Glenn Ordway is out at WEEI

Someone said on Herald messageboard "don't be too surprised if Howie winds up on 93.7".

Not so sure about that. What if they did?

--What does 680 do; simulcast Howie or go with someone else?

--They want to go young. Howie is 61. Does he talk at least a little sports? Tarheels, baby!
Howie on 93.7: the immigrant horn, Shauna O'Connell, chump line, death pool, gangster
talk...?

--They would tend to put non-politics, if done at all, in AM drive. So maybe they would get rid of D&C or move them somewhere else. Howie's 11 station network is stations that usually have their own local show in the morning...though of course if Howie did wind up on 93.7 you would have the EEI network to broaden his reach (RI, Western MA, Cape etc). Listeners in Bangor or Burlington might be out in the cold, though

Howie locked into Entercom till late 2014.

Is the Whiner Line the intellectual property of Ordway? I suppose that if it is, he can do what he wants with it. I thought that it was still a highly rated segment. I read that a lot of WEEI haters only listen to that part of the show. I can't see that this is going to help the new setup. Something tells me that new show isn't going to be any good. I've gone from a P1 to D&C only. Actually if they hadn't gotten rid of Winter, I might have stopped listening to them too.

It would seem that WEEI has a serious security breach. Two leaked stories in one week has got to get someone's attention. Unless it's Wolfe or Brown (for what ever reason) they have a rat in their midst. I would think it should be easy enough to narrow down who it is. I hope they make an example of them. I hate people like that.

I can't believe that Muttnansky still has a job.

He's making it sound like the Whiner Line is indeed his intellectual property and he'll take it (and the Whiney Awards) with him. Maybe some of the reg. callers (one at least is a comedian who does many voices) may occasionally call in, in character (Jerry W used to have Jay Charbonneau do
Dukakis or Steve Sweeney do Kevin White; a Menino impersonator was on with Kuhner).

It may have been inspired by Howie's Chump Line (for awhile didn't D&C copycat it with
"the Dump Line"?) Years ago on the old Alan Colmes show he did "radio graffiti, call in with one
sentence, one sentence only". Howie claims that ChumpLine is orig. and not a copy of that
(Howie's chump line is recorded voicemails, not live and certainly more than one sentence...
Graham has done something like the Confession Line)

Ordway gone. Mutt still there.Give me a break. Jason Wofe f---ed things up real bad when he made those changes 2 years ago. Ruined mid day and afternoon drive. Would EEI be in as a bad a shape if those changes had NOT been made and if they went 93.7FM 6-12 months sooner.

AFAIK, he still does——tail end of his evening show: 1.480-WSAR and 1.520-WWKB.

Depends on the contract. A typical employee does not have property rights to things he creates for his employer. NBC claimed rights to every character David Letterman created on Late Night (no Larry Bud Melman on Late Show.) . Howard Stern didn't have the rights to his recordings. Letterman ended up having his production company own the rights to Late Show and sell it to CBS so Late Show owns everything.

Entercom has a Whiner Line on WGR Buffalo

I can foresee the following - D&C to WRKO and Ordway doing mornings at WEEI by around Opening Day.

There's only one problem with any suggestion of D&C changing frequencies and that's their NESN simulcast. From what I've read, their contract makes them nearly unmovable for the length of the deal unless NESN decides to go in another direction. While NESN remains in the picture, D&C can't be shifted to RKO. NESN's not interested in a political morning show.

Ordway on XM/Sirius?

If Mad Dog (not very well known outside of NYC, albeit the top market) can get his own channel, why not Ordway?

Ordway's done a ton of fill-ins for Dan Patrick on Fox Sports Radio. I wouldn't be surprised if you saw him in a national slot on one of the networks.

I think Glen was serious when he mentioned Larry Johnson was aboard that doomed Carnival Cruise on it's way to Alabama.
I hope LJ makes it through the squalid conditions!

Ordway could have some nice options. I don't know what kind of noncompete issues he may face though?

According to Chad Finn, the morning show could be in the crosshairs next:

"The morning program, featuring John Dennis and Callahan, topics of fierce criticism during that focus group, is in some flux with the firing of six-week update anchor Kevin Winter this week and its pursuit of Comcast SportsNet New England’s Mary Paoletti for a role much more significant than reading scores every 20 minutes. Paoletti, effortlessly likable alongside Tom Curran on “Quick Slants,’’ would be a fascinating addition, but the program also requires subtraction."

Dennis and Callahan could very well be next. Why Entercom didn't go to FM as soon as CBS revealed they were getting into the Sports Radio game still baffles me although I think this shakeup at WEEI was inevitable.

Did the focus groups actually like the mid-day show? They are losing to what, by all accounts, is the Sports Hub's weakest show.

Boston Sports Media Watch was saying today, where may Ordway end up--and that there are quiet rumblings that "Greater Media may want to dip its toe into sports" here. Really? WBOS, WMJX, WROR, and WKLB are all doing well as far as I know and 96.9 just changed. More importantly again would a fifth sports talker in town do anything, whether it's Clear Channel's 1200 or BOS or something. Would CC spend $ to put Ordway on 1200, then make it Fox Sports otherwise? Or would GM do the same
with, say, WBOS?

Or 1510 but would it be worth their while? Maybe if Ordway did brokered time...and again we're
talking Ancient Modulation here. (And getting back to CC, I think Fenway1912 wondered if maybe they could do sports as 1200 _and 101.7_, sorry elec-dance fans, but again the signal is limited on 101.7. Still you wonder.. "fox sports 101.7" anyone?

what if gm buys 850??? Entercom could well be ready to maybe sell in a year or two and i know espn gets clearance, but with 97.5 the fanatic in Philly they do espn and some local hosts. The station btw is owned by Greater Media.
