Announced today. This is how it appeared in Radio Ink. http://www.radioink.com/Article.asp?id=2533556&spid=24698

A press release just sent to Radio Ink states that Greg Kihn, the Classic Rock Radio morning man in the San Francisco Bay Area and KFOX FM have parted ways as of September 14. Mr. Kihn just celebrated his 16th Anniversary with KFOX FM, which is believed to be the longest reigning radio industry tenure for a morning man with a single station west of the Mississippi. Regarding radio, Kihn states, “I am unemployed, along with a large percentage of my fellow Americans, but I am an optimist. I believe for every door that closes others open. Surely, another broadcast studio door will open and I’ll be back on the air soon doing what I love to do most; entertaining my loyal fans.”

WASSUP!!!!! Maybe The JV Show should come in and do mornings at KFOX! Very talented :)

Is this the same Greg Kihn that had "The Breakup Song" back in the early 80's?

Same one.

I'm not much a fan of morning shows, but I've always liked Greg Kihn. He brought lots of interesting stuff to the mornings with his various rock contacts, his experiences on the road as a touring rock star, and his self-effacing personality.

Having a talented morning personality available in the Bay Area. Do other Morning people worry they will/can easily be replaced?

A huge loss

Greg is one of my all time favorite DJ's. I actually prefer to hear him talk rather than listen to the music played during his show. I always loved his stories and his interviews.

By age (mine), here's my life time favorite DJ's (different from talk show hosts)
Under 15: Dr Don Rose
16-29: Dennis Erectus
36-50: Greg Kihn
I think Greg would be a great talk show host. Talking about current events KGO style.

I posted that already either here or in another radio forum (SF Bay area local stuff) that's been ruined by trolls.
But with today's news, I thought I'd say it again.

I was usually working during his show. Didn't get to hear it as much as I would have liked.

Anybodys job is in "Jeopardy" with Entercom running the station. No pun intended ;D

This morning (during the KFOG 30th anniv bash) Annalisa announced she's leaving that station effective immediately. Renee takes over middays (and 10@10, but we'll be getting 2 weeks of "vintage" Dave Morey 10@10s as a 30th anniversary bonus, apparently).

So the unconfirmed rumor is that Annlisa is taking over mornings at KUFX.

An opening at KFOG for Greg Kihn?

I'm sure the Dickey Bros would love his right-wing politics but I suspect he'd be too expensive. And they certainly aren't about to change morning shows for the 3rd time in 4 months ;)

Big Rick Stuart just announced the following on his Facebook page:

Beginning September 24, KFOX’s all-star, rock expert lineup will feature:
· 5am – 9am – Annalisa
· 9am – 12pm – KFOX Commercial-Free Music Block
· 12pm – 3pm – Laurie Roberts
· 3pm to 7pm – Big Rick Stuart
· 7pm – midnight – Webster

KFOX’s expanded music library brings a broader classic rock sound to the KFOX audience and will better reflect the Bay Area’s passion for a wider range of rock music. Along with the station’s core artists of Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, and The Beatles, KFOX‘s playlist will now include artists from Pearl Jam to Nirvana to Bob Marley to Stevie Wonder.

“I'm looking forward being part of the new sound of KFOX in San Francisco and San Jose,” said Annalisa. “I can’t wait to start and create more great radio together with the Bay Area audience: passionate listeners who still believe in the music... and the timeless and unique community connection of a great local radio station.”

KFOX Program Director Garner Goin commented on the moves, “Annalisa has been a radio icon in the Bay Area for over 16 years and she consistently had the highest rated show on KFOG. Her enthusiasm, passion, and music knowledge will be a refreshing choice for morning drive in the Bay Area. We are equally excited about improving the listening experience for our audience, from our larger music library to a dedicated commercial-free music block every day.”

Adding No Doubt and America sure broadens the playlist. I am pleased they are going commercial free 9AM-Noon but it sure sounds like a desperate move. With no commercials how do they make money even with improved ratings in the commercial free show?

Entercom has been using the 9a-12n commercial free/jock-free approach on KMTT in Seattle but it hasn't produced an appreciable ratings uptick. However you slice it, that's a lot of inventory disappearing.

Because KUFX's PD, Garner Goin is from Denver, it's more likely the New Sound of KFOX is patterned after Entercom's KQMT, The Mountain in Denver who also does a 9A-12N commercial free block. They are performing very well in the Denver Boulder PPM.

Not so...Don Bleu was on KIOI for 22 years before moving to KOSF in January. The station did change positioning from K-101 to Star 101.3 around 2000, but he was on that single station through all of its changes (and something like 20 Program Directors!).
