Oof. A 0.1 for a C3. That's actually pretty sad. Surely they are considering a flip at this point. Can not get any worse.
I understand 104.9 was flipped to sports to clear Premiere’s FSR and compliment the male demos for the cluster’s sales purposes, but even their local show is getting no social media interaction because nobody’s listening. The Roar is very established and The Fan doesn’t do that great but is more established and has some local shows that have a pretty loyal audience. 104.9 is weaker than the other signals in the iHeart cluster as a C3 but you can easily get a HD lock on it from parts of Anderson to Spartanburg and of course all of Greenville and Pickens county, it’s no trash signal. Sad when Summit and Audacy are putting more effort in to their 250 watt translators.Oof. A 0.1 for a C3. That's actually pretty sad. Surely they are considering a flip at this point. Well, this year’s primary season is likely to be pretty much a non event considering who their nominee is likely to be so I wonder if there will even be any bump. There are no notable statewide elections or primaries next year either. However, once WGTK flips to K-LOVE I wouldn’t be surprised if they see a small bump.Looks like WYRD’s honeymoon period on 98.9 is also over as well, at least until primary season I suppose.
WHZT’s new morning show just does not have the IT factor the previous one did. I wonder why Dex and Barbie T left Summit? They exited their market completely for Jacksonville and have been successful so far down there.
Speaking of Hot 104.5 and Hot 98.1. I recently noticed that the afternoon in house girl on Hot 104.5 has been added at Hot 98.1 as well in the same timeslot. Christina is her name, I believe.Well, this year’s primary season is likely to be pretty much a non event considering who their nominee is likely to be so I wonder if there will even be any bump. Tino Cochino on 98.1 is a syndicated evening/night show that isn’t really meant for AM drive. I guess it can work, but Dex and Barbie T were a huge loss. They were much more entertaining than the exhausted Hawk and Tom who should have been sent to Magic over a decade ago. I would suspect Cox gave them a better offer, WAPE is a heritage CHR in a larger market over being on with Summit in Greenville and Knoxville. Hot 104.5 in Knoxville is running Tino Cochino too.
The only thing 104.9 does is clear the Gamecock football rights for the Upstate. And John Ellis (Bill Ellis’s son, the former Whistle 100 guy) does the Clemson tailgate show for WESC (who has Clemson rights in GSP). I think they also clear SC SportsTalk with Kornblut.I just checked the social media pages for Fox Sports Upstate. No posts on Twitter since 8/21 and they have like 140 followers. Facebook page has been deleted. Instagram hasn’t been updated in 2 years and has 15 followers. The station has been on the air for 2 years this month!
The Fan has 8k and some change followers on Twitter, 13k on Facebook, and like 1700 on Instagram and all are updated almost daily. Plus the pages for their local shows are pretty active as well.
Bill Ellis is actually still at WSSL. I believe John does some other sports stuff for iHeart in Charlotte now as well. The Gamecock sports on 104.9 make a lot of music formats difficult but I thought it worked well with Real Rock. Once WGTK goes away, they could do News/talk on 104.9 and get Hannity and clear almost all of the Premiere talk programming other than Coast to Coast. The only thing 104.9 does is clear the Gamecock football rights for the Upstate. Columbia has a major university right on its doorstep and has 3, but 1320 and 1400 are right off the bird basically 24/7, then you have 1470 carrying that 6pm Kornblut show that used to be on 560. I think 560 still does their own Gamecock tailgate coverage too.
