If there were a change to a CHR format on the 102.5 frequency, it would be next to impossible for it to be a transition seeing what they have now...I guess it's possible, but it would be disasterous. I don't see Clear Channel giving the staff there a third shot after running mainstream AC in to the ground then (allegedly) failing with Hot AC. They don't have the air talent or programming to pull off CHR, anyway, it would require a re-name/re-image, etc. You'd just as well start over new to have a clean slate and get some decent press/promotion.
I guess it was felt that "MY" was a heritage brand and a plus to them, but I feel negatively about it. I still associate it with a tired AC format and as a station for 40 and 50-something women that liked the Little River Band and Elton John. Not GaGa or Carly Rae Jepsen.
BTW: I was going to mention this on the CHR board under the Rock thread, but I think this is a more appropriate place for it - Greenville-Spartanburg as a market covers a large area, so it's really more "southern" and conservative than you would think. A LOT of the transplants from other areas are concentrated in eastern Greenville county (like Eastside Greenville, the Five Forks/Hwy 14/Woodruff Rd areas of Simpsonville, Greer) - that's just a small part of the market. Take in to account the market also has northern and (especially) western/southern Greenville county, Spartanburg county, Anderson county, Pickens county that in most areas don't necessarily have high amounts of "outsiders" that would seem to support formats like Alternative, Hot AC, etc. If you stand back and look at it, the market is really quite large in the geographic area it covers. Totally off topic from this thread, but I thought this was a decent place to note it (compared to the CHR board).
