Has Party added more dance?

I haven't listened consistently to Party FM but I have left the station on for most of many days. From my own listening, Party has played some more dance but the dance songs they've played have been pretty repetitive, particularly Inna's "Hot", the new BEP song, Ke$ha's "Tik Tok", Akon's "Sexy Chick". I'm glad that they haven't put Pitbull into heavy rotation, although that may be due to his songs being played out. Who knows, really?

What I don't want is for them to become a carbon copy of Pulse. Still, Party FM should be a lot bolder in breaking in dance songs. They're playing it too safe. I need to be surprised from time to time. I'll decide if I like the "surprise" or not.

Note to self: They're still a Long Island. They're still a Long Island station. They're still...

Yep theyve added much more dance (NOT at Pulse's level), but they aren't the original "Party FM" thats for sure :)

* However, Playlist is kinda tight, you'll hear the same new dance songs a bit too often for comfort, seriously, Tight....Rotation!!! Not good, but not the worst, just be prepared to learn lyrics really quicky within a few days.

*** The Traffic Jam at 5pm is a MUST for ex Pulse listeners, or anyone, DJ Serge (spelling?) Even if I didn't like dance, I couldn't deny his talent, WOW. Above what is even necessary for Market #1, a rare gem on radio.

** The Midnight Mix is also great, and they are also with great talent, no kidding.

But anyways, yep, the "tweak" has already begun. I now find it worth going through some hassle sometimes to get the frequency 87.7 / 87.75 on my radios, sometimes. But I also flip. Atleast they are not irrelevent to me like before. I think they are doing pretty good so far, and hope to see it evolve into a very good station in the near future.

(The block mix programming thing might work), rewarding old Pulse listeners with certain times and mix shows to tune in, and also allowing "traditional / original" Party listeners other hours to hear "their" mix. This works only when the times are consistent and easy to remember, NOT jumbled all over the place like 'BAI

Outside of the mixshow the ratio of Rap/Dance/Pop songs has remained the same. They do however play a few more remixes of those Pop and Hip Hop songs.

Listened tp Party yesterday, I noticed they had the MTV Hip-Hop Countdown on in the morning, and throughout the day, it was more on the hip-hop side than dance, more hip-hop heavy when Eutopia was on the air. The only time it was more dance was at night when Eddie Tegone was on. Their ads they run on 87.7 is running longer than the ads on 105.3 and would sometimes finish in the middle of a song. Smart idea to air ads for NYC on 87.7 only and ads for nassau/suffolk on 105.3, but they need to at least time the airtime for the ads right on 87.7.

Non-crossover Dance Songs in rotation on PartyFM:

Ameerah - Sounds of Missing You
Agnes - Release Me
Annagrace - Let the feelings go
Basshunter - Every Morning
Blake Lewis - Sad Song
Carefree - Broken Dreams
Ercola - Every Word
Inna- Hot
Jus Jack - Smoke
Kim Sozzi - Kiss Me Back
Lucas Prata - Remember
Plumb -Hang On
Sophia may - Come back
Tiesto - I will Be Here

That's NOT dance.

Something we can definitely AGREE upon. :)

For the record, DJ Serg did spin Sylvia Tosun's new track "Push n' Pull" on the 5:00 Traffic Jam today (12-8)

They really need to lose that Hip Hop countdown. Heck they could air Energy 98's "listening room". I really think Energy 98 has the best dance format out there, even though its internet only, TLR is broadcast on some terrestrial radio stations.
PartyFM still lacks on the trance side, it's really been gone since Andre left.

Which makes me ask this question. Is trance still a big deal and should it come back to New York radio, at the very least in the form of a specialty show?

I ask this because when I update the club events on the coalition Twitter, it's mainly deep house, house (a la Pulse and Party), and freestyle. Unless I haven't found it or that the scene is SO underground that no one wants to alert people on it, I RARELY hear anything about trance in New York City. (unless it's Tiesto or Armin Van Buuren at the Hammerstein Ballroom or something)

I know in the New England states, trance is still a big deal there. A good friend of mine, Marcie, runs a weekly show online that has trance in there. You also have shows such as "Trance Around The World with Above & Beyond" on SiriusXM that's just "amazing!" But I do wonder if somehow, trance can get on New York radio. Personally, I'd like to hear it. Dare I say Dirty Vegas "Tonight" (kinda late but it still works)..that is if there's a question regarding a lot of trance being instrumental.

That and at least have the Remix Top 40 countdown too. They do play CHR and top 40 remixes as well. Would be a perfect fit.

Are you talking about Hollywoods show? If so, that airs on KTU so they wouldn't be able to air it.

Isn't it a national syndicated show though like the AT40 and MTV countdown?

The dance music being played on the original hot 97.com is sooooo much better than the dance being played on Party FM.

They are also on Radiotime, but can't record the stream :/

Sure you can just use freecorder. check it out at www.freecorder.com

On that note I just wanted to talk a little about the evolution of Dance In NY. Now we are all familiar with the greatest HOT 97 of the late 80's 90's, cause of them I grew up listening to and loving freestyle, even though my name doesn't show it, I used to have the name freestyleluva9, but radio-info for some reason made me change it. Anyway, then they flipped, 1996 here comes KTU, they were great, had them on all the time. Also I have a few bumper stickers and t-shirts. Along comes 1998 and THE PARTY was born, what a station, playing all the new dance and house from 90's and it was just a great mix of music including hip-hop and dancehall that kept me locked in, I WAS a huge party fan. Then came Pulse, wow this by far was the best dance station I have ever listened to maybe not better than Hot 97 but a pretty darn close second. The fact of the matter is I was spoiled with pulse, like many of you have expressed on this board. I still listen to Party 105 but I think its not the same. When I was a huge PARTY fan, they would have very little repetion and a HUGE variety, i remember hearing new dance and then a song like A tribe called quest - scenario, then a TKA song then a dancehall song then of course back to 3 or 4 new dance songs, then the would thow in someclassic or new R&B...ect...ect. They used to have liners saying "Party 105 long islands party station, for a free sample press here" then it would do a clip of freestyle, house, hip-hop, danchall, R&B and Dance. Then they would say " an ANYTHING else you can party to" THAT WAS CREATIVE. My point is if party went this route once again, how great would that be? I'm sure not everyone would agree, but if you heard a station that was playing "world tour" a hip-hop song no longer played on Hot or power. Would you not stay tuned in to hear a new dance song, or 2 or 3 being played after that, then follow, with some dancehall "murder she wrote"? I know I would. I am not hating on Party at all, I guess i'm just a little dissapointed in what they've become, i wish they went back to their roots and added some creativity to the playlist. Thoughts? Comments? good or bad? This is just my opinion of course.

For the record, Party FM is not a pure Dance station. It's a Rhythmic/Dance station. There's quite a few stations around Europe with a similar format, including all of the UK's leading Dance-leaning stations. Kiss 100? The Galaxy stations? Or what about the Fun Radio network in France?
Party FM will add more Dance if it's core audience, females 18-34 years old, deman it.

It is but once a station in a market locks it up no other station can play it. So since KTU airs it, Party cannot.
