Greensboro

Is there any live talent on the air in GSO? WTQR seems to be Q104 and sucking wind! Seem to remember when 94.1 tried country back in the day and was known as Q94. Back in the day there were some very competitive stations in Winston and Greensboro and now it just seems to be "some" radio staions on the air. How time flies.

As far as I know, the only live/local jock on WVBZ is their morning guy, Matt Pencola. WMKS evening guy Nick D is live and local as well, as for the rest of CC-GSO, I have no clue.

The number of live, local talent at Clear Channel Greensboro is fast dwindling. Here's who they have:

WTQR: Jeff Roper - Mornings, Angie Ward - Midday

WVBZ: Matt Pencola - Mornings

WMKS: Jo Jo - Midday, Nick D - Nights

WMAG: Lora Songster - Mornings

WPTI: Pamela Furr - News in the mornings

For those keeping count, that's 5 stations, 7 local on-air talents. So sad.

Pamela Furr is back? I was wondering who they were going to have replace TJ Cutini, surprised they picked her (nothing against her, she's a great lady), just a surprising call.

That is a sad state for radio in the Greensboro market. If there is a major news happening in the market they may not know about it for hours! Sad day for radio my friends. Is there not an on air live person at WMAG in mornings? Do know that Maxx McCann and Steve Finnigan are on the air live in Lexington.

She doesn't sound that bad doing the news....As a host, clearly, was not that good.

What does the TRIAD think of KC & Carmen.......? I think it's total BS. The Triangle, Triad simulcast sucks. ALA The Triad Sports Network.

There are other stations that aren't owned by Clear Channel that have people on the air.

Although they are considered both a Triad and Triangle station because of their tower placement, FM Talk 101.1 has live staff on hand 24-7. They break into regular programming with news when it is warranted. Live morning (Brad & Britt) and live afternoon show (Allan Handelman). On top of that they carry Live news breaks after ABC News at the top and bottom of the hour. They also have thier meteorologist live whenever there's the possiblity or when there is bad weather. My hat is off to Curtis Media Group for providing this when others do not.

Great to know we have some live folks on the radio, but gotta thing ....... how many stations are in the Triad and how many have live people? Not like it use to be for sure.

You've got that right! There are many radio companies in the Triad (that I know of) where after 6-7 pm the lights are on but nobody's home! A sad state indeed. A hard drive can't alert you to breaking news, at least not yet.

Talked to a friend there and he says Allan does his show from his home studio in Charlotte 3 days a week, in Burlington 2 days a week, but board ops and call screeners are in Burlington every day.

Come on, you guys, are acting like this is a new thing!!!!! ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) Ev ery FM used to be reel to reels and maybe a local cut in for weather once an hour that was recorded too!!! William B Williams was on the air everywhere!!!! :D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Plus, it's all cyclical. that means that it will change again. Let it play out like we did when we said nobody wants to hear music on FM because it's "too clear" and "fatiguing"!!! ;D ;D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

That was before the age of technology.....

Nobody wants to listen to AM Radio anymore, period. Especially music. I hear some you White Heads talking about getting an oldies station on AM and stuff...it baffling.

Things played out differently before the internet. In the 60's or 70's people couldn't program their own customized mp3 player, plug it into their car and program their own music & playlists. And the art of being a DJ is OVER. It's vaudeville. DJ's used to be able to be edgy and funny, they now can't do ANYTHING. It's watered down crap covered with commercials and repeated play lists.

Local news and talk is the last hope for radio. But companies don't want to hire local people and give it a chance for a while to see if it actually works.

Oldies is one thing that stands a chance on AM. The whitehairs still listen. There's an AM oldies station here with good programming but horrid sound quality and my father just loves it... It grates on my ears. Kix 850 grates on my ears but he likes it too.

I know you guys are talking commercial radio, but I would imagine that WFDD has a live, local host for "Morning Edition" and "All Things Considered". I don't know about mid-day. Eventhough, WUNC is beating the pants off of them in their own backyard, I would think they have at least two local, live hosts. Also, probably there is a newsperson...or, at least, a local news reader. Just taking a guess. When I want NPR, I listen to WUNC. I haven't listened to FDD online in quite some time.

They have a new guy "Steve Bittle" I think is his name. He has very good intonation and a good voice, he stumbles once in a while but I think that could be expected when you're "live". ;D ;D

What do you mean clearly she was not that good? Have you ever heard her do a show by herself? She's pretty damn good. I've listened to her a lot when she's been on at night on WBT in Charlotte. Clearly the problem was Bill Flynn.

As for KC & Carmen. They're okay I guess but the audio gets sloppy and the topics can get silly. KC seems to get pissed at Carmen too much but then when she's not there, he is the most boring I've ever heard.

Carmen is too much of a B. They almost seem to fight on-air because of it, to the point that at times it's awkward to listen to.

Other than that it's not a bad show.
