HD Radio updates only

Seems like all the Audacy FM stations besides KLOL got new HD transmitters. The subchannels have text again but every station has no PTY. Biggest news is KHMX actually locks in HD now!

Channel Q doesn’t show the song info but 100.3 HD3 KIKK does

KKHH name dropped the -FM
KILT just shows KILT instead of BULL-FM

Tell the guy who runs HD Radio Directory - he's on here but I forget his username. You can email him on the website though.

More likely an engineer reconfigured the current HD units. Software update?

Curious how many HD transmitters are integrated into the main unit, or are a separate outboard device.

Same for me! First time in maybe 18 months or more.

Audacy has been installing new Gates Air Flexiva transmitters when they replace an older FM HD set up. The Flexiva is an FM transmitter that can run regular FM and HD out of the same box. No separate HD transmitter or antenna needed. You also need an HD Importer/Exporter for each stations transmitter to run HD1, HD2 and beyond. That would be the gates Air FMXi.

For each station that was upgraded, they would have one Flexiva transmitter and one FMXi for the HD. Depending on the type of audio processor they may have, one to three processors per station/frequency, depending how many HD channels and how they like to set things up.

Is it pretty much either Nautel or GatesAir for new FM transmitters these days, or are there other companies in the mix? I know television still has a number of choices.
Pretty Much. GatesAir costs is much less than Nautel. Other thing is Nautel has a lot of its equipment coming in from Canada but HQ is in Maine. GatesAir is made in US.
Broadcast Electronics and Continental also have FM HD transmitters. TV has the popular Rhode and Schwarz THU9. R&S does make a Radio transmitter but its not common.

Spoke too soon -- KILT-HD3's song title/artist data are gone in favor of "KILT-HD3 / Texas Country". May just be the tuner in my truck, but doubt it.

Checking now and all Audacy subchannels are just static text. I wonder why the song info got removed?

that could be a simple disconnection of data from the studio to its importer/exporter at the tower transmitter site. if no data , then it goes to the default message. a server, isp, or something else, maybe data from the playout server is down. there is quite of few things that can go down.

All this buzz about Puro Tejano on 106.1 brought up a point. Lots of people have no idea of what HD RADIO is still at these days. I seen people comment on facebook about how Tejano is already on FM on 101 and responses are crazy.

Such as: what are you talking about? Tejano isn’t on 101, that’s Reggaeton, they play some norteño cumbias but that’s not Tejano.

Others asking what’s HD? I didn’t know there was high definition radio.

Others ask, you have that in your car? What kind of magic car radio do you have?

Others mentioned KOBE HD stream of Tejano and the same thing is being said.
Amor isn’t TEJANO.

Today Should be fun! I’ll have a chance to give Houston a format I think will fit perfect for the 106.1 coverage . Always fun to launch a format. A simple announcement yesterday has over 300k in reach in just a few hours .
Good luck sir.

Hope it goes well for you! But what will the originating station be?
