names come to mind. Scott Farrell. Also, why not get out of the typical radio places to find a name? Ann Coulter was in the market for a radio gig at some time in the past, and she has that Howard Stern "If they hate her, why are they listening to her?" vibe. However, big names cost money, and ClearChannel will continue to tank as long as they attempt to beat top shelf talent while paying bargain basement prices.

In closing, let me say I would be extremely suprised to find out Beck is actually sitting in the Atlanta studios doing his show. I'm guessing it's going to be (yet another) syndicated show.

The best part of all is this. The last GST meeting I attended, we were told this: "We have done considerable market research and we've found that Atlanta talk radio listeners feel disconnected with SB, feel it's too far away, too big. There is a hunger in the Atlanta marketplace for a true local talk station. That's what we're going to be."

That was 3/06. Now, here we sit, with a station with one local show (R&S).

Good call Bloomquist.

Also, to answer your question, no I don't believe Bloomquist is making the decisions anymore. I do believe, however, that there was a time when he was. I still believe and always will that RB pulled the trigger to yank Peterson, as well as Schaffer. I wasn't a fan of Schaffer at all, but I certainly liked him better that what's on the air now. Basically, RB has turned GST into such a disaster area that corporate has taken over, and he's kept his job by getting in line and doing what he's told. You say "What a job." but don't forget, RB dug his own grave here. He had the reins, and he made such a mess they were taken away.

I too, was a board op at WGST for about 12 months and I remember that meeting....the power point presentation and Bloomquist informing us that we were bringing back the "W" in WGST. Apparently market research showed that listeners refuse to tune in without the "W". I also remember him saying that he wanted to introduce local Atlanta talk to the station in an attempt to intrest more listeners. Funny, because some months later I found myself recording Tom Hughes' farewell into the newsgen and being informed that the only live studio shows would be the 2 or 3 weekend morning shows, thus leaving weekday programming to syndication. On a final note, I miss "sleepy" the security guard and Smitty the janitor...

I think I know who you are, from this quote. Send me a PM. I'd love to catch up. I was Kimmer's board op/call screener when I got fired, prior to that I was Tom's producer, until they hired Crystal.

Peace.

No one will beat WSB...no one. I don't care who WGST puts on in this daypart, or any daypart for that matter...it won't matter. The only hope is that they can pull a little from WSB and Boortz with some decent counter programming like Beck. While Beck and Boortz will share topics the method of delivery and message will be different enough that Beck should gain some listeners...but no one should be under the belief that this will make WGST a WSB beater.

Becks in NYC, GST is just an affiliate. If I'm not mistaken, he was never really here.. I think he was in Philly when he was on GST before.

He was broadcasting from Atlanta on occasion, although I'm not sure how much of the time. Well, if Beck's in NY, I'm not impressed with this in the least. GST will never get anywhere until they get real local programming. Syndicated is syndicated imo, I don't care if it's Beck, Limbaugh, or McConnell, it all sucks.

WSB .....

Boortz and Clark sound syndicated and canned IMHO, even through technically they're "local". I know for Boortz the first half hour from 8:35am is Atlanta only, and maybe the 12:05 pm "Information Overload Hour" too, which helps. FYI Clark was better before Sean Hannity when Clark was live and local in the 4 & 5 pm hours, and Clark would also banter with Captain Herb.

I loved McConnell, but I really enjoyed Beck before he got yanked for the Denny Shaffer disaster too. I really missed Beck's ten second pauses in the midst of detailing the rape of a 3 yr old girl or whatever. If that's not great radio, what is?

Larry, I remember when you were Glenn Beck's partner for a little while on the (CHR) B104 in Baltimore morning show.

This week it seems we get both Larry Wachs and ericvon posting on the site. Look like potential first-timers on both of them. WQhat's next SSSteve posts. Conincidence or imposters?

You're right. Who know if it's really them?
