Happy Trails, Cledus

Clarification: not "ship them in" via satellite or syndication but the other way around. CC will physically move a team to Atlanta. I would imagine they plan on syndicating the "new" show to other CC properties from Atlanta. Syndication will help off set the huge cost of getting the right competitive morning show.

Maybe Rodney covers TRG...because they have something going on.

Yeah, like the fact that they still interview strippers. Welcome to 1994 everybody. Groundbreaking bits like that must be why their ratings are through the roof.

Yeah, twice a month out of 80 hours a week and they make a contest out of it. The rest is music and dead air. Sure you've been listening.

Touch a nerve there did I?

Maybe it's Korean Christmas music.
Warning, bad ethnic joke ahead.

If that's the case, will the first song played on Korean Christmas be the barking dogs doing "Jingle Bells"?

Lord, I apologize for that right there, and please be with the starvin' pygmies down there in New Guinea, Amen.

Ok Neil, YOU get post of the week!! And right before Thanksgiving!

If they are going Commercial-free Christmas I hope they have a large playlist they are going to play from or it will get very old very fast.

If memory serves correctly, haven't they done a very Country-leaning Christmas since flipping to the Bull? Maybe this time it will be mainstream Christmas (like Lite FM did)....I guess that could be something the Bull has never done.

Last Christmas, 94.9 played all-Christmas music from only country artists. The PD was quoted as saying they would continue the tradition from Lite FM. It was also the first year B98.5 won the Christmas race, with 150 songs (The Bull managed to pull together about 400 from what I read).

Check the website (www.949thebull.com) and the old website links (www.peach949.com, www.949litefm.com, www.967litefm.com, which all redirect to 96.7 The Legend) to see if anything happens. A WHOIS search of possible domains may be needed as well. (The website for the Bull was leaked prior to launch...they may be more careful this time).

Obviously, they have a month to come up with a format.

The Bull just played Bye Bye bo Jo Dee Messina....then a collage of REO Speedwagon, Rick Springfield, then White Christmas, with a bunch of glass shattering, then some "creed of the bull"...then something about a bull in a china shop. They're just playing snips of different songs.

3,000 songs commercial free starts now!

Wow. That was an attention getter. They basically re-imaged themselves and will play 3,000 songs commercial free. Talk about throwing everyone off. We expected them to ditch the format, do a month of Christmas and come up with something new. Wow. they sure fooled us and we weren't the only ones. B98.5 was fooled and you can tell because they started playing Christmas music at Noon when we though 94.9 would.

I thought they would start playing Christmas Music too,but they started playing How Do You like Me Now by Toby Keith. Clay Honneycutt said CC is committed to the country format on 94.9.

If CC is committed to the Country format on 94.9, I would propose bringing "Lite FM" back on either the 105.3 or 105.7 signal. It could probably be enough to knock B98 a little bit and do decently. The 105.3 signal is more powerful, but 105.7 has better general coverage over the metro. Maybe it would help the cluster a little bit...

Yeah, I almost thought I was going to hear “Your Wildest Dreams” by The Moody Blues, and then the return of Steve Goss!
Ok, 3000 songs commercial free, sounds good, but why are they calling themselves The NEW 94.9 The Bull? I guess if it works for the River…
Also, haven’t heard a DJ since noon. Was Cledus not the only one who won't be back?

CC did try demoting Lite to 96.7 when the Bull came...which gave way to the Legend and ratings for 96.7.

Oh, did anyone else notice that they can update their own webpage.....a.k.a. removing all cletus pictures but yet their myspace link from their own web page show him on the profile photo and other photos of jocks who left the show/station a long time ago.....way to stay on top of things CC.

I don't think radio people are paranoid and catty. Are we?

I dont think that the Legend is going anywhere. I think its an awesome station with awesome music.

I think Legend is a candidate to get promoted to 105.3.

Legend is on 96.7 and it doesn't have a metro wide signal, you can't pick it up nort of I-20. I think the Bull should mix more of the Legend Music into it's playlist and then it would start having some success.

"New" is a magic word...or used to be until it got insanely over-used. Heck, maybe it still works...been a while since I looked at that sort of research.

I have a question...is it just me, or does this feel like a complete blow-off to the advertisers at the time they needed the station most? You know, sort of like what happened when Lite became Bull just before Christmas? Here we are in very tough economic times, with many advertisers trimming their budgets but some still committed to using a viable medium...and their station of choice says "no, you can't advertise here" at the most critical time of the year for many businesses? Doesn't look too smart from where I sit. Whether the format changes after the holidays or not, it'll be tough to get the advertisers back in first quarter, a traditionally deadly-slow time of year for radio sales.
