Hampton Roads gets hit with a "Kungpao!"

Why does everyone think this is so creative? It was done in MANKATO, MINNESOTA several years ago. Name and all.

I was just gonna say the same thing as you did...KDOG/Mankato, MN did this. I'll give these guys credit for making a website though.

OK, I've seen you post here and I think R&N before. Have we met? PM me, if you'd like...

Yeah, bonus points for the website, and great execution. But, like you say, it HAS been done before. Still, it beats the umpteenth countdown clock or format-of-the-hour schtick.

I actually recognize a couple of these traditional tunes from my parents old record collection. (Yes, I mean VINYL!) Some of these songs are supposed to be played mainly to celebrate Chinese New Year.

I'm recording about an hour of it to play next time I visit my parents & see what their reactions will be. ;D

I give them points for creativity on the stunting, which I too think it is.
Hopefully they put that much effort into the format.

I predict CHR. BIG hole for it! Z104 finishes near the top book after book. "The Zone" did decent on a signal nobody heard. On a big signal, they could easily pull 4 shares. Straight up mainstream, grabs some from Z104 and from The Point.
"HOT 100.5"??
They have "HOT 107.1" in Denver
You were right... ;) And they are using the same exact logo...

Here's Max's station in Denver that just recently launched... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3qJaoXpW6Z4

Hot 100.5 Great... Just what I need more top 40 NOT!

Jamie, there IS no other mainstream Top 40 in the market.

But hey, you probably have a tuning knob and an on/off switch....

I have nothing against top 40... I can just get tired of it.
I called VA beach my escape from the top 40.. we have so much CHR up in NYC. When I am in VA Beach I really liked Max-fm, #2 preset was 98.7, and #3 96.1. VA beach was my vacation spot for the escape from CHR music. There was a top 40 station 2 to 3 years ago but It went country or something on the upper part of the dial near 106 or 107 and there was that was also a classic rock station... ... I wish that station was top 40 because then max fm would still be around IMHO.

This cannot be for real ???? But from VARTV.com it is there. But a stunt for Mancow is likely....or drop Classic Chinese and leave HITS for a CHR on Monday.

But if it is for real, is there enough Chinese for this to work?

I guess I half called this one on Friday. HITS for CHR it is as....HOT 100.5. Not crazy about the logo's colors though, BUT CHR RETURNS on a FULL MARKET SIGNAL !!!! Now will it sound as great as 1061 the Zone did?

And Should Z104/94.9 the Point worry about this ?????

And Ryan Seacreast cannot be cloned here.....94.9 The Point already has Ryan Seacreast. YAY !

Alright, here's what I see: MaxFM was struggling. We already have two rockers in Hampton Roads, 96X and FM99. the Chinese stunt was kind of random if I must say so myself. I have heard plenty of format flips and stunts, but this jus seemed extreme for some reason. Anyways. . . We really DO need a true Top40/CHR station. Enough R&B and Hip-Hop stations to go around, enough Rock, but Z104 is catering to a demo that is into the rhythmic scene and not what you would hear on say, Bob 93-3 (WERO, Washington, NC) or WKZL (107-5'KZL, Winston-Salem/Greensboro, NC).

I DO believe that this is going to give WNVZ a run for their money, and I'm glad. The Point (WPTE 94.9) should be alright with their Hot AC format, Ryan Seacrest and their fairly good ratings.

No, it wouldn't. Terrible ratings against two heritage competitors. Max never got out of the gate.

Top 40 all over NYC? It was all Z100 until just recently.

VERY recently actually. Denver's HOT 107.1 is located in a highrise on Dartmouth Ave in Aurora, CO ( the Denver line goes through their building or darn close to it anyway )
My friends live across the street and their van still says the old "107.1 ONE Fm" as does many bus stop ads around that city. Not sure how much of Denver's HOT is VT or not. According to my friends, on the weekends the entire complex is empty...other than the One FM Van in the parking lot so I guess weekends are voice tracked there, unless their staff lives within walking distance or takes "the Denver RTD Ride" to work ;D

nope many more
In the area within the rectangle with corners in Bridgeport, Trumbull, North Haven, and Branford, you can hear 6 CHR stations and in NJ you get all the ones from the south

Z100
92.3Now
KC101 (CT) 106.3 (NJ)
Kiss 95.7 (CT) 106.5 (NJ)
106.1 BLI
101.7 The Beach

adult contemporary plays almost the same music as CHR heres whats around the NYC area some are rimshots:
Lite 100.5 WRCH (CT) WHUD, 102.3 (NJ)
97.3 WZBG Litchfield (CT)
WBMW 106.5 (CT)
98.3 WKJY (NJ) 98.3 danbury(CT)

most of the NYC area
106.7 WLTW
97.5 WALK
100.7 WSUS
103.9 WFAS, 106.3 WFAF
Star 99.9 (CT)
WEBE 108 (CT)
96.7 WCTZ The Coast (CT)

If you're in northern Jersey you're not going to be able to pick up Kiss 95.7 or KC 101, or BLI for that matter. Kiss 95.7's signal is very difficult to pick up in areas where you can pick up Now 92.3 and Z-100, and 106.1 BLI.
101.7 The Beach can only be heard in the Hamptons, where you're gonna have a hard time picking up Z and Now.
The 106.3/106.5 combo known as Hit 106 can be heard in Monmouth-Ocean, where you won't be able to pick up WBLI, and in some parts of those counties Z-100 and Now 92.3 dont come in well.
I'm surprised you havent mentioned K-104 Poughkeepsie, which you cant start to pick up a bit north of NYC.
Anyways, most of them focus on completely different markets other then NYC. You can pick up a lot of stations from different markets in edge cities, but not in the entire metro area.

Most of the AC stations mentioned sound completely different from the CHRs. The only exception being 98 Q out of Danbury, which is much more of an adult leaning CHR/Pop than it is a Hot AC.
