Glenn Ordway is out at WEEI

What is Holley's contract status? I would think that he might jump off the Titanic. Who could blame him? I have very little faith in Jason Wolfe's judgement. Something tells me that the new guy is going to be horrible. He thought Kevin Winter was good, but he was so bad that they had to dump him in six weeks. Wolfe broke up Dale and Holley which resulted in screwing up two shows. He dumped Pete Sheppard, who was always very popular. I can only assume that Mutt is paid around $10 per hour and that's why he is still employed. I've listened to parts of the show over the past three days, mainly because of the Ordway situation and no one can really believe that this moron belongs on the radio. Oddly enough, I'm starting to like Minihane. Or it's possible that compared to Mutt he sounds good. Mutt makes the mistake that all talentless hacks make. He tries to be funny and he just can't pull it off.

I listen to the radio too much anyway. It's time to read more.

When he got moved to the Big Show two years ago, it was because his previous contract was up and they wanted to prevent him from jumping then. Seems like the Entercom standard is 4 or 5 year deals, so I'd wager he's still locked up for at least two more years if not longer.

Nice end to his show today.
I wish him well in his future endeavors.

edit: kind of rough to hear him say how other than Wolfe nobody from management reached out to him to wish him well, despite all the money that's been made over the years. Fair point by Glenn.

Sounds like Jeff Brown made the call.

Interesting how he said he didn't believe the decision for him to go was made by Wolfe. But he ended the show with class.

I'm curious about the status of the Whiner Line. At first I assumed that Ordway was taking it with him just because he could. But the more I think about it, I wonder if management just pulled the plug on it. I can't see how they could prevent a call-in radio station from taking calls. If Ordway owns the name "Whiner Line", can't they just call it something else?

Did the focus groups say that the whiner line had run its course? At one time it was a pretty big deal. I know people who don't like the show, but turn it on at 5:45 just for the WL.

Don't know but yesterday Glenn said it was not a ripoff of Howie's chump line. They said they had a complaint line and they sometimes would play calls from it because they thought they were funny. Complaints about the signal at night, etc.; supp. the first call was the woman
saying "Hello! I am wondering what is happening to WEEI in the evenings..." They then decided to just use that line as a regular feature and soon listeners started to call it,
be creative, create characters

They made it clear that the WL was over. I suspect that they just don't want it anymore. The more I think about it, they couldn't stop the concept if they just called it by another name.

I've read Chad Finn celebrating on a couple other sites. I thought he was a punk before. Now I think even less of him.

Sounds kinda lame. Why would anyone broadcast the complaints they get? First time I heard it it sounded like a Chump Line ripoff to me. I remember Bob & Zip on AAF played voice messages to their question of the day, making clumsy attempts at bleeping out the bad words and cracking up in the background.

Felber mazz and gasper all did tributes to lynn classical s own glenn ordway today

Fred Toucher also mentioned it. Pretty classy move by Fred to acknowledge Ordway and his stature in Boston sports radio. He blasted the entire situation and decision but said it was pretty cool that WEEI let Glen go out on a Friday and go out "his way" so to speak.

Felger andmazz were shocked and dismayed that their friend and mentor was treated so callosly by corporate masters trying to correct a decade of debt and bad decisions

When you think about it, if you made a list of the programming and hiring decisions that they've made, especially since the Sports Hub launched, you'd be hard pressed to find a good one. They went to FM, but they should've done it sooner and they got rid of Winter, but that just corrected a mistake that they'd just made. I guess that getting rid of the D-listers on the Big Show(LJ, Sterns, Smerlas, Burton, Borges, et al) was good but they also got rid of the A-listers (Buck, McAdam, Perillo, Curran, et al) so that's a wash at best.

See though I think part of the reason people listened to the Big show was to hear the "D Listers" and their interaction with Glenn especially Smerlas, Deossie & Buck.
Part of it was to hear Glenn jab his buddies while they talked sports and then the callers got to join in too with the whiner line.
It all worked very well an then EEI dropped it for some unknown reason.
I also think the firing of Dale was a bad decision, Dale is bland but with the exception of night times mid days is when you want a bland, no nonsense sports guy on sport talk radio because it's the die hards, the hard core sports fans that listen to sports talk then and at night - though the night show also has to contend with the young fans that don't all in during the midday hours.
They should've gotten rid of D&C when they had the opportunity when their last contract was up.
They should have brought in a fun show that is a hybrid of sports & guy talk, have the experts on once a week for a segment or two including a fantasy football expert one day, NFL expert during the NFL season, MLB one during baseball season, maybe have on the Herald's Sox beat writer once a week and the Patriots beat writer too.
I mean it's not rocket science and I know there are some on here who like the political talk D&C engage in but I just don't think it works on sports talk radio, even in Boston - I grew up in Boston, spent 33 of my 42 years living there including 11 years working in radio there so yes I do know the market.
WEEI has an uphill battle against the Sports hub but they can get back on top if they make the right changes and bringing in a pro like Mike Salk is a GREAT first step!
I would also do what I could to pry Rusillo away from ESPN and man wouldn't it be something if he and whomever they team him with took over for D&C, holy cow Deano would lose his mind! I think Ryen is a tremendous talent with strong ESPN ties, great voice, knows Boston sports and I could see him being the cornerstone in the morning.
I'd like to see him on with Salk but I also like Holley and I'm sure he's staying put and will be Salk's co host but having Rusillo as the main talent in the morning with a strong co host and Salk & Holley in the afternoon is a good way to rebuild WEEI.

I dont think Entercom can afford Rusillo but the EEI job is the only job he'd take because he'd love to be the reason John Dennis is out of a job.

D&C SHOULD have been fired after the gorilla fiasco but.....

I think it is safe in saying that Mike Lynch is the last person standing in Boston sports media from the 80's and he has avoided being on radio.

Chad posts only on his boston.com site. What are you talking about?

but they can get back on top

They can rebound a bit but get back on top? I don't think so. The drive time lineups aren't going to be competitive.

Holley is now the focus of The Big Show . I would question those who think this is a net+.
