Does anybody else think this is a stunt till the X-Mas rolls on the day after Thanksgiving?
ummmmmm Why spend out the wazooo on Imaging for a stunt that will last 6 weeks to roll out xmas
If they put on Christmas it means the rhythmic AC format didn't take and something else will be coming in the new year.

It'll be interesting to see from where it pulls listeners--obviously both Q100 (which will be heavily affected) and Star, and B98.5 and maybe Beat. May also pull some listeners from True Oldies, depending on how old the playlist skews once it settles down. Probably won't pull any urban listeners--it's too white bread, like the Beat.

What will also be interesting is to see how Star and Q100 and Beat react to reposition. Will ATL finally get a true CHR/M? Or will one of those try to attack Groove head-on?

I think you're too quickly making the assumption that Groove will pull enough listeners from any of those stations for them to react and reposition. Yes, a Beat listener may hear Nelly or Chris Brown and stop and listen, then when they go into the Bee Gees, that listener is going right back to the Beat. Equally, a Star or Q listener may hear Lady Gaga and stop and listen, but when the next song is completely off the CHR map, that listener will likely bail as well.

I just can't see this format doing well as far as TSL goes unless you're someone who loves dance music, and I don't know if there's enough of those people in Atlanta to substantiate the Groove. Time will tell...

In the same vein, Patron may also suffer now that their format and Viva's have reportedly been merged. Its Anglo equivalent would be uniting Q's music and artists with the Bull, or Star's with Kicks. Mana or Alejandro Sanz fans may stop on 105.3 when one of those artists play, but will they stick around when the next sound they hear is the loud brass of Montez de Durango or the accordions of los Tigres del Norte? Smart money is on no.

I AGREE. I CAN'T SEE THIS STATION DOING WELL HERE. IT WOULD'VE BEEN BETTER TO JUST GO TOP 40. CLEAR CHANNEL IS LAUNCHING RYTHMIC ACs ALL OVER ALL OF A SUDDEN I SEE.

I love it!! Finally another station to listen to besides 15 minutes of news, traffic and weather on WSB and True Oldies 106.7. Will definitely be listening at work all day today.

FYI: The WGRV call letters belong to a low-power station in Melbourne, FL.

Clear Channel has Rhythmic A/C - 103.5 KTU in New York and they've been quite successful with it and have been rolling out modified versions of that format in other markets... by using the template, but tweaking the music and image, each station then sounds a little more unique to the each market, rather than the here is your songs, liners, and logos in a box like Movin did...

Yeah!! Found it this morning when someone was lamenting VIVA's demise on Q100. I've been listening. Loving it so far. Perhaps Atlanta will have a true "dance" channel now.

I kind of like it so far...it's refreshing and fun. Hopefully it does well.

Groove 105.7 is kind of like a 24-hour a day wedding reception (minus the drunk uncle hitting on bridesmaids).

I am amazed at how most of you will "bitch" about anything. This is truly a different sound that Atlanta needs. My God, Macon has better stations than Atlanta. At least this is something new and leaning toward "dance". The Beat is pathetic Ghetto, Star 94 is a mess, Q100 is a mess, they would NEVER play some of the songs I have heard on the Groove. Give it a chance. Eveyone here so critical of everything. BITCH BITCH BITCH

Well I say where can you hear the remixed dance version of Un-break My Heart by Toni Braxton and then the disco classic September by Earth Wind and Fire! Keep on Groovin!!!!! :)

Exactly my point, the answer would be not here, until now.

WOW! I'm hearing songs I haven't heard on Atlanta radio in a long time and others I've never heard on the radio here. I love the 70's disco/dance, the pop/dance remixes and everything in between. Atlanta has needed a dance leaning station like this for a long time.

I'm listening to the new station, and I think WAGV sounds like the good calls for Groove 105-7. This music takes me way back to Old School. I wish Houston would have this station on the FM Dial.

Will Groove get the 12-25 listeners from Q and Star, and maybe the Beat? Probably not. What they WILL get are some of the older 94/Q listeners--the 25-54s--that would like an older-skewing station but find B98.5 too sedate and Kiss too urban, and want a different (and more current) music mix than True Oldies (which, like most oldies stations, avoids too much disco). This may be the shove that either Star or Q (probably not both) need to give up on their hot AC dreams, and put both feet in the CHR/M camp. Beat would likely stay CHR/R and skew younger/more current.

This is all my hypothesizing, of course.

What CC has done is created an AC station that, instead of stealing listeners from the soft end of B98.5 with a redux of Peach/Lite, has gone for the other, "harder" end that will also pick up ill-fitting listeners from ATL's CHR stations.

One of the biggest complaints about the XM-Sirius merger was the demise of XM's Chrome, the disco channel. They did eventually replace it with something else--a generic dance station with a wider playlist than disco.

FWIW, here are my presets for now: Dave, River, Rock100.5, Majic 102.9, Groove, and True Oldies. Groove replaced B98.5 (it was either that or Dave), since B98.5's playlist started trending so recent with less soft AOR.

The station sounds good; it is refreshing to hear an upbeat station in the ATL.

Does anyone have a clip or an mp3 of the signon? Would love to hear how they switched.

BTW, here is the signal coverage of 105.7: http://www.radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?call=WWVA&service=FM&status=L&hours=U

It is a huge signal, they are on Sweat Mountain, and I have carried them further than this. Plus the audio sounds great, one of the better sounding in Atlanta.

In Miami, we have a very similar station to Groove. CC launched after they flipped our longtime Smooth Jazz outlet Love 94 on christmas day last year. It is called "93.9MIA. So far, the ratings are pretty strong, and it seems to work here in Miami. Hope this new station works in Atlanta for you all there. The music mix on 93.9MIA is pretty great. What is great with CC's rhythmic AC's is that they are not repetitive like most CHR's are. Listen to their stream on their site www.939MIA.com. Great station.

My guess is it will do ok. I can see my wife listening to it. Late 30's so she should match the target good. She does listen to the Beat and Q100 and I see her adding this to her mix of station hopping.

The big question? How does this affect Q100? Hopefully for the good. I would like to see them tweak their music a little bit more towards Rhythmic. Drop the Rob Thomas and drop it now. It really is a joke. Pick up the music after 6:00 also.

Well I'm in my late 40's and a huge fan of all things rhythmic and dance. If they keep this great mix of music up now, Q100 has lost a long time since the beginning loyal listener!
