Graham to afternoon drive 3-6

Well, this really stinks. Michael Graham and Howie Carr are my two favorite talk shows. Now they are on at the same time. My guess is Graham finishes 3 behind Carr and Severin. Wasn't he doing well in the 10-2 slot?

It's a crucial baseball game, and one team sends up a great pinch hitter in an important situation. What does the opposing team's manager do? He takes out his pitcher and brings in someone who can get the batter out, perhaps his ace closer ("so Papelbon comes in here in the 8th to try and get the final four outs"). That's what they did: they know Severin could do them damage and they figure maybe it's best to put Graham in that slot.

WTKK seemed to think they could go for lighter talk, etc., and when Severin was thrown out they brought in a light-hearted talker, Meehan, someone who wouldn't be controversial at all.
But now with Severin and Carr as opposition on the AM dial, in the important pm drive,
they figured the ratings would plummet now that 1200 gives listeners another option.
Plus, a little over a year of election talk. TKK figures it might as well put someone strong on
in that vital time slot.

Graham will actually be 3 to 7 by the way, followed by 7-10 being the wonderful "To Be Announced" (see below). Oh, and WXKS is doing a one hour rebroadcast of Jay at midnight sim. to the WTKK days when they had a "Radio Rewind"

So what airs on TKK at 7? It doesn't say anything between "Michael Graham" and "John
Batchelor" (10p). No, I don't think they're going off air during those hours! My guess is they
could rebroadcast Smerconish (he already had that slot via delay) or maybe Hank Morse
or who knows...maybe one of the syndie shows that isn't being heard here... Don't they have a relationship with CNBC/MSNBC, etc.? For all I know they could simulcast that.

As @bostonradio pointed out to me, and it's on the WTKK site, they are running a Wall St Journal show called the Daily Wrap 7-9 pm then going to Batchelor

I can't stand Graham myself and think giving him 4 hours is a mistake but the chess game is understandable.

Apparently just breaking as of Saturday afternoon (08/20): Dan Kennedy, professor at Northeastern U and operator of the Media Nation blog at dankennedy.org, has tweeted that Graham made jokes at the expense of a person afflicted with dwarfism during his (Graham's) show Friday. Right now, this info is only at his Twitter account (linked by universalhub.com). It may be amplified on his blog. There will be no "Beat the Press" programs on WGBH-TV channel 19 until after Labour Day (I was just listening to some Bristish music, Elgar's "Enigma Variations" on WCRB, thus the spelling) so he won't be making it his rant for the week for a while. Now he wants WTKK to make an audio file of that exact segment available on their website. More to come.

--Severin is promising to lay into the management at "WTSUCKK" on his Monday show.

--Dan Kennedy has a daughter with dwarfism and is active with Little People of America. He wrote a book about being the parent of a little person. This may have to do with a lawsuit involving a little person who worked for Starbucks....I remember Dan K used to be part of a media roundtable when Pat Whitley
had a weekday show at RKO and yes, he's been part of Beat The Press/CH 2 Greater Boston and
Don't Quote Me/Boston Phoenix.

Someon should check with Michael to see if management is pressuring to be more provocative opposite Jay. He waited for Jay to go off the air at six to make the comment as part of thats a wrap.

Eno has not posted a comment either, he's not a child, he turned 38 on Friday.

So..when do the conservatives start to be heard on NPR? :)

"All Things Considered" has a point-counterpoint segment on Fridays with a conservative (usually David Brooks whom those on the far-right disdain to call a conservative in lockstep with Rush) and almost every Saturday morning at 9:00 eastern time, "Weekend Edition/Saturday" features a political commentary previously delivered by Dan Schorr but now by a stable of chin-strokerati (Alex Beam's term) from the right and left.

If that's the case then good, but I also know awhile back an NPR show, probably Morning Edition,
had a weekly segment profiling conservative figures. 7 minutes long per week. They got protests
from their core listeners about this...bias. If you want left-leaning public radio, fine, but you pay for
it. Don't ask me to pay for it.

How about if NPR was mostly conservative and your tax dollars paid for it?
Keep in mind:

To liberals, John McCain, Scott Brown, Mitt Romney, Bill O'Reilly etc are all hardcore conservatives.
To conservatives they are all RINOs, Republicans in name only. These people would rather stay home
than vote for a "RINO", and let the Democrat win. The same probably applies on the Left, where
many are now complaining about Barack Obama being too conservative. It all depends where you stand.
(I belong to neither party.)

Media Nation posted an old Graham bit about the Starbucks case. Graham exaggerated by saying he shouldn't have to wait "20 minutes" for the little person to use a stepstool. I think he was off by about 19.5 minutes. He says sometimes people should be disqualified from certain jobs. Well, if Graham has an annoying raspy voice, shouldn't he be disqualified from hosting a show for Greater Media? Just sayin'...

He's always had four hours... he was on 10-2

If memory serves me correct, I believe he originally had a 3 hour slot and was doing his show after Imus and before J&M. I believe J&M started at 12 originally and ran to Severino's 3pm start

He had done four hours in fill ins for Severin (3-7) at various times. Graham has had different slots (probably mostly 3 hours) incl. late morning, early afternoon, pm drive, and early evening

You may recall that Jay had a national show for about 9 months, Jay Severin Has Issues, which aired at 6 pm I believe. Graham had done 3-6 (pm drive)
(A blogger who is a fan of Graham's reproduced an '07 entry he did:

>>I was glad when Severin left that time slot to pursue a syndicated show which 96.9 FMTalk picked up in the evening. When Michael Graham went on air in late 2005 I quickly became a huge fan and regular listener.
[When Severin's show tanked he went back to TKK and pm drive, and Graham moved to a diff. slot.]
