So what will happen to that station? Air America will go off the air which may also affect Green 960's schedule. Are they going to change formats or does Clear Channel have an idea?

Looking at KKGN's schedule on its website (http://www.green960.com/pages/lineup.html), AAR programs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_America_Radio#Weekday_programs) comprised more of their weekend programming (7 shows, by my count) than weekdays (2 hours of Jack Rice plus 1 hour of Rachel Maddow's MSNBC rebroadcast in overnights). So it looks like the weekday schedule (with the exception of 12 mid - 3 a.m.) remains intact, while John Scott will need to fill about 16 hours in Green 960's weekend schedule after this weekend.

I have a hunch there will be a lot more Karel coming...

Karel, Peter B., Angie, Christine, Stacy Taylor, the list is ENDLESS due to inappropriate firings, mismanagement, and other very significant problems at multiple stations such as KGO, KKGN, KRXA.

Clear Channel could triple its 960 ratings with Peter B and Karel on. In fact, just dump Dial Global. Hartmann, Schultz, and Miller are old school Democrats, constantly bashing the Republicans.

Hartmann going after the somewhat more Liberal-leaning Cato Institute guests like Randall O'Toole is getting ridiculous. What does Thom do? Just search the Cato web site and sign up all their Senior Research Fellows to debate at the same time each week? Only to shout them down week after week? Watching Thom on U-Tube with his hair job, face job, smiling through his teeth at these guys is silly and ridiculous. What's he smokin' up there in Oregon?

Peter B. Collins would never be so disrespectful when conducting a show. Neither would Karel, for the most part! Both are very gracious with their guests, great interviewers who don't confront their guests with bitterness. Peter B. is the kindest Liberal host in the world w/ the best sense of humor. We need more hosts like Peter B.

Thom Hartmann Attacks Liberal / Libertarian Randal O'Toole of Oregon:

Oh, and then what Thom ALSO Does is after the commercial break, he ATTACKS his guests when they have NO OPPORTUNITY TO DEFEND THEMSELVES! He'll take callers for the entire hour. I've never seen such poor formatics after interviewing a guest.

My impression is that KKGN will continue to sell the time to hosts or barter it rather than actually pay hosts. Most top-tier hosts available locally probably aren't going to go that route. They'd probably rather wait for fill-in jobs or paying gigs.

Buying time and bartering isn't necessarily the dead end we think it is. For instance, the David Letterman and Craig Ferguson TV shows are produced by Letterman's company, which in turn buys time on CBS to present them.

er... WHAT?? So Letterman pays CBS to be on TV every night? Nice deal for CBS... if it were true. Think you've got that backwards. CBS may pay WorldWide Pants rather than paying Dave and Craig directly, but WWP dos not pay CBS for airtime. that would make both shows infomercials, no? ;)

I'd say that Clear Channel should bring back the old KABL Adult Standards format.

I think that a standards format would be appropriate in many markets, not just the Bay area. The only thing is taht should such a format ever be resurrected, they should also add tunes my what I'll call "modern crooners" (i.e. Harry Connick Jr, Michael Buble, Diana Krall) and even throw in some world music by artists such as Celtic Woman and Secret Garden and some lighter jazz, both traditional as well as modern styles as well.

Sounds good - that would be a format I would listen to frequently. The problem is - even though I'm an old fogey that grew up with music on the AM band, I like high fidelity, and I don't like music on AM. That's why I rarely tuned in KABL's adult standards format a decade ago, and the same applies now.

Oh thank you for that! That was the best laugh I have had in a long time! Karel is a good interviewer. What a hoot! Thanks, i needed that!

I know bossradio I enjoy listening to KABL on the internet and so does my wife who is 31 she can even sing along to some of the songs.
