GM at CC GSO Bites The Dust

Surfdude is a good guy who works for a good company where there has been no management changes for years and the staff seems to be respected. Curtis Media wins with low turnover, consistent programming, and a really strong sales team. He may not remember just how bad some operators can be.

Surf and I debate programming philosophy quite often, as no two programmers can ever agree 100% on every single thing... b/c programming a radio station is not done by committee ;)

With that said I can attest that he is far more experienced than an $8/hr board op. He's a seasoned, respected programmer and most recently was so in Raleigh, opting to go to part-time to concentrate on his burgeoning production company.

We agree to disagree (even though I'm right! ;))

Hey, I wasn't trying to stir things up. But, it becomes painful to read
mean spirited posts. I don't think anybody should be kicked when their down...
in a semi public forum. People are generally pretty civil in the NC section.
Although, some of the other boards get down right nasty.

Many GMs and PDs read these boards...for fun and the latest gossip. Play nice,
you may be interviewing with one of them in your future.

$8 and hour? No. But. don't give my boss any ideas!

Too many people just don't want to see CC win. As a company, I agree, but there are some decent people still employed by them and they've had a rough time the last few years. I doubt any of those stations will be as on top as they once were, but at least they can have a civil workplace! And, you don't have to have the #1 station to make money. You just have to sell smart. I would say one thing those guys have learned and that's humility. Something we could all use a good dose of. I think the current economy is going to help us all learn that lesson.

When Kim gets the bloodletting mandates from the CC meetings this week, she'll wish she was Tex. You think voice tracking is pervasive now, you ain't seen NOTHIN' YET BABY! You think there are too few managers running too many stations, you ain't SEEN NOTHIN' YET BABY! Six-figure talent: GONE! Advertising the product: GONE! Promotions: GONE! Benefits: CUT EVEN MORE! You will pay CC to administer your 401 (k). You will pray that Obama's health care plan passes and QUICK!

This is not negativity, this is the reality of Bain and the new CC. And here's the real funny part: No matter how much they cut, no one can BUY their stupid stations. The model is broke and they broke it.

Lot of good people over at CC sweating hard, with a lot of smoke being blown up thier collective hiney's...
