Glenn Ordway is out at WEEI

I am not sure how much Ordway "let his show get stale." The changes to the show's format were not Ordway's decision. They were top-down. As much as some of the old co-hosts were lame, the old format of rotating co-hosts seemed to work.
The rotating co-hosts worked well for a long time. The mistake was to slow down the rotation. There were weeks where Larry Johnson would be on three times. Everyone has their favorites, but Ordway had a few doozies like Butch Stearns, Smelas, Steve Burton, Borges. He also had some excellent ones like Buckley, McAdam, Curran, Perillo, Gammons, Caron, et al. They should have put a lot more effort into determining which hosts the audience liked and which ones made them change the station. Was Brett in charge of booking the guests? I know he was dismissed abruptly. It was shortly after that the show started to change drastically.

My main point is that I think Ordway is a hard guy to hate. I think he's probably gained popularity since he was fired. Obviously Dennis Drinkwater still counts him as a friend. And even though he's probably pretty well off(I'm guessing, I don't know) people feel bad that he lost his job.

How? He has mentioned the internet, but I doubt he would get any traction with people who liked him.

My god. The guy who got gassed is not only right behind the plate during a telecast of the team his former employer owns radio rights to broadcast, he
a) Was there with a sponsor who is canceling
b) Was recognized on the TV Broadcast
c) Apparently was having a hullva time at the old ball game

Great week for Entercom. A guy given a 30 percent pay cut defies industry tradition and walks. A guy who got fired lives to laugh at them.

Are you saying he could work on the internet? From what I gather, his decline was because he lost young listeners to F&M. The listeners that were left aren't going to be listening to an internet show on their computer or smartphone and there aren't many cares with the an internet connection. Another thing is that until there is some breakthrough program, internet talk will be seen as something of a joke.

"Take it out on the expensive talent" is a fine excuse. Glenn's a Hall of Famer. Too bad if they can;t take a joke. He'll be back on not on the internet.

Today's quiz.....

Q: On the RadioInfo boards, what does it take to go from.......

"He's an obnoxious, overpaid, rude, talentless blowhard who got lucky !"
To
"One of the greats, I bet Gulielmo Marconi has a statue of him on this dashboard in heaven !"

A: Get fired by Entercom

TSB

I was under the impression Ordway allowed the show to become stale with his guest host picks -- he was the PD for a fair chunk of the show's run.

Listening to Smerlas mumble his way through another horrible joke about someone's back hair made me turn off the station a bunch.

I have a 'hunch' of what is about to happen. I think you will see Ordway surface at 98.5 doing a 'Sports Huddle' type show on weekends and have the backing of Giant Glass.

I don't know is it me or does there seem to be a uncomfortable feeling when felger and ordway hosted sports tonight last week???
