Is that still the case in in your area? Locally (as in San Diego), there is a big pow-wow in la LA that could decide the fate of the Inland Empire, San Diego and Santa Barbara. Great, traffic with funny names like LA Jo-lla, and Poway .... OH MY.

Yep, although I don't know how much of a live element there is to it. Amarillo, Lubbock and Midland (along with a bunch of other small markets) were spun off to GAP, and there is voice tracking being used within the chain. For example, at Kiss FM in Lubbock (formerly Z102), there's only one local personality during the weekday. The rest all come from other "Kiss FM's." The mornings come from Kiss FM in Austin, the middayer is from Kiss FM in Amarillo, and the nights come from Kiss FM in Dallas. Did you notice all of those stations are called "Kiss FM?" Seems to be a trend.

I know exactly what you are saying about "funny names." When I worked at Clear Channel Lubbock, we used to moan about people on voice track from other places calling it "Lub-bick."

IMHO here's what we can look forward to in San Diego. Goodbye Cindy Spicer and Sienna on KUSS, goodbye Missy on KIOZ, goodbye Frankie V on KHTS, Goodbye everyone on KGB outside of DSC. There's really not much local left to cut on XTRA Sports or KOGO. I think Haze on Star will survive because he schedules music on Star and KHTS. It is really ironic that CC is making a big "local" push with 12 minutes a day of PSA's and "local" accessibility, while at the same time is probably going to wipeout a lot of local programming to make room for out of market voice tracking and music scheduling. Don't forget, a significant portion of the "local" music initiative is only web based, and will never make it to air.

What this is coming down to is that the music programming and the localism are just there to buffer the ads.

It would seem that CC is getting into major desperation time....especially seeing this thread and how they are trying to negotiate a deal with their bond holders.

I saw this coming a long time ago.

My source in San Antonio confirmed that "something significant" is going down on Tuesday. They couldn't confirm if it will be the rumored 1000 employee layoff, or if this round would be programming-focused...but it's happening.

Would the money CC saves by doing that be more than the advertising $'s lost by local clients not being able to buy Endorsements, Live Mentions, Remote Broadcasts, Local Appearances, etc. ?

Or did CC even think about that?

If what I heard on KGB today was any indication, they might be better off faking remotes with voice tracks from some guy 1,000 mile away.

KGB was supposedly on location today (Saturday) at the OMBAC Summer Music Festival at Mission Bay and supposedly Bryan Shock was broadcasting on location: if he was there, his performance - or lack thereof - beggered the question, "Why bother?"

Honestly, they could have sent a fact sheet to someone back east and told them to record tracks to be plugged into the music today and it would have sounded a whole lot more alive than Bryan did with a dull, lackluster delivery marked by "uhs," and "ers" and lots of indications that he is not good at adlibbing more than one sentence or phrase per break, in addition to which he seemed to have little understanding of what was going on and why, with lots of statements about how he did not know or forgot some relevant detail. Combined with his monotone, it was radio at its worst.

Bob, you need to stop this pathetic reporting about good radio. Once you drink the San Antonio Tea, deprogram yourself, it's all uh and ers ... and a few ayes. Soon Lush Rimbaugh will be doing the same and other talk show hosts will follow Lush like lemmings to the financial cliff before going over the side.

You know Bob, contact the KOGO news department. They'll help you out and investigate this.

I called the KOGO news department but she had the day off.
