Groove 105.7

I applaud CC for actually trying something DIFFERENT!

Hard to say if this format will work long-term, but it definitely fills a void and should appeal to females and Atlanta's relatively large gay population.

Considering the last time Clear Channel flipped a station to the "Groove" format, it was for the sole purpose of creating another affiliate carrying "Wake Up with Whoopi"!

I am frankly insulted by that remark. I am not gay and I am male, but I love this format, and even if I was gay, so what. I think you will be surprised how well this format will do. I mean look at all of the other shi88y stations this town has. I like the jingles they do, it is a HOT station that could do alot of damage to others, I hope it does, even though it is a CC station.

Didn't mean to offend you or anybody and I wasn't trying to make light of the format. My point is that Atlanta's gay population is greatly under served and I believe this station may do VERY well in this demographic. Last thing this market needs is another cookie-cutter duplicated format. I'm with you and I think CC is doing a smart thing (for once) with this format.

Well as a gay man, I was not the least bit offended. ;-) And, there is definitely a market for this type of radio station in Atlanta.
 
I didn't blame Brent for going off, and since the mainstream automatically assumes gays only listen to dance misic really doesnt help this stereotype of what they gave dance music. I am a bit surprised this format came to Atlanta since the market has a majority of urban/urban lean stations. So far, this station sounds good while listening via radiotime. I wouldn't imagine CC doing something right for once, but this day has come.
 
I like disco and I am not ashamed to admit it. Maybe it's a station that both my daughter and I can enjoy. At least until Rick James comes on and I have to change the station so I don't have to explain what a "Superfreak" is.
 
I might add that I had to go to Perry, Ga which is about 30 miles south of Macon and I could still hear it...Impressive.

I hope they add some Friday and Saturday night mixshows once they get established. Some up to date remixes wouldn't hurt neither. Im still sampling, but 105.7 looses me when I hear 50 Cent's "In The Club" followed by Madonna's "In The Groove."

I've been hearing a lot, mainly hear, on how well rhythmic/dance/Urban stations seem to be doing here in Atlanta and it has me wondering how well a station formatted much like BBC Radio1 would do here. I was thinking about this the other day.

For example, dance music is HUGE on Radio1. Friday nights from about 4pm till maybe 6am Saturday morning is all dance/electronic styled music broken up into several different shows focusing in one direction or another...one direction might be the latest club dance music that's being played...another might be classic club tracks. But it's varied. I thought, at one point, one of the urban stations had a friday night 'jam' where played tracks back to back...maybe a voice track over the music promoting the sponsor or something..would have been a few years back, though. Either way, I wonder if there's a market for it...if it could be done right, that is.

Granted, Radio1 is pretty broad in their play list which has to do mainly with the fact that they're essentially a very very large public broadcast organization..thus they can get away with 2 hour long continuous music. Our equivalent of that would be college or public radio, I guess..but public radio seems to be more focused on content/news/talk rather than music...even though music is played. Not really a frequent listener of NPR, I'm afraid...at least not locally.

anyway...just curious

I understand it can't stay ad free forever, and I'm OK with that, but let's keep the groove going with no talk, or, if they have to talk, get someone cool who knows the format and what the hell they are doing. Too bad Yvonne Monet has a job because she'd be great on this station.

I will tell you one thing. I have been promoting this station around the world via facebook, and people from England to Australia love it. Hey, CC you need to pay me, HA HA, for the glory I have given you..It is a hit worldwide. One girl in London said "that it beats all of the stations in the UK"...
 
Well, so far I like it. Very much like 103.5 KTU, I think this might actually work. I am probably not in the target demo (white hetero male, 34) but I like the variety and upbeat sound. Certainly a much wider spectrum than Stale 94 and Boring 98.5...I'd like a little more urban in the mix but hey, this is the most life Atlanta radio has had in a long time. Let's give it a chance, I think it might do well.
 
Ok, OK! ;D As much as I wanted this station to be a PURE CHR/pop station...(that plays everything from Taylor Swift to Eminem), I do have to say that 105.7 "The Groove".....FOR NOW, is pretty refreshing. FIANALLY in Atlanta, we can hear, CASCADA, DAVID GUETTA, KIM SOZZI, etc! But, I have just a few requests:

1) LAY OFF (a little) ON THE DISCO! There's no need to play music from as much as FOURTY YEARS AGO!![/b]

2) Increase the wattage so that the music can be in (((STEREO)))

3) LAY OFF (a little) ON THE DISCO!

4) LAY OFF (a little) ON THE DISCO!

5) LAY OFF (a little) ON THE DISCO!

....(okay you get the idea)
