David Gold, who I believe was once called the "Conservative Freight Train" while at KLIF/570, is filling in for Gary McNamara all week on WBAP evenings, then for Mark Davis part of the following week. He's not on the local airwaves regularly anymore, right? Could he be auditioning for a permanent spot on the 'BAP schedule? I don't know where they'd put him (maybe McNamara's spot; surely there's things more engaging to talk about than Gary's days and days of Michael Jackson, and the Wright Amendment, ad nauseum, long after the 'topical-ness' had worn off.)

I noticed that ABC must be clamping down on WBAP, forcing them to run more ABC network programming, like daily doses of "America's Most Wanted," formerly run locally on weekends only. Could be with the forthcoming re-try of a Mark Davis syndie morning show, Gold could fill those first couple of hours until Davis goes "live." Perhaps a shifting of Limbaugh to yet another hour later, and same for Hannity, then cut the evening local talk program to two hours. Ideas?

With my political leanings, I personally would cut Limbaugh (hey, he's not an ABC property, and he wouldn't be a threat on any other station...remember when KLIF had him initially in 91-92,) relegate Hannity to graveyard, extend Hal Jay from 5AM-noon, bring back the noon news hour, broadcast the Midnight Trucking Show from 1pm-5pm, do an hour of local news from 5 to 6, then Randy Galloway from 6-8, and play old Bill Mack airchecks from 8pm-midnight. hee hee.

I give ya 20 bucks McNamara and Rush are on their way out at 820. Both of them are broken records when it comes to political dicussion and, in rush's case, are past their prime. I have a feeling 820's going to (eventually) carry the whole mark davis enchilada, with hannity (live 2p-5p) and (possibly)gold from 5-9p...

It would be refreshing to actually have Rush gone( oh oh _jim the resident "right" will take issue) BUT WBAP will not eliminate drop Rush. Gary maybe, but I doubt that as well. They already have Mark in his time slot,so they are happy. In short no changes at WBAP,but it will b einteresting IFThe Stars play this year.

The conservative playground

> It would be refreshing to actually have Rush gone( oh oh

With one of his 75-word sentences that goes on and on and on equating everything since the New Deal with Socialism.

Jim ain't heavy, and he ain't my brother.

> BUT WBAP will not

It would be difficult to fathom WBAP dumping the fat man. Stranger things have happened but ..

How 'bout one token liberal or moderate for those of us not falling off the right side of the Earth.

>Gary maybe,but I doubt that as well.

Does his voice sound like nails on a blackboard to you?

Prediction ... the players will cave, a new union will form but the NHL will play. Some players, because of the layoff, will retire or be forced to.

Re: The conservative playground

The one place conservatives have and that liberals will never dominate and you guys just can't handle it. Get over yourselves already. You want to hear your point of view? Open a newspaper, turn on the T.V., go see a movie, go talk with one of your buddies. Give each other a hug and discuss how intellectually superior you are to all us poor ole confused conservatives. It'll make you feel better.

This is a radio discussion board. Not a place to bash your fellow posters and post your political opinions. I can't stand Howard Stern. I think the level of discussion he brings to our society brings everyone down. Why would I want to put that garbage in my head? How could anyone Stern's age go on and on everyday talking about sex and other juvenile humor? I don't know. But he exists because people listen. He makes the company he works for, his advertisers and himself a boatload of money. Same with Rush, 820 et al, 570 et al, 660 et al and all the other conservative talk hosts. They are there because they are making money. And unlike most on this board who hide behind the cloak of anonymity while posting, you know who these people are. It is so easy to tear people down and so much harder to lift them up. What have you done with your life today?

What does that mean? "Get over yourselves ..."

A meaningless phrase ... except to you apparently.

You should not be upset that liberals have produced Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, Head Start, the Voting Rights, the Civil Rights Act, clean air legislation.

Just because by definition conservative means stay the course and status quo is no reason to get defensive and mean.

Perceptive of you.

We were talking about conservative radio hosts. Well, until you introduced your snide remarks.

Agree again.

You shouldn't. I don't.

Not everyone feels that way obviously.

How could anyone Stern's age> go on and on everyday talking about sex and other juvenile

He does it for money.

Absolutely, radio is primarily a business not entertainment just as Kroger's is a business first, not a place to feed the hungry.

Re: The conservative playground

I'm too busy hugging trees, thank you.

Re: The conservative playground

" And unlike most on

That sentence alone pretty well serves up the conservative motto. POWER, CONTROL ,MONEY AND NO DISSENT. Geez now hasn't histroy shown that dissent was the spark that lead to the birth of this country against control, and power? I guess the conservatives have forgotten about that. They prefer a Joseph Goebbels approach to information.

Re: The conservative playground

You know I would have expected a better argument from you edward.

