Great, Talk Radio is So Much Better

Not.

I just don't understand why the jealous inside radio wannabees and has beens have hammered on the WRKO weekenders so much. Well, you've apparently gotten your wish. Live and local is all but gone from weekends. We're back to brokered time and Best Of repeats. How is this an improvement?

I heard a promo for the Best of show ... indicating it would include the best of Boston this Morning. What will we do, reminisce about the best traffic jam on the ones?

Whitley ... Gone
Diamond ... Gone
Gardening Show ... shortened by an hour
Feinberg ... Something tells me we're getting his sydicated show and not the liva & local one
Hughes ... Gone

That senior money show is almost as bad as the clean colon show. How are we better off.

Come on WRKO, you can do better by your audience than this.

Saturday evenings with Glenn Beck, huh? Great... this guy is a pure hater. Here are some quotes of his, from an article on FAIR (yes, a lefty site--source: http://www.fair.org/index.php?page=2803)

"In 2004, Beck called Michael Berg, whose son had been beheaded in Iraq, "despicable" and a "scumbag" because the elder Berg criticized George W. Bush in the wake of his son’s death (Mediamatters.org, 5/17/04)."

"On May 17, 2005, Beck fantasized about murdering anti-war filmmaker Michael Moore (Mediamatters.org, 5/18/05):
"I'm thinking about killing Michael Moore, and I'm wondering if I could kill him myself, or if I would need to hire somebody to do it. No, I think I could. I think he could be looking me in the eye, you know, and I could just be choking the life out--is this wrong?"

and here's a piece, with audio, about what he said about Katrina survivors:

They must be living off their weekday ratings/profits. WRKO has been
doing this for a couple weeks now, running reruns of Carr and
Depetro (can you say "radio rewind"? 'TKK still does that).
During the week they make a good committment to live-and-local. Only
Rush, Savage, and Noory are syndie. If you consider 5 am to 10 pm
programming only, just 3 hours are non-local (and it's only the #1
rated host nationwide...)

They should have some locally originated stuff on weekends...admittedly they had Spencer Hughes doing some stuff from _out of town_ but it was geared toward
WRKO, not a syndie feed.

I suppose they mean a reprise of some of the "issues of the day"
(to quote Mr. Lauzier) from that show.

I didn't tune in, but I wonder if they rebroadcast the Carr show from
Monday which was mostly pre-empted by Celtics? I got to hear it because
I was driving around and heard it on WEIM, but a lot of other people
didn't. At least that would be a service...airing something that got
pre-empted on the flagship

Oh is Beck on? (just checked 'RKO site: yes...) I only heard bits of him in the past and what I heard wasn't too bad, but maybe I tuned in when he wasn't off the wall...I do know he got hired by CNN Headline News recently for a nightly show.

From Beck's site (just checked): "We hate Glenn! Glenn Beck hate mail,
Glenn Beck hate mail...":

http://www.glennbeck.com/hatemail/index.shtml

Great... this guy is
> a pure hater.

Maybe he should co-host with Mike Malloy, who was invited to a Conservative
Political Action Committe conference to do his show live (mostly conservative
hosts invited, but the olive branch was extended to him) and he replied by
calling them neo-Nazis. The woman who extended the invitation, who was
Jewish and had relatived die in the Holocaust, was upset. He apologized
to her but stood by his comments. Maybe he felt Berg's dad's comments
were over the top, so he went over the top. Being controversial = ratings,
be it on conservatalk or libtalk. And we have the right to debate him
on his views, or tune him out if need be.

I don't know if he was just saying that outright, or was he comparing it
to comments by the likes of Randi Rhodes, arguing that the President
should be killed--i.e., was he being ironic ("what if I said let's
kill Michael Moore, how would that be"?)--but regardless, that's also
over the line of course. (Some conservatives might actually hold high
regard for Moore in one respect: his movie may have enraged their base enough to get out and vote. Fahrenheit 11/2/04, Good job Mikey!...)

But again, just on weekends when the talk audience is much smaller. But they
still should have more local content on weekends...and actually they do have
stuff like Pundit Review, Gardening Show, etc.<P ID="signature">______________

Real talk radio is not one sided Re: Great, Talk Radio is So Much Better

There is no interaction with the audience. One either obeys what
the talk show host wants (O'Reilly demanding of a caller that the
Democrats took money from Abramoff, and slamming the phone on her before
she could give evidence to the contrary) - it is funny to hear Al Franken
play that clip, but indicative of what you can expect from RKO type stations
---even when they are "live and local."

