I have an idea for WMKS: Keep the name, calls, and logo the same, but switch to a rhythmic AC format like on the new 93.9 in Raleigh. That Kiss sounds more like Kiss than what's playing on WMKS...

WMKS needs to do something. That station is going nowhere. I agree a rhythmic "Movin" format would make more sense with those calls. I'm really curious to see how The Walf does. Will they make any inroads on WTQR. The new Majic will only have been on the air a month or less, so shouldn't see any changes there. They'll have to wait on another book to get any ratings.

I hope the Wolf loses big. I want to see Majic succeed, and WIST as well.

I wish WIST's old format could work somewhere in the area.

AllAcess has the numbers.

QMG passes TQR
ZTK passes SJS by almost a point(!)

They also need to do something with that crappy signal that is so weak the only way they reach here is via the online stream...

SJS dropped out of the top ten for the first time in at least 20 years! I know Mr. H must be proud!

Not gonna happen....What WILL die a slow miserable death is Commercial Radio.

I sure would like to hear from AAALLLLLLLLL the geniuses about that ZTK format change NOW....

Really, now...I like ZTK and want them to succeed, but it's only one book...

My take on the radio ratings in the triad is that WTQR is not the strong country
outlet it once was, and makes me wonder if WPAW("The Wolf")could bring the
first serious competition to them, and i was surprised to see the numbers for
WSJS down, with Curtis Media prepared to take over in a few weeks, will we
see some adjustments with WZTK-FM and WMFR broadcasting the same
format?, i'm aware these three stations have different programming, but
what does Don Curtis plan to do?, Stay Tuned...

Oh, no, trust me, it'll happen. There's no way WMKS can survive, at least not in it's current form (and Clear Channel shows no signs of willingness to change it). It will die a slow and miserable death.

Trust me. I was right about The Beat, I'll be right about this one. You watch.

I would love to know the CUME numbers for WSJS and WZTK - and how much sharing there is between them. ZTK has a much better story to tell advertisers now. Even if it is one book! Would love to see some dayparts, too.

It probably wouln't help much on basic ratings buys, but if you add their Raleigh share it can make a significant difference in some of the Curtis Media combo buys!

Should be no surprise about the SJS decline. The station is not what it used to be! And that is sad.

I couldn't believe The Wolf did so well. And Majic didn't improve at all. Surely there was enough of the ratings period left to make some impact! But in fact, Majic got nothing at all in Charlotte, which hasn't had true oldies since 2004!

Radio and Records, which is where is saw the numbers, called Majic a classic hits station. Not true! It's oldies! The format is evolving, just like standards.

Yeah, it looked to me like what was lost from WPAW (formerly Oldies), went directly to Majic. But we have to remember that this book is a AC biased book anyways with Christmas music. Second, there was A LOT of sampling going on for country listeners. Winter and Spring books will tell the true story.

People's listening HABITS don't change overnight, even with tons of
outside marketing.

Waaay to early to judge the NEW stations performances.

WOLF's numbers probably include some Oldies 93 listeners.
Oldies FANS probably aren't even aware of Magic.

You're gving the listeners too much credit for media awareness.

I do believe WZTK is beginning to take hold. It takes at least 18 months
in adult formats.

18 months? ZTK's been on since July 2004. It's been almost 3 YEARS.

A couple of points:

1) You have got to give Curtis credit for sticking with WZTK. It is a good station with some signal issues. The merger with WSJS will help the sales effort. Combo selling will work for them both with the right leadership. Three years is not a long time to overtake a heritage NT station.

2) Majic was too late in format to make much of a difference. Book ended December 14th, I believe. They had no promotion and it just takes people a while to find it on its own. They should do better in the Winter Book.

3) Wolf's challenge is to keep 'em! Any format change can see a spike in the first book. Historically, stations that have challenged WTQR had had spikes - a good book or two - but couldn't sustain it in the long run. This may be a different situation. Entercom is a better operator than any others who have tried. WHSL was making some moves when CC bought them and the effort was not sustained.
