Has anyone heard 1510 power up yet?

And yes.....I know this is a 1510 thread.............

I have a question about WRKO.....the last couple of nites and overnites there has been dead air at the top of every hour, it lasts for about 8 minutes...this time is supposed to be used to air the news and assorted psa, ads, etc etc....Sunday nite there was dead air until about 10:20 then a repeat of Howie's show for about 8 minutes then Bill Cunningham live....overnite C2C is cut off in mid sentence near the top of the hour and then dead air until the intro to the show at about 7 minutes past the hour...RKO has moved into new studios...I'm wondering who is responsible for queing up the start of ads, news, programs, etc...is it RKO or is it IHeart? Someone on another site suggested it may be the new studio and people getting the kinks out....I don't know if this happens during the day because I don't listen, except for Howie's show and he doesn't seem to have issues at the top of the hour. Also every morning at 5am the beginning of C2C starts again for about 20 minutes.

Am getting 1510 by both day and night in Beverly, halfway decent.Double checked last night..yes same thing as 95.9

Joe McMillan on facebook:
"TONIGHT "DICK SUMMER" back on 1510 WMEX and 95.9 WATD FM at 10PM "THE "DICK SUMMER BEDTIME PODCAST" Monday thru Friday PLUS WORLDWIDE ..www.959watd.com Streaming"
(15 min I think, then Peter Black's blues show)

Thanks for the info, Racoon. Dick Summer has a podcast of current and past shows.

Hearing RKO is now indeed in the iHR bldg in Medford.
Also WATD's long running Wide World of Blues may end soon.($ woes for the host)

So who would be responsible for queing up the programs, is it RKO or is it IHeart....I noticed last nite there was dead air around 9:55....I was listening again at 4am and things seemed to be back to normal, no dead air at the top of the hour and at 5am there wasn't a repeat of the first hour of C2C.

Post by Dennis deNapoli on Facebook:
"(Ed Perry) says he's going to simulcast WATD on Brockton and Quincy signals/news to 1 pm, then Ron Dwyer daily till Jimmy Jay till low power starting September 20th" (Remembering WMEX group)

The FCC today approved the WMEX application for 2 KW days and critical hours, 100 watts nights:

Actually, the days of critical hours for 15~Ten are now over. It's simply 2kw day and 100 night. No bulky phasor or big power bill. Non-directional 24/7.

1510 has some noise they need to deal with. Maybe from the tower lights? It is an alternating on/off background static/hum noise Seems cycle on for about 1 second, then off 1 second continuously. It is very consistent and is there every time I've checked 1510 over the last couple of weeks.

I've heard it in the background since the station came on the air last month. It's an alternating hum.

I think it is from the tower lights - sitting on 93 a couple days ago it seems to correlate with the light flashing. Seems they need some kind of noise filter on the toward light feed lines. I think the station sounds pretty good otherwise (audio quality wise). Same content as WATD of course.

Could also be a bad ground somewhere between the tower lights and transmitter or audio. Otherwise it sounds pretty good, but it's sounds like it's lacking low end bass response. I know why the high end has to be restricted on AM, but it should be possible to have more low end. Comparing the same song playing on WATD and WMEX, I lose hearing the bass switching to WMEX. I'm wondering if this airchain is temporary and will be revamped when they go full power.

Probably - that's what I was thinking. Seems they were really under the gun to get it back on the air.

So in the final air chain - put it in stereo like WJIB? Probably too much to ask but I still maintain CQUAM tuners in my cars and at home along with HD.

I'd venture a guess that the number of CQUAM tuners still in use within the WMEX signal contour doesn't reach double digits.

I still have home and portable C-Quam AM stereos too. I was going to suggest C-Quam AM stereo for WMEX, but was afraid no one would take me seriously.

The oldies 1150 version of WMEX was C-Quam AM stereo in the '80s when I worked there.

For those who aren't familiar with recent WMEX history:
--"Dr K" was a Libertarian with a talk station in Laurel MD. They rented time from WMEX (Blackstrap) and did conservative/libertarian talk and wanted to buy the station. In the end they were unsuccessful and the MD station went back to foreign language
programming
--Daly XXL bought WMEX in 2015. Howie Carr had been a part of the lineup since he launched his network in late 2014, but Howie went back to WRKO in March of 2015. Daly XXL featured Bryan Berner and his relatives (who owned the station; he may have had a small piece of it). At one point they put Joe Ligotti on in mornings but that lasted a few weeks. So they put their own show Renegade Radio on instead. By June of last year, the word came that WMEX would be going off because they no longer afford the expensive tower lease. Renegade did a final show on 6/30/17 and they awaited a new buyer. Any new owner had a year to get back on. Finally Ed Perry stepped forward to buy the station and it got back on the day before the deadline.

Renegade Radio continued to operate as a webstream and they use the WMEX "app" and website they'd established.
If you go to 1510wmex.com you'll see the lineup consists of one show. Renegade Radio. This has nothing to do with Ed Perry at all. Berner, etc. still has the domain name. It says "WMEX 1510 AM Radio" up the top. But "Renegade Radio", which is sure to wind up in the New England Broadcasting Hall of Fame (/sarcasm--but some like it) has nothing to do with what is now on 1510 AM (WATD simulcast) and nothing to do with what will premiere in a few weeks (oldies, etc.) You will not hear Renegade Radio on WMEX, 1510 on your dial. 1510wmex dot com doesn't mention the WATD programming now being run. There is no address of Marshfield or references to Marshfield Broadcasting Inc.

http://959watd.com/ is the website for WATD. While the site doesn't mention WMEX (they do say "WMEX Boston" on air on legal IDs), what you see there is more indicative of what you'll hear on WMEX 1510...for now..till it flies on its own with its own programming.
