Guns, Roses, and MY 102.5?

Yeah, they've definitely opened it up! I heard them play Red Hot Chili Peppers going in to LMFAO "Sexy & I Know It" this morning.
LMFAO, Nirvana, Ke$ha, AC/DC, Killers, Eminem, and Linkin Park on the same station is quite unique. At least they're pressing forward with newer stuff and not reverting back to AC. Perhaps they think adding more rhythmic stuff will help in the target demo (30s females) which we have no idea about their performance in.

I have to agree with your second paragraph. That's definitely true with a lot of stations towards the end. You sort of hear desperation. I hope that's not the case with MY. They have flaws - like other stations - but I would miss it as a listening option.

I'm not too crazy about the fact that they're adding more rhythmic stuff. That's one of the reasons I liked it to begin with as far as the new music was concerned ....being able to listen to more of the pop and rock hits without the rhythmic lean of stations like B93.7.

But I can live with it since they are stretching the boundaries in other areas (including newer rock that isn't being played elsewhere in the Upstate).

Maybe they are gonna morph into what WMIA sounds like down in MIA!!! CC1

Took at look at their playlist:

http://www.mediabase.com/mmrweb/7/stationplaylistrequest.asp?c_let=WMIA-FM

And, God, I hope not. Although they cover some of the newer music material, they look an awful like like MY did when they first went to "Hot" AC --- hanging onto a lot of 70s/80s songs that don't belong. Maybe even worse....Donna Summer, Bee Gees and Whitney Houston?!?!?

Think MY has come along way. They still do make an occassional flub like REO Speedwagon or one of Journey's slower songs. But for the most part it's 90s through today. And even though I mentioned them adding more rhythmic songs, they still are more on the pop/rock side of things. Don't think MIA would ever play something like the Killers or Nirvana based on what I'm seeing.

Just hope the more open playlist is a reaction to try to have the "most" variety -- something they really can't claim against Chuck (which is also older leaning).

While about 90% of the playlist has stayed the same (mostly pop/rock from 2000s-today), those "flood gates" that seemed to have opened has created some bizarre combinations. Kind of does remind me of the "what's around the next corner" feeling of Chuck and Charlie. And you have to take the good with the bad, at least in terms of your personal musical tastes. Was happy to hear Depeche Mode this afternoon only to cringe at Nelson an hour or so later.

Oh well, it still beats the old MY. Whether it beats the old MY in ratings is another story.

I would like to know if MY shares more listeners with B or Magic now. At first, it sounded like they were trying to play more AC'ish music to attract the Magic audience, but now I hear way more overlap with B, especially with this rhythmic trip they're on. Anything beats the old MY in its last few years. That is a station I do not miss at all. Magic was really not much better, though, and that station has gone downhill greatly since MY's change last July (which will be a year ago next week). So stale.

Speaking of B-93.7, I think they've improved musically lately. Seems like there's a better balance of pop/rock (what little there is on CHR) and pop/rhythmic.

I'll be anxious to see the ratings tomorrow (it is 7/17 when the come out, right?) to see how MY's doing even though the trends didn't look so good.

I hate to keep going back and forth on this, but it seems like MY is forcing me to do so. It almost seems like every week they try something a "little different" to see how it sticks (don't know how they're seeing numbers to refect any of those changes, but still). This week, it seems taking a step backwards again. I've heard a TON of Madonna the last two days..after hearing little to none of her music in recent months. And little in the way of surprises that keep it fresh or edgy like they seemed to be doing in past weeks.

Maybe some of the things they were doing were an attempt to try to bring male listeners into the fold. And perhaps they think it wasn't working because it definately seems more female focused again with fewer of their '80s/90s songs being rock oriented (shouldn't be a surprise if that's truly what they're after) in recent days.

Could just be me overanalyzing as usual. Just really does seem like they're floundering around and taking them from one place to another every week. Only consistancy is most of the newer stuff.

Yes the spring ratings book comes out tomorrow and will be published here at 5pm. It will include the Entercom stations, who don't subscribe to the trends, so it's a nice "surface" look of everyone. I really hope MY can at least beat The Planet, or somebody, and not be dead last. They have faults, but sound way better than stations like The Planet and Magic.

I'm not huge on the Madonna-type stuff either, but she is probably popular with some females in their 30s, moreso than Pat Benatar or AC/DC. If they are really cutting back on rock and adding more stuff like Madonna, I think it makes sense given that I've heard some more recent rhythmic tracks lately. "Love The Way You Lie" going in to "You Shook Me All Night Long" is painful. I still hear them play stuff like Nirvana, or U2. Perhaps they ought to take on a slogan like Voodoo 104 in New Orleans (who reminds me a lot of MY a year ago), "retro, rock, dance, and everything inbetween." ;)

I heard today that it is the fresh "new" sound's birthday. Still sounds ten times better than before they changed things, or even 6 months ago.

Gold Digger by Kanye West this morning, sounds good on My but not hot AC. Changing to CHR, maybe?? HD2 My 80 back on the air with song titles, excellent! Seems to be less muti-path in Asheville too.

They've been playing it for a while now. Agree that it doesn't belong on Hot AC, but overall, I still think they're more Hot AC than CHR (although the line continues to blur even on other Hot AC stations). They do sometimes throw something in there that is a little more agressive for Hot AC, but then again they occassionally play a slower '80s song that doesn't fit either.

The station is much improved from when they first started Hot AC overall.

Link, please? My old link won't work.
Here's a link to the latest, but it doesn't include the stations that didn't subscribe to the trends:

Thanks. If I can spare the time, I'll register.

I'd like to point-out the post by pccrw. Once you've gandered at it, and maybe one or two that followed. Open mindedly, I ask you to hear me out, regarding labels. Record labels do not care whether your station is successful, just as long as you play what they want played. Airplay is very powerful, and labels will sign, record, and pimp something toward your format. They'll tell you that it is a "Country-crossvoer" record; when, truthfully, there is no such thing. Nationally, those songs have ruined AC stations. Review the past ten years. Hip-hop garbage, such as the posted "Gold Digger" by Kayne West, is just a pure example of what has poluted, and ruined CHR, and Hot AC's. It doesn't fit, and it has never fit, but somehow it gets airplay. The common understanding is that if you don't, then you'll loose your reporting status. Question: How important is your reporting status, when your 4-share ain't delivering the payroll? Granting airplay to songs that are simply "Unacceptable". Eminem(M&M), Jay-Z, Diddy, are just as an erosion as Rascal Flats, Faith Hill, and her drugstore cowboy husband, Tim. If they are marketed as a Country artist, NO AC airplay! Hip-hop should be on a format all by itzzz-zelf, and you'd see it die on the vine. Poluted formats =equal fragmented listening, and your reward is a 4-share...while the Country stations enjoy a 9.

I got confused and though I was reading about X-98.5 when the post was really about My 102.5.

Maybe it's time for this topic to make a comeback.