i dont believe iheart cares about ratings or social media on 104.9. there is no cost to run fsr and all of the other programming has money attached to it like usc sports. with no overhead other than maintenance they are just depositing checks. in this month 104.9 with a .1 and the fan with a .2. the roar doesnt even show up. not a big sports market. i understand the discussion is about the waste of a c3 signal, but for the business its about making moneyI understand 104.9 was flipped to sports to clear Premiere’s FSR and compliment the male demos for the cluster’s sales purposes, but even their local show is getting no social media interaction because nobody’s listening. My theory of iHeart Greenville is the focus is country meaning keeping WSSL strong and WESC strong enough to serve as a flanker. 102.5 and 104.9 are plug and play afterthoughts that can be sold with the country stations as a package deal most likely.i dont believe iheart cares about ratings or social media on 104.9. there is no cost to run fsr and all of the other programming has money attached to it like usc sports. with no overhead other than maintenance they are just depositing checks. in this month 104.9 with a .1 and the fan with a .2. the roar doesnt even show up. not a big sports market. i understand the discussion is about the waste of a c3 signal, but for the business its about making money
maybe not subscibing is a good thing for sports stations if there are costs to be cut operators are looking for themMy theory of iHeart Greenville is the focus is country meaning keeping WSSL strong and WESC strong enough to serve as a flanker. 102.5 and 104.9 are plug and play afterthoughts that can be sold with the country stations as a package deal most likely.
I didn’t realize WCCP didn’t even show up. Maybe they don’t subscribe? Also missing is 99.9 WKSF which for years always had a 1-2 share since they pretty much soak the area with a city grade signal. Biggest issue I’ve noticed is the HD signal starts getting flaky in Anderson county.
The bump won't be in the ratings, but in the revenue. All those political ads. Plus, with the bigger signal, they will also get statewide ads from North Carolina. And, with WGTK gone, political buys pretty much have one place.Well, this year’s primary season is likely to be pretty much a non event considering who their nominee is likely to be so I wonder if there will even be any bump. Beat me to the punch lol.https://ratings.****************/content/arb191
Nice finish for The Block up above a TWO share which seems to come at the expense of WBAV’s impressive performance recently. X-98.5 is seeing a nice slow increase, lol.
WYRD on 98.9 seems to be losing steam, back where they were on 106.3. With the upcoming presidential candidates pretty much decided, and a lack of competitive statewide races, I wonder if the revenue will be there from political ads as there has been in previous election cycles. Primaries are just a formality for the presidential election at this point, the GOP primary, whoever is left at that point, isn’t going to move the needle. 98.9 listeners are Trump supporters except for a relative handful.
WSPA-FM is back down again to a 1.6. If things don’t start to improve there I wonder if The Block could go to 106.3 and keep the Anderson translator? Magic is doing so poorly because it hasn’t been promoted. It’s like launching a new radio station with zero promotion and depending on listeners to just find it. Most people probably assume they just went away and were replaced with talk.
Salem is going out with a whimper.
Unfortunately, based on my real driving experience, the move from 95.9 to 95.5 seemed problematic. It basically eliminated good reception in much of Anderson, and for all practical purposes, removed the Earth FM presence from Clemson (but perhaps that is irrelevant). Yes, it helped on the south-southwestern side of Greenville, but I'm not sure that's where the audience is. It seemed 95.5 did really well around Powdersville, Easley and surprisingly Fountain Inn. But by the time I'd reach Exit 19 on I-85, it was already getting a bit choppy. I'd imagine reception inside buildings in Anderson was terrible. By contrast, 95.9 took over a bit farther south on I-85, but delivered solid reception in Anderson and right onto the Clemson campus and into Seneca. I can't help but think losing a lot of Anderson did not help matters. I also wonder how truly reflective these ratings are of real listenership.Audacy should try to tie the Christmas music to being on a different frequency this year and do some promotion for Magic. I wonder how the 1.6 share on 106.3 would compare to the 3-4 shares they were getting on 98.9 generally? They really only seem worried about WYRD as far as investment.
I’m not aware of any changes The Block has made so it’s interesting to see their increase over 50% in the past few months. It seems like they’re also pushing Hot 98.1 down to staying in the 3’s. I know they got a new midday host a while back when Kelly Mac (previously of WJMZ) parted ways with them or vice versa.
It’s interesting regarding Salem that Earth FM stayed stable throughout the 95.9 to 95.5 frequency change. I thought it might help them in western/southern Greenville County and eastern Pickens County, but they did lose coverage in parts of Oconee County. A 2.0 12+ is the lowest I’ve seen them in a very long time.
Edit - I just noticed the Anderson translator for Magic (WFBC-HD4) that was previously on 101.5 has moved to 95.9 as of 2 weeks ago.
