Spittle had a classic management blunder. In trying to "get the airplane on the ground", he lied to his employees, which you never, ever do. Tell them you can't say what direction, tell them things are up in the air, but you never lie just because you don't have the spine to look someone in the eye, tell them the truth, or tell them you can't say anything.
The reason you never lie to your employees (no matter what industry)...even if you're about to fire them...is word will spread to your remaining employees that you're a lying two-faced weasel, and you will lose the ONE thing you will need from your employees to steer the ship....respect.
You don't get respect from your employees screaming ultimatums like a 16 year old schoolgirl. You get it by making tough decisions, and communicating those tough decisions.
Also, pulling two spares like Ben and Skin in to "save the format", is just laughable.
Couldn't agree more. You can't run a business by trying to be everyone's friend.
