Groove 105.7

Ok, OK! ;D As much as I wanted this station to be a PURE CHR/pop station...(that plays everything from Taylor Swift to Eminem), I do have to say that 105.7 "The Groove".....FOR NOW, is pretty refreshing. FIANALLY in Atlanta, we can hear, CASCADA, DAVID GUETTA, KIM SOZZI, etc! But, I have just a few requests:

1) LAY OFF (a little) ON THE DISCO! There's no need to play music from as much as FOURTY YEARS AGO!![/b]

2) Increase the wattage so that the music can be in (((STEREO)))

3) LAY OFF (a little) ON THE DISCO!

4) LAY OFF (a little) ON THE DISCO!

5) LAY OFF (a little) ON THE DISCO!

....(okay you get the idea)

peace.

NO, I want more disco....

I've compared the playlist on yes.com for both WKTU and Groove 105.7 and they are really nothing alike. KTU certainly plays more currents and true top-40 dance. There is barely a "disco" song in their rotation. In the more than four hours that I viewed Groove's playlist I did not see Cascada, Kim Sozzi or David Guetta. I am not saying they were not played, just that I did not see them. And even when Groove adds DJ's I guarantee they will still be missing the "personality" of KTU.

BTW, if you want to hear what I think a real stateside dance station is supposed to sound like go to www.pulse87.com. Great dance music, great liners- "always a beat ahead, never a BEAT-OFF!" and a great dj line-up.

No, you know that can't be done, because the haters will say it's a failure because it's a "danz stayshun" ;D

Reminds me of the old Marietta Toyota commercial from the late 80s where they had a tent sale at White Water while it was closed for the winter. They were using that "good giggly wiggly" high-pitched VO guy. They wanted to talk about their big sale, and how it was a "tidal wave of savings at White Water", and of course plug their location near the Big Chicken. So, they said that this sale was "big enough to choke the Chicken!!!"

That reminds me... has Tony Santiago chimed in on this thread yet?

I agree keep the disco but I'd also like to hear more current dance added. When it comes to disco I notice that I haven't heard anything from the Village People yet which is a surprise. I've only heard one song from KC & the Sunshine Band (Get Down Tonight). Why haven't I heard "Shake Your Booty" or anything from Ace of Base like "Beautiful Life"? I've heard Cascada but no 4 Strings. I love this format and there is so much more that could be added to the playlist that I haven't heard yet.

Totally agree please keep the disco. Of course, I am a 47 year old man who still loves it. So far I've hear the BeeGees, Andy Gibb, KC & The Sunshine Band, Anita Ward, Sister Sledge, and Donna Summer. Now if they would just play Born to Be Alive by Patrick Hernandez I'll be happy. :) Looking forward to hearing more. They seem to be adding more songs to the playlist as the 10,000 songs continues.

Now they just need to keep it up when they go live!! And, please don't try to compete with the Beat and V103.

They have.

Hello it is three days old and everyone is already deciphering which group are and nare not being played. They are going to go as popular and broad as they can initially to gain listeners.

Indeed, like most new stations, it will be kind of tight so you get the biggest Abba song or biggest Bee Gees song. It'll be interesting to see how deep they go once the station establishes itself...

Well, I love it....Just don't want them to get to repetitive, When I hear Miley Cyrus, I turn it down though.

Me too not to mention no talent Spears!!

I have to say that this is one of those stations that is fun to listen to even if you DON'T like every song. True Oldies might be the only other one.

I like the new format but I thought the Rhythmic AC format bombed in every city they tried it in except Seattle? Why are they testing out such an unsuccessful format?

The original "Movin" format did kind of tank, but since the introduction of the PPM ratings, rhythmic AC has been doing very well. As a result, Clear Channel specifically, seems to be a big believer in the format recently. They've rolled out 5 or 6 new Rhythmic AC stations in the last few months. Now they have a pretty big roster of stations in the format (WKTU "103-5 KTU" New York, WISX "My 106.1" Philadelphia, WMIA "93-9 MIA" Miami, KSYU "the New 95-1" Albuquerque, WZJZ "Z100" Ft. Myers, KISQ "98-1 Kiss" San Francisco, WKSL "93.9 Kiss FM" Raleigh, KPLV "93-1 The Party" Las Vegas, and now WWVA "105-7 The Groove" Atlanta).

