For well over a decade the Norfolk-Virginia Beach market, otherwise known as Hampton Roads, had no CHR/Pop station. Almost 3 exact years ago (in late April of 2009) Hot 100.5 debuted with a CHR/Pop format, and gave heritage Rhythmic CHR Z-104 a run for its money.
In recent months it appeared that 94.9 The Point was also headed in that direction as its night-time playlist became increasingly CHR/Pop. In the end, it appears that Clear Channel decided to take the plunge and yesterday it flipped Classic Hits Magic 105.3 WVMA (which attained a very respectable 4.4 in the latest Arbs) to a full-blown CHR.
