Guesses on 96.5?

Ok, I am in Dayton and I can pick up both 94.9 and 96.5 (96.5 better). I am DYING to know what is 96 gonna be. I've heard.. Rock, Classic Rock, Top 40, and more. I REALLY REALLY WANT Movin' to come in. Movin' 96.5 Cincinnati would do good and compete against Warm 98 or the other stations there. Here in Dayton, I think it would share listeners with Mix, Lite, and even WROU MAYBE. So, guesses people. What do you guys think will hit the airwaves on 96.5?

~Jason, Die-Hard Movin' Fan

LOL. I am listening to Movin' 92.5 Seattle and it sounds good. Madonna-P.Diddy-J.Lo.... that's a great mix. Cincinnati needs something like this. I am either hoping for a CHR/Rhythmic, Urban, or Movin' because that's what's gonna keep Cinci going. If they go to Rock I will be extremely upset considering I have 103.9 THE X, 97.3 Frog, and all that. I am not gonna lie, Cumulus- be smart.

AIM: fever98radio if you want to gripe with me.

KEEP THE COMMENTS COMIN'!

Why would cumulus want 96.5 to compete against itself and 98.5 since 96.5 and 98.5 are sister stations. If Cumulus does anything they moved Star to a stronger signal to compete against b so why not try to shave a share off of Kiss or the Frog with either Rock or Top 40. THe Fox is their to protect the Frog so it be counter productive to try classic rock when there is already a classic rock protecting the Frog

I'm not in Cinci so I didn't realize they are sisters. I really want to see a "Movin" come to Ohio though. What would be smart would be to move 101.9 to 96.5 as a new top 40 "Q96.5" and then make 101.9 Movin' 101.9. What do you think it's going to be though?

I hope its not another country format. Cincinnati radio has way to many country stations. I can count Six Country receivable from where I am. Most of these are small stations in the rural areas of the Greater Cincinnati area.

I predict a Top 40 formatted station. Kiss 107 is way to urban and a more mainstream CHR would work and not hurt Warm 98 at all.

I can count a lot as well.

94.9
99.1
101.7
105.9

And more.... Come on now.. Gimme some top 40.

There's already been some discussion on this topic: http://www.radio-info.com/smf/index.php/topic,47519.10.html We'll find out in a few weeks what Cumulus has up its sleeve.

96.5's tower is closer to you than 94.9's, so it's no surprise that you get a better signal from it. Whatever appears there is almost certainly going to complement Warm and possibly the Star, both of which target women. If Movin' moves in, I would bet on Entercom to slap it on Q102, but not on Cumulus to put it on the old Star signal. They just sold the parent format.

I honestly think it's gonna be a CHR to compete against KISS or Movin' to demolish Q102 like Wylly said. More comments.. let's make this board full of guesses on formats. Or.. vote it.

WHAT WILL THE NEW 96.5 BE?

A. MAINSTREAM CHR
B. ACTIVE OR CLASSIC ROCK
C. "MOVIN"
D. SMOOTH JAZZ
E. OTHER

Maybe the thought process is. If MOJO was generating numbers and revenue as a older skewing station. Let us add some currents & Recurrents and make it a Movin type format and try to increase our market share. Naaah.... that would be too simple :0

If you want to count Dayton signals, we have more than enough urban/top 40. 92.1, 92.9, 94.5, & 102.9 all have better signals in Cincinnati than 101.7 or 103.9.

Is The Fox still playing Piano Man & The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald? I'd say that there is a hole in the market for a newer classic rock format, similar to XM Big Tracks/Boneyard or Sirius Classic Rewind/Hair Nation. 96 Rock could pick up right where it left off almost 20 years ago to the day. 9-28-86, the last day of 96 Rock (phase I). ;)

If they really want to hurt B, put a station like Indy's Hank on 96.5. I've never liked Jack stations much, but I love the "we play anything" format for country. Nobody in town is playing what Hank plays. Hank's HD-2 "Roots of American Music" format is also one of my favorites. Everything from Shooter Jennings to Big Bad Voo Doo Daddy. I'd put HD Radio in my other cars for Hank's HD-2.

BTW, I love everything on Star except 3 songs: Devil Went Down to Georgia, Sweet Home Alabama, & Margaritaville. Almost any other Skynyrd, Buffett, or Charlie Daniels would be great. Many of us turned to country to avoid that overplayed stuff! Please don't add Freebird!

Like Wylly told me,

Cumulus is women-targeted and nothing would be better than Movin' to snag some of Mojo's old listeners. It will work. CUMULUS, CHANGE WHATEVER YOU ARE DOING AND GET MOVIN'! LOL.

Yup. (yawn) Clear Channel intentionally keeps Fox lower in the ratings so as not to eat into WEBN's share of the market. Corporate radio at its finest. Screw the listener, it's not about them, it's about market share and advertising revenue. I'd love to be a fly on the wall in CC's local management meetings when the books come out.

It certainly seems like Cumulus likes the classic rock format, their portfolio has a lot of classic stations. Thanks to the buyout that also includes the legendary KFOG. I could go for some of that here!

I want something good. Dance would be "original". Something like KTU in NYC.

My thoughts are Rock-N-Roll Hit's of the 60's & 70's with a lean more towards 70's music. Not a Jammin Oldies R&B, but songs like Magic by Pilot, Billy don't be a Hero, etc. Cumulus is taking this newer format and making it work in other Markets.

Does anyone know if there is there a non-compete claus with MoJo 100.3 and what does it contain???

I am out of state, but did any of the Former MoJo Jock's move to MoJo 100.3???

The new Mojo is music intensive (read: jock free) for the first month or so of its existence. The current Mojo staff was free to interview with Radio One, but I don't know if any of them changed camps. They already have morning and afternoon drive covered, so middays and nights are the only dayparts that beg for coverage.

Don't know about the non-compete, but this town seems content (with the exception of KISS) to let Radio One have the urban business. A Hits format seems logical.

My best guess would be either a mainstream Top 40 (something between Q and Kiss), or Rock targeting 'EBN. Looking at their station portfolio, they do have several rock and/or Top 40 properties so that would make the most sense - but who knows. If there is any station in this market that should try a "Hank" style format it is 105.9.

Logged in from school.... I think that it will be a mainstream top 40 and that it will have jocks almost instantly. I don't think it will do SUPER GOOD but it will be good enough and beat Mix 94.1 as well. Movin' pretty much out of the question now. I sure do hope it's not rock. I hear enough of it as it is and being in Dayton with The X and TUE, what more could I ask for?
