Have the rules changed re: Competing Commercials aired together

jockeyjohn has excellent point in that many dealers now owned as a group, very much like radio is. In this market, O'Brien is a big one, with footprint all over Puget Sound in strongest car-selling markets. Bigger issue is now the deals that people cut so you really can't touch placement ... even though I agree it was infinitely better when you could assemble your own sequence to match everything else going on. It was even nice, sometimes, to be able to use the stopset to slow down tempo if you had to come out with slow tune after going into that set with up-tempo content. Today...no can do.

And Dick Balch...I believe...had a few legal challenges which, ironically, had nothing to do with sales ethics. Not sure if that led to his keeping head down or not...but the spot approach even made TIME magazine at one point; and he could even sell the cars he smashed at a special premium because people wanted them for bragging rights!

A little off topic here...I grew up watching Dick Balch take that sledge hammer to the windshields of the cars on the lot. Terrific entertainment for a 12-year old!

And didn't the famous Cal Worthington (Southern California fame) occupy the same space in the 80's? I thought he was cool too.
