Thanks for the report BRNout. I likr the G5 also because of it's portability & it's worked very well for me.
26 floors is a good test! :D
Hi radioman! Well, for the record, what I was conveying was that I dropped it on the concrete deck (from about 5 feet up) when the temperature was -26 degrees Fahrenheit. My ski gloves slipped and I pulled a clumsy manuever to drop it. :p

The little plastic cover to the dial readout popped off, but I superglued it back on and it's fine. The temperature was starting to play with the LCD display and - after 90 minutes - with the tuner's accuracy. Once I brought it back in and warmed it up, it was fine! And, it's still performing just as well as it did on day 1. BTW - Only a dx and cigar nut would ever stand around outside in those temperatures!!! ;D

As good as it is, I wouldn't try a 26 floor drop!

And I thought I was crazy while on vacation in Hawaii trying to DX the mainland & elsewhere.
Not only that, but I thought it passed the 26th floor test ;D ;D

I use a a modified Eton E100 with an external ferrite bar antenna w/sliding bar per the instructions on the DXer.CA website. The improvement is incredible, both in the E100's ability to pick up a very weak signal and in it's ability to null unwanted stations. I'm less than 5 miles from 1530/WCKY with the nighttime northern lobe directed right at me and the modification does cause problems on the frequencies around 1530.

The E100 has been discontinued but is still available, unfortunately not at at reasonable prices, however DXer.CA has instructions on how to add an external ferrite bar antenna to at least one ultralight DT400W Sangean receiver.

The E100 mod is very simple.

Thanks for the advice. I might try one of those antennas.
