Well then, why aren't today's major league pitchers pitching a full game like Herb Score did way back when?? Instead, they limit most of them to pitch counts, regardless of how great they are doing.
Baseball is a long, grueling season of 162+ games lasting around 3 hours a game -- Almost 10x longer than an NFL season and 3x longer than an NBA season. Yeah, the announcing in a baseball game is much slower paced than football or basketball, but prep time is the same, travel time is the same and you still have to watch the game for at least 2 hours. Why do you think most baseball announcers get to leave the mic for an inning or so each game? Because there are no 20-minute halftime breaks!
The years that Joe Tait was announcing both for the Cavs and The Indians, he either just did the selected TV broadcasts seen on WUAB, or if both teams played on or around the same days, he chose one over the other.
Plus, in MLB, you may have to work up to 2 weeks straight without a SINGLE day off -- even more if you have postponed games or doubleheaders to make up for later in the season. Geez, give Hammy (and other big-name baseball announcers) a break!
