>David, I appreciate the response. I'm trying to understand why the Dodgers have had a Spanish-language radio broadcast of their games for 40+ seasons (Jaime Jarren still at it-- he's the Hispanic Vin Scully I guess

)
--> $$$. It is much easier to get advertisers for baseball than listeners. The audience on KWKW always falls, sometimes as much as 50%, in Spring and Summer.
> and the Angels for I don't know how many seasons.
--> We had the Angels on KTNQ. It was a ratings killer.
> If it's true that "incredibly few Spanish dominant Hispanics like baseball", then I just don't understand why the stations even bother to broadcast these games in Spanish. Can you explain that?
---> It is the ad revenue which for an AM is considerable. Since the Hispanic community is much younger than the general market, AM has even less use by Hispanics than by non-Hispanic whites.
> ??? OTOH Spanish-dominant Hispanics I presume would be big soccer fans...
In LA, where there are nearly no listeners from the Caribbean, soccer is the _only_ sport of interest among Spanish dominants (that is, those born outside the US).
> I think the station carries some soccer.
I think they have the LA Galaxy, but might be mistaken. The Galaxy is a US team, and of no interest. Only Mexican league and Latin American soccer is of interest.
> BTW 40% of the Angels' active roster (10 out of 25 players) are Hispanic all born outside the USA. With Angels and Dodgers each drawing 3.4 MILLION plus every year now, I would presume that SOME Hispanics like baseball.
--> Yep, secnd or third generation assimilated Hispanics who speak English. The Spanish dominants have no or limited interest. THis is mostly because there is very little baseball played in Mexico, especially the areas where the immigrants to the Southwest come from.
> Are they all English-dominant Hispanics??? I dunno. Were you simply referring to RADIO listeners in your statement I quoted above? Just wanna know....
---> Attendance and radio listening. The Spanish dominants do not have any background in baseball.
>On a side note, you could probably count on one hand the number of Angels and/or Dodgers games televised in Spanish each season.
Yep. They do have SAP, I believe.
>BTW during lunch today I was listening to/sampling 830 KMXE and they (sounded like two guys and a gal) were talking about some boxers and how much money they were making for their next fight (around 12:50 pm). They were alternating between English and Spanish -- Spanglish. It was interesting in a way that I could understand the gist of the conversation.... BUT what's the purpose of this type of programming?
---> I have no idea who this appeals to.
