Gray purchases Meredith station group

This dispute between Mr Antenna (Las Vegas area company) and KVVU Fox 5 is one factor why the Gray/Meredith deal is not cleared at this time.

Meredith said Mr. Antenna Las Vegas got it all wrong when it said the broadcaster refused to sell it ad time to advertise its over-the-air antennas and that the FCC should reject an informal objection lodged by the company.

Over-the-air TV antenna marketer Mr. Antenna Las Vegas asked the FCC to block the transfer of the license of KVVU-TV Henderson to Gray Television, which is buying the station from Meredith, or alternatively condition the sale.

Mr. Antenna had cited what it claimed was a station policy under Meredith of not selling spot advertising time to the company. "From April 2019 until this year, Mr. Antenna advertised its outdoor antenna products and services on KVVU-TV," it told the commission. "In late June 2021, however, KVVU notified Mr. Antenna that effective July 1, 2021, KVVU would no longer accept advertising from vendors whose products presented a ‘cord-cutting’ alternative to cable service," the company said.

How much leverage does a company like Mr. Antenna have to block or condition the Meredith/Gray deal? It sounds like Meredith is trying to mend fences, and the deal wouldn't be sealed till later in the year anyway.

Not so much given that Mr. Antenna is a local advertiser. If it was a bigger company like Grays rivals competitors probably.

An Antenna company has a dispute with Meredith thats delaying the Gray/Meredith deal.
Oh yes, I'm sure 'Mr. Antenna' is going to hold up this deal...Not. Pretty sure the reason KVVU won't sell Mr. Antenna spots is likely something in their spot which attacks cable providers. Having an advertiser with copy that is deceptive, or attacks 70% of your bread and butter is not unreasonable to refuse doing business with Mr. Antenna.

Gray Television gets Third Rail Studios. This is a part of a move to get Gray to the new Studio City offices in Atlanta in the event they get Meredith owned stations WGCL and WPCH.

Allen Media has a deal completed to get WJRT-TV a divested Gray station as a result of the Gray/Meredith talks.

Another set of talks at play for IAC to get some of Meredith's web publishing/magazine brands such as Better Home and Gardens, InStyle, People. Note this is happening concurrently as Gray deal with Meredith TV's divisions is pending.

Barry Dillers IAC to take over Meredith's digital publishing operations if finalized.

That's for sure. Outside of CBS programming, WGCL is still smelling the exhaust of WSB, WAGA and WXIA.

True and Gray was supposed to move WGCL and WPCH-TV to the New Gray Studios in the Atlanta area. How will Gray Management will put WGCL-TV/WPCH-TV on par with its rivals is yet to be seen.

Uphill climb. WPCH has been independent since it was WJRJ back in 1967 and was an also-ran but also the so-called "channel of love" since it picked up network shows the affiliates passed up. It still is a ratings also-ran although it does have some semblance of an audience. WGCL's off-network hours simply can't compete with the established audience of the other net affiliates simply because it's on channel 46 which is a rather high channel number for a network station in a large market. It's too associated with their independent days.

What would WGCL cable channel be if the providers wanted to put it in a lower position or the CBS affiliation can simply move to Channel 17 if Gray is allowed to move CBS Programming there and WGCL can be Independent Peachtree TV. Since Gray has a contract to air CBS content in Atlanta can they just move to 17. But that may not matter anymore due to Paramount+ .

Moving WGCL to 17 isn't improbable. WPCH could be relocated to 46 or at the very least be made a WGCL subchannel. All this while retaining their RF channels, seeing as how UHF and VHF are irrelevant with virtuals. But we'll have to wait and see what Gray does once the ink dries.

Gave a second thought to WPCH being a subchannel to WGCL should the latter relocate to 17, as WPCH is Atlanta's lighthouse station for the ATSC 3.0 standard.
