Has anyone heard 1510 power up yet?

And then we have this https://licensing.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/w...xt=25&appn=101787959&formid=911&fac_num=12789
I saw this this morning (07/05/2018) and what interests me is this part under "Exhibits"
Exhibits Exhibit 16
Description: EXTRAORDINARY CIRCUMSTANCES

WMEX WAS RECENTLY SOLD TO THE APPLICANT. THE TOWER SITE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE SALE AND HAS BEEN DISMANTLED. THE APPLICANT HAS SECURED ACCESS TO DIPLEX AT THE SITE OF AM STATION WBIX BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS. NON-DIRECTIONAL STA OPERATION WITH POWER OF 1 KILOWATT DAYTIME HOURS ONLY WAS AUTHORIZED IN FILE BSTA-20180522AAQ. DILPEXING EQUIPMENT HAS BEEN INSTALLED. THE LICENSEE HAS RETURNED TO OPERATIONAL STATUS PURSUANT TO BSTA-20180522AAQ.

IN ADDITION, THE APPLICANT HAS FILED APPLICATION BP-20180614AAH FOR A CONSTRUCTION PERMIT FOR REGULAR OPERATION AT THIS SITE. THE ENGINEERING STA IS NECESSARY TO MAINTAIN FULLTIME SERVICE TO QUINCY, MASSACHUSETTS.

Tends to make me believe they are back on the air. Since I am nowhere near to hear, Yea or Nay? Thanks

It has been on the air since this past Saturday morning, five days ago.

I don't believe it's at 1kW, though, it sounds like a lot less. I think I saw posted that this temporary signal is only around 100 watts, and it has been on 24/7, not daytime only. 100 watts is claimed to be the night power it will have to run when the day power goes up to 10 kW in September.

The details in this one are for STA to run 2 KW days and critical hours, and 100 watts nights.

Radio-locator is listing WMEX again and it mentions new owners and lists format as "A.C" however the coverage map and transmitter location are still showing the old 50 kW power and now-demolished Waltham site (showing as "WSSH-AM")
https://radio-locator.com/info/WMEX-AM
A web link redirects to WATD.It says Marshfield Broadcasting and lists the previous studio address, Victory Rd in Quincy

An AC format surely would come as a surprise and disappointment to the "deep oldies" cult waiting for their dream station to materialize.

If it's simulcasting WATD, is that format considered A.C.? Radio-locator's page for WATD says A.C. as well.
The local programming is due to debut in Sept with at least Jimmy Jay saying he'll spin oldies 9 am to 1 pm.(Joe McMillan had said he thought he'd be on MEX but was told he'd be on the "Brockton station" instead.

Joe is going to have to wait a bit longer... 7/6/18 approved

JUSTIFICATION FOR SILENT AUTHORITY

THE LICENSEE IS IN THE PROCESS OF IMPLEMENTING ITS CONSTRUCTION PERMIT, BPH-20160607AAH, TO BUILD ITS PERMANENT FACILITY AT THE AUTHORIZED TRANSMITTER SITE. THE LICENSEE HAS BUILT A ROAD TO ACCESS THE SITE, THE ELECTRIC FEED HAS BEEN INSTALLED, THE EQUIPMENT BUILDING IS BEING RE-LOCATED TO ITS NEW SITE AND THE TOWER SHOULD BE DELIVERED IN THE NEXT 2 WEEKS. THE LICENSEE EXPECTS TO BEGIN OPERATION, PURSUANT TO AUTOMATIC PROGRAM TEST AUTHORITY BY SEPTEMBER 1, 2018.THEREFORE, THE LICENSEE HAS MADE SUBSTANTIAL PROGRESS IN BRINGING WATD BACK TO OPERATING STATUS AND RESPECTFULLY REQUESTS A 6 MONTH EXTENSION OF SILENT AUTHORITY.

So, going back to earlier in this thread, the FCC does seem to have a sympathetic ear for a good sob story after all. All that countdown apocalypse talk as 6/30 approached seems kind of silly now, doesn't it?

Extenuating circumstances , WMEX could have stayed on the air at the old site, which is different from we were forced to move.

WATD AM was forced out, and that carries some weight with the FCC as far as the STA

Please read from the FCC Website: https://www.fcc.gov/media/radio/silent-radio-lists

If a station is faced with rent demands that the FCC can clearly see are not within the realm of reasonableness and certainly not what a high-band AM station could ever afford to pay, then the station can certainly state that it was forced to move. The "force" here is economic, but it is no different than other reasons often cited such as outright refusal to renew, seizure under eminent domain, declaration of the site as being contaminated, etc., etc.

No, no it doesn't.

The fact still remains that if WMEX hadn't been back on the air by 6/30/2018, its license would have been deleted as a matter of law. Because it returned under the 1 kW STA, it was eligible to then file for the pending 2 kW STA - and will eventually get its CP for 10 kW granted.

Same thing with 1460 - if you look at the entirety of the FCC record (right hand column here: https://fccdata.org/?facid=19631), you'll see that while it has been off the air on and off for several years, it has never been silent for more than 365 consecutive days. Most recently, WATD filed a resumption of operation notification (from an STA site at low power) on 7/18/2017, then applied for (and was granted) another silent STA on 1/22/18, with a 6-month extension requested on 7/6/18.

Ed must put WATD back on the air in some form by 1/21/2019 or lose the license. (Spoiler alert: he'll have it back on the air in some form and won't lose the license.)

Yes, the FCC is forgiving when there are extenuating circumstances - as long as the statutory 365-day silent period isn't exceeded.

Why is this so difficult to understand?

An AC format surely would come as a surprise and disappointment to the "deep oldies" cult waiting for their dream station to materialize.

The AC format listed is for what WMEX is airing right now, simulcasting WATD's AC format, not for what WMEX may be airing when it goes independent in September. Assuming it comes on independently with Oldies in September, Radio-Locator will change their listing.

Does the satellite-fed music service WCRN uses nights count as AC, or Oldies?

It doesn't seem to play anything contemporary (current), so you can't call it Adult Contemporary. The newest songs I've heard on it are from the '80s, maybe an occasional '90s. Though it's not officially a format name, I'd call it "soft oldies" or "soft classic hits".

Actually, wouldn't "AC oldies" or "Adult Oldies" fit the tag?

Am getting 1510 by both day and night in Beverly, halfway decent.Double checked last night..yes same thing as 95.9

Joe McMillan on facebook:
