Lee Hamilton has left Clear Channel Communications and his Xtra Sports 1360 show. He did his last show on Wednesday night. "No contract."

The ratings since the switch to sports has put them on the map. They are number one in un-rated stations in Sandy Eggo. ;D

The YOU-TEE has pulled "The Sports Page".

The signal sucks, and already the nighttime reception (and early morning) in North County is getting worse due to the longer-day cycle.

I was wondering what happened to Hacksaw. He would do a daily segment on KLAC during the Loose Cannons, in the 12pm hour. However, no mention of Hacksaw at all...not even an explanation on why he's not on that day. I wonder what happens now...does he stay in-market and go to 800 or 1090, or does he go to another market?

Let me help you a little here. "longer-day cycle" should probably be "shorter day cycle" if you're referring to skywave interference.

As to the 'saw, Mr. Lynch may be very interested in an opportunity to put a familiar face for radio on his stick.

Hi, once-a-year visitor to San Diego from New York who's enjoyed Hacksaw's shows since I started visiting California over 20 years ago. There's one possibility for Hacksaw's future (pure speculation on my part): Christopher "Mad Dog" Russo (late of Sportsradio 66 WFAN New York's "Mike & The Mad Dog" show) is starting his own 24 hour "live" sports talk channel on Sirius & XM Satellite radio (on both services simultaneously-the first such show). Chris has said he's looking for a host to hold down the late evening/early morning Eastern Time/early to late evening Pacific Time slot, preferably from the L.A. area so as to be able to talk about West Coast sports events as they are unfolding. I don't know if Lee's interested in such a position. (Lee was always a guest on the "Mike & the Mad Dog" Super Bowl week shows when the game was played in San Diego.) Just trying to connect the dots...

KLAA/Orange County (830AM) is moving toward all sports. They're the flagship of the Angels and Ducks and are slowly adding more sports related programming. I'd love to see Hacksaw wind up on a 50,000 watt flame thrower like that.

Wow. Dint think of the XM/Sirius Sportschannel until you mentioned it. If thats what Russo is looking to do...yea hacksaw would fit the requirements perfectly. I think the 3rd shifters in NY would really dig his style, and back on in California too.

I listen to KLAA on occasion, mostly to the morning drive show with Roger Lodge and Dave Smith. I've listening to Smith for years locally, and I don't necessarily agree with what comes out of his mouth. Lodge, surpisingly enough as one of those TV talking heads, has a good wealth of knowledge about sports. KLAA is certainly another option for the Saw, it does keep him semi-local. They could probably set-up an auxiliary studio for him in San Diego, if he doesn't want to make the trip north to Anaheim (KLAA originates from Angel Stadium).

I mean read the print, the biggest name on that station--Hacksaw--has been axed and the U-T and possibly their biggest source of advertisement (through a small ad in the Sports section) and it was their biggest source of advertising for that station other than an occasional mention on KGB or KOGO.

A relatively low-powered AM station on the "right side" of the dial ( as we used to say in the days of analog tuners)? No matter what you program on it, that is early 20th century technology at its worst. There are only three AM stations in the top 20 of the San Diego ratings, all on the "left" side of the dial (and all talk format). Los Angeles has only two AM's in the top 20, both on the "left". San Francisco has four lefties in the top 20. Sacramento is the exception with KFBK on the right side of the dial, but on the top of the 12+ ratings: of course it is a clear channel station so it can cut through the static.

I think the AM's like those in San Diego at 1170, 1240, 1360, etc. have outlived their usefulness as means of communications it would seem to be hard to justify putting much money into programming them so say nothing of atually putting money into buying one. I was driving but the antenna site for AM 1000 last week and wondered why, during the last housing boom, the value of the site did not exceed the value of the license? Probably in the next boom it will.

Someone mentioned about Hacksaw perhaps going to New York. If I'm not mistaken, he's from that area of the country, so that may not be too far off the mark. But he's just as much a part of southern California as sunshine and earthquakes, so it would be hard for me to know that he doing radio in another part of the country.