I will continue because it directly relates to this board. But this is RADIO-INFO.com. A bulletin board designed to post discussions relevant to Dallas radio (no matter what Batman or others "perceive"). You and others seem to think this is a forum for you to put on your own radio show in written form without being relevant to the topic what-so-ever. I never said that no one was allowed to dissent. I think everyone has the right to dissent. At least have the courage to stand up for what you say and put your name behind it. You would have no trouble finding out just who I am. I am who I am and I'm not ashamed to put my name behind my opinions. When you post garbage here, just running down everything in your path and hide like a coward, not willing to tell us who you are, you are no better than a sniper hiding in the darkness taking down anyone in your sites and then running away hoping to never be discovered. What are you afraid of? The government isn't going to come banging on your door and haul you off to jail. How does that have anything to do with POWER, CONTROL, MONEY or NO DISSENT? Of course if you were some confidential informant blowing the lid off some story of corruption or illegalality that would be different. Your identity would deserve to be protected. In this case, it's just an exuse for bad behavior. Your argument is intellectually empty.

I think BrainDeadPrez's original post was right on topic, interesting and his reply to my post damn funny and classy.

As far as Batman goes - I think you are confusing the terms "conservative and liberal" and "republican and democrat"

I think it's pretty easy to see who wants to have opposing views silenced. When you ridicule your fellow posters personally just for having a different view than you, it seems that you are the one interested in power, control and no dissent. Tolerance in your case seems to go only as far as one agrees with your point of view.

And finally Mr. Murrow, surely someone that has posted 2052 times as you have knows that you can click on the posters name and there's a nice little page for all your personal information.

Thanks for the kind words! After me getting entirely too wrapped up in the Kerry movement last year, I have to step back and have some comic relief sometimes...sure, I take it all seriously, but politics is mostly pointless to argue. I respect the fact that you do have an opinion, which is more that I can say for most folks in the USA, who let themselves be led around and swayed by whoever talks the best line of BS! (Or worse yet, those that take no interest and don't bother to vote.)

The word is perceive, not matter how you spelled it in the '80s, it is still perceive.

>Your argument is intellectually empty.

When you can't spell perceive, it leaves some doubt about your intellect.

I never brought up Republican and Democrat. You did.

Most progressives of this century were Democrats to be sure. Teddy Roosevelt was an exception.

You simply cannot dispute that nearly all of the progressive legislation of this century was proposed by the Democratic party.

Nearly all modern Republican are conservatives. They want to preserve the status quo. By definition, that is conservatism.

If you disagree with progress, so be it. Nothing to be ashamed about, I guess, or get so excited about.

Your heroes are William McKinley, Calvin Coolidge, Herbert Hoover and the like.

No problem ... Ronald Reagan said he admired Coolidge. So be it.

Nope. The topic of conservative talk show radio did got into the topic of consevatism vs Liberalism and conservatives vs everyone.

I never said that no one was allowed to

I think everyone has the right to dissent.

Well ok you changed your mind .thank you.

At least

Interesting. "The 80's Guy" is a real name?

You didn't this time and creating a Normal looking pen name wouldn't surprise me.

Nothing. I never ran,and your "outing tactic" is old and droll.

The summer heat and the ozone action days must be making you miserable. try to stay cool anddon't over exert yourself.

Ladies, Ladies,Ladies...enough estrogen and catfights. The last time I checked we were talking about Gold doing a fill-in. Calm down and take it down a notch. IMHO, id rather hear gold on than Gary Mac, David seems to have his thoughts together a heckuva lot better than Gary Mac, whos just been a broken record as of late.

OK ...

Slambang prefers "The Conservative Freight Train" (Gold) to the caboose (GM)

I still say GM's voice is much like nails on a blackboard.

Does he really sound like that in person?

Imagine his wife's misery.

WBAP has no room for David Gold. I'm sure he likes the exposure of being on the top talk station in the region though.

So you want WBAP to fall to about 25th place?
Listen, I like Limbaugh's show. Many people in this area do. His ratings are strong. The idea that he wouldn't work on another station is flat wrong.

Limbaugh was not on KLIF in 91-92. He was on KLIF for a few hours on the weekends only from about the time he started his national talk show in 1988 until 1991 when he moved to KUII 1190AM. That station had him until October of 1992 when WBAP picked him up. 1190 started slow but wound up with around a 3 to 4 share when Rush was on. They had no more than a 1 share at any other time of the day. When Rush left, that station tanked and WBAP took off.

And I would like to give the bone head programming award to the powers that were at the Susquehanna nation at the time. I've always wondered why they missed the obvious by not putting Rush on live weekdays. Perhaps we wouldn't be singing dirges in the the dark every other rating period for 570!