Do you think Howie Carr wants an opposing point of view re: Whitey Bulger?
Carr is the "authority", and getting past a screener is improbable - with the 7 second delay they probably have, and the mute button, it is one-sided talk radio

Ed Schultz lets opposing points of view on - but that's on a toaster station

RKO doesn't care to spend money on Jay Diamond or other compelling hosts

Right on! And it's playing in my head right now...
(big voice) "Ladies and Gentlemen - Chuck 'Chuckles' Knapp"
(jingle) Sixty-Eight - W-R-K-O
(record) Brown Eyed Girl by Van Morrison
Ah, those "Now" memories just keep on comin'
(from the second floor of the Hotel St George in Kenmore Square)
We can all meet for a 'Gansette at K-K-K-Katy's across the square.
Who knows maybe Yaz and Rico will stroll in after practice at Fenway.

Hey Lex,

Hearing RKO talk about their contributions to music - playing DUKE & THE DRIVERS (instead of Howie interviewing Duke & The Drivers), editing the
album version of "Rock & Roll Hoochie Coo" and breaking the hit,
Donna Summer live from the Wang Center - full broadcast - would be more
engaging than the dreck on the radio at this very moment,2:46 on a Saturday
afternoon.

Yoko Ono album sides are more inviting than John DePetro reruns

Re: Real talk radio is not one sided Re: Great, Talk Radio is So Much Better

... Stephanie Miller and Sam Seder from the Majority Report also allow opposing views. Al Franken has on guests from conservative think tanks (Brookings Institute, for one).

RKO really knows how to drive listeners away, can't believe the program changes over the last couple of weeks, now we've got Todd Feinberg on 24/7 practically, senior finance on Sunday morning and now a rehab program on Sunday afternoon, what demographic are they trying to capture? If it ain't broke, DON'T FIX IT, leave well enough alone, RKO is losing listeners left and right, the morning show is just unfathomable, feinberg on 7 days/nites a week, celtics on pre-empting Howie, who is in charge here and why????? Get it together people and stop screwing things up.

Just like the movies

> I just don't understand why the jealous inside radio
> wannabees and has beens have hammered on the WRKO weekenders

Reminds me of the movie Major League, where the broad wants to get rid of the team so she starts making awful management decisions on purpose. Somehow there won't be a happy ending for WRKO, though.

Re: Real talk radio is not one sided Re: Great, Talk Radio is So Much Better

> There is no interaction with the audience.

There should be on most shows. People like Hannity and Ingraham let those
with opposing viewpoints on--they might yell at them after awhile, or like
Hannity play that "get off the phone you big dope" Mark Levin tape,
but if only those who agreed with hosts got on, shows would be boring.
Of course one thing talk hosts rarely do is talk with the listener
for more than a couple minutes--you gotta get what you want to say on
and MAYBE they'll let you back on to offer more of your views.

> Ed Schultz lets opposing points of view on - but that's on

"OK, the screen says I got a big lib calling in. What do you have to say,
Mr. Liberal? We'll Hannitize you."--Sean Hannity

If they felt he could get good ratings they'd spend the money and
put him on weekdays. btw big lib Mike Webb, last seen trying to
scam an insurance company, is available these days, but maybe
Entercom wants to avoid him (see following link; he later was
let go by KIRO)_

Sad State of Affairs For WRKO. Sounds Like Entercom is Ready To Sell

When you start dumping "The Best Of"[ an oxyMORON at best] on the weekends instead of paying real talent it kind of sounds like Entercom is getting ready to dump WRKO. I know you think that is impossible with WTKK tanking but that seems like the direction RKO is going.

Good for them...and Ingraham, Hannity, Carr, Severin...

Try the most popular all-talk station in town (12 +), though if they're
doing senior finance maybe they're going for that 65-to-death-demo,
as Howie once put it :) (Not that that's bad. And now this
message from Geritol. :) )

If it ain't

LOL! Michael Moore is thin! Grits ain't groceries, eggs ain't
poultry, and Mona Lisa was a man!

celtics on

They promise it will never happen again. Right up there with the
legislature promising the seatbelt law will never be primary
enforcement. Believe that and I have a bridge in Brooklyn I'd like to sell ya.

don't get me started on the seatbelt thing, or the surcharges for said seatbelt thingy, the tollbooths which were supposed to come down eons ago, etc. etc. etc!!!!!!!

maybe selling a bunch of them to finance an ABC purchase, or a swap with other parties included??

The censored 45 version too, where the line "making love in the green grass" was edited out, and replaced by "laughin' and a'runnin', baby..." from earlier in the song.

Is this the "Bash WRKO" board now?

Wow, you guys must really love WRKO very much to always be giving them publicity. Hey, maybe you guys should form an "I hate WRKO" group and go proteting outside the studio. I mean, you're all so mobilized in here, why not take it out side, hm?
