Oprah's radio division sheds GM John Gehron and PD Laurie Cantillo
Even the Oprah Winfrey empire isn't immune to budget cutbacks, which claim respected veterans Gehron and Cantillo. Gehron helped found Harpo Radio - the basis of the "Oprah & Friends" XM channel - in mid-2006 and staffed it with people such as programmer Laurie Cantillo. They're both being laid off as of today, with Harpo Radio apparently to be overseen by Harpo exec (and former top XM programming executive) Eric Logan. The T-R-I newsletter reports that two other staffers will be promoted to help run the facility that's located in Chicago's West Loop. Gehron's email to the industry says "This has been a remarkable experience and I feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to build something here." His long resume includes programming WLS, Chicago and WCBS-FM, New York, being a general manager, a group head for American Radio Systems and then a regional executive for CBS and Clear Channel. His email is [email protected].