Clear Channel's rhythmic AC formats tend to be more pop/dance based than the original Movin' stations that seemed to play a lot of urban and old school hip hop. And while the old diary system wasn't that kind to rhythmic AC's, under the new PPM, the format is doing very well (look at Clear Channel's ratings in Miami, NYC, Philly). In fact, WMIA in Miami is Clear Channel's highest rated station in their cluster there now. Clear Channel's pop/dance version of the format seems to be a great way to attract the 30 and 40 something female demos, and this is a highly sought after audience. So with recent PPM successes, I wouldn't be surprised to see Clear Channel continue to roll these rhythmic AC's out in most of their markets (like they've done with the CHR format and the Kiss brand). Also, besides introducing new rhythmic AC's, they've also retooled some other stations to move more in that direction in the past few weeks (like KISQ San Francisco and KHHT L.A. Both were urban AC's but have recently adjusted their music to go rhythmic AC. The transition is complete at KISQ and all indications are that KHHT is going to follow suit soon).

Anyway, I'm glad. I've liked the rhythmic AC format from the beginning, and I'm glad to see it catching on. Also, I tend to like Clear Channel's more dance and pop based version better than the original Hip Hop/urban leaning Movin' version.

Whoa..... WHOA!!!

I think I need to go to Wal-Mart and buy a pair of glasses because I don't think I'm seeing correctly..

A Rhythmic AC in Atlanta!???
ATLANTA FINALLY GOT THIS TYPE OF FORMAT IN TOWN!

WOW!!!!!

Now THIS is going to be interesting for many many many reasons.. and I don't even know where to begin!!!

Anyway... since I am too speachless to talk, I'll just not speak more on it until some time goes by and they begin to drift more rhythmic, reduce their playlist, or... do something. I don't know what they'll do over time, but I can guarantee that one of those things will happen eventually.

Gee.. I don't know what to say! And what are they going to do about some of those older hits that many people who've resided only in Atl. over the past 10 - 16 years are unaware of? Q did play some stuff that was odd for Atlanta during their noon hour a few years back, finally playing certain stuff for the first time there a few years after it actually came out, but.... look how long that lasted.

Well... this is going to be interesting to see and watch unfold. A Rhythmic AC in ATLANTA!

The wonders never cease.

Now, if a traditional top 40 also just happens to pop up there and I find out about it, I might just take the rest of the year off of work because this would be so big that I'd have to consider it a holiday.

So there's a Rhythmic AC!

Now there just needs to be

1. - that alternative lean Adult AC where stuff like the classic UB40, Rob Thomas, Simple Minds, Ace of Base, Hootie & The Blowfish, Melissa Ethridge, Real McCoy, Goo Goo Dolls, Annie Lennox, ...etc are supposed to be played because I know with the history of Star 94, people will be VERY familiar with the Adult AC sound. Actually, I guess lite rock covers that somewhat, but lite rock doesn't lean alternative like the Adult AC does, and it's not the same. I guess the currents on the Adult AC could be certain Black Eyed Peas songs, certain Lady Gaga, maybe some Nickelback, Natasha Beddingfield, Kings of Leon, The Fray, Rob Thomas, ... all the typical Adult AC stuff.

AND IN ADDITION TO THAT,

2. A traditional top 40 that plays ALL the hits!! You know! Beyonce - Sweet dreams, Lady GaGa - Paparazzi, IYAZ, Alicia Keys, Akon, Pitbull, Cascada, B.E.P., Miley Cyrus, Jeremih, Jay Sean, LMFAO, TI, Taylor Swift....etc.

THEN, I think Atlanta would pretty much be complete, or at least "up to date".

Anyway, enjoy all your feel good music out there! Ours where I live has already gone into more of a top 40 direction - basically a rhythm-top 40 with Vengaboys, and back in the day stuff put in. Our Saturday Night Block Party Mix is GREAT, too, but removing all the other mixes for talk show hosts like Seacrest in my opinion was just a dumb idea. Lets see how Groove operates.............. It will be interesting.
