Almost as bad as those that say they enjoy HD2 streams! Jeesh! The gall! LOL!
HD AM can sometimes sound acceptable... but good luck getting a lock on the signal! I'm 30 miles from NYC and the only AM station I can pick up in HD at night is WOR... and even then, the receiver keeps dropping out to mono because it can't decode the 36 kbps "enhanced" HD stream and has to fall back to the 20 kbps "core" stream. Even during the daytime, WCBS and WQEW are flakey at best, and I can never get WINS to decode.
And it doesn't help that most HD Radios have poor AM sensitivity:

WVIP 93.5 FM once again is broadcasting HD side channels. The HD2, 3 and 4 had been gone for quite some time.
At this time, they are once again carrying the Music of Your Life service on HD2, and a rebroadcast of WVOX AM on HD4. Currently there is no HD3. Some may recall that the HD3 used to run Country Hits HD.

First of all: Who are "they?"
Second of all: If the answer to the first question is iBiquity, do yourself a favor and quit now while you're ahead. iBiquity never met a lie it couldn't milk for all it's worth. They've been, over the years, consistently wrong in their predictions of HD's acceptance by broadcasters and listeners, and the recent lowering of license fees just shows their desperate attempt to kick-start station conversions after the numbers started dropping precipitously.
I'd trust Charles Manson to tell me the truth long before I would trust Struble & Co.
Hey dumber, are you in the NY market? As I said elsewhere the issue with HD coverage is the math used to determine how much power a station should be assigned. The same coverage issues are occurring with OTA TV. Stations which had strong ghost free pictures prior to the digital conversion can no longer be seen. That's why some stations are now running higher power. It isn't the technology, I don't know how the engineers came up with the equation but their numbers are way off.
The more that I compare the HD Radio stations that are running relatively high power (~4% of the primary signal vs. the 1% used by other stations), the more noticeable the difference in coverage and reduced dropouts.
The stations running the more potent HD signals include WNOW, WWPR, WLTW, and WBLS.
Whether it is listening indoors with a small HD portable, or checking out HD in various towns, the improvement due to the higher power is often dramatic.

Yes, we understand that for the past how many years(?) whiners been predicting the end of HD...yet it's still here and here to stay (on FM anyway).
AM is another story, the whole dial is going over the cliff.

NYC has a brand new HD2 station.
Called La Nueva FM, it is broadcasting on WPAT (Amor) 93.1 HD2. LaNueva offers contemporary Christian music in Spanish. The songs are quite upbeat and sound similar to mainstream Hispanic music. There are dj's. A sort of Spanish equivalent of K-Love. The broadcast originates in Miami, where two stations in the area carry it.
Apparently WPAT 93.1 HD2 has been leased. Leasing of HD2's in this area seems to be increasingly common. In addition to WQHT leasing its HD2 for Indian programming several years ago, at least 3 others have done this. WKCR HD2 carries classical music from a broadcaster in NJ, WBLI HD2 recently started carrying a religious broadcaster (relayed on several translators on LI), and now we have WPAT HD2.

In addition to WEPN HD2, almost daily for at least a few weeks, at least one of the local Clear Channel HD2 channels has been broadcasting an open carrier for a few hours a day. Often this happens with two or more simultaneously. Usually the on screen display continues to show the names of the songs and artists in a normal manner, but there is no audio. In fact, as I am writing this, both WAXQ HD2 and WLTW HD2 are currently operating with this issue.
Perhaps the computer system has been losing the feeds from IHeartRadio?
The channels had been functioning reasonably reliably over the past year. So I wonder why they are experiencing so many problems now.
With regard to the new Nick Radio stream on WHTZ HD2, it seems to be a vast improvement over the former one on the channel, which endlessly repeated the same few interviews with current pop stars. Nick Radio is quite music intensive, so I believe adults that like Top 40 music can enjoy it along with the kids, with few if any commercials. It doesn't have the breathless hype that permeates Radio Disney's programming.

No more HD on 1010 WINS. Hopefully it stays that way.
October was a busy month for HD2 changes. WPAT FM 93.1 added a Spanish Christian contemporary music channel, La Nueva.
Z 100's HD2 switched to Nick Radio, with CHR music aimed at a young audience.
WVIP 93.5 restored its HD2, 3 and 4. The HD2 is now carrying the Voice of Russia, with its international news from a Russian perspective.
And WWFS 102.7 just changed from smooth jazz to Christmas music.
WLTW HD2 received a rebranding from New York Country, to Country Road. It has been having technical problems resulting in much open carrier being broadcast.

The WVIP subchannels are sometimes there, sometimes not.
WLTW-HD2 was running an iheartradio country format (premium choice, maybe?) with local IDs. Now it's just Country Road (iheartradio format) with an hourly legal ID. Many more features with the new format (sports, entertainment segments, etc.). Personally, I liked the old New York Country format.

Yes, this is all right.
I believe that Country Road on WLTW HD2 (formerly called New York Country) serves as a worthwhile alternative to Nash FM. They have a somewhat larger playlist, including more currents and older songs. During mornings, when Nash has a talkative morning show, the HD2 is music intensive. And in the evening hours, when Nash is automated, Country Road has a lively DJ.
And as a powerful HD2, Country Road actually has a more stable signal than Nash in various parts of the metro area, such as Fairfield County CT, and eastern Nassau County.
I hope Country Road stays. Perhaps soft music could replace True Oldies on WPLJ HD2. There already is an oldies station on FM
