Hearing Many Local Businesses Using Satellite Radio

I used to drive a motorcoach, I would have WINS on, does that fit under the criteria since they were paying passengers?

WINS is all talk, so no music royalties.
I have had Z-100 piped in and streamed in Florida and New York from time to time.

If you see what I'm getting at with there being no resolution because of all the different options and scenarios.

I don't work for free (except through the Knights of Columbus.)

These are well intentioned "laws" to compensate and protect the song writers, but there is only so far you can go with it before we are all guilty of breaking the law for the most innocent of reasons.

I agree, and as with most things, it's not necessarily about breaking the law, but rather getting caught.

I've had XM running in my taxis for more than a decade.
Not more than four passengers will ever be listening.
Should I have a commercial account?
What if 25 other drivers who rep the same company also sign up, does that raise the number of potential listeners to a hundred?
We are all independent drivers, but the public sees one taxi company.

hearing satellite in more stores in the CHICAGO market. Good for the shoppers and SIRIUS/XM shareholders. Sure is an active NASDAQ issue 8)

Most active because there are so many shares outstanding.

It was Mel's idea.

Walk in plenty of corner pizza stores around Manhattan and it's KTU, Z100 or NOW blaring off a boom box. I think it's hard for satellite radio reception around a lot of the big buildings for many stores... reception is spotty in the car, let alone low in a concrete building.

They have terrestrial repeaters in most markets that help to fill in those gaps created by the buildings.

Just like anything else, it's not perfect, but it helps in a lot of areas.

I can pick up satellite inside Tampa Airport as a result. I wouldn't be surprised if the tunnels have reception, now, since GPS can follow you through.

Wow, are you saying that GPS receivers will work through the Hudson River tunnels?

Yes. Sometime between '06 and '08, GPS reception was made possible. AM reception has been available for years in the Lincoln.

I'm told that the current law makes a distinction between "piped in" music and playing a "consumer audio device" in a public location. Playing unlicensed music through hard-wired ceiling speakers is not permitted, while a radio on the counter in a mom & pop shop is OK.

While I was in Miami Beach during the Winter Music Conference (a dance music industry meeting) this past week, a couple of the souvenir shops along Collins and Washington Avenues had BPM and Electric Area going on.

Backhandedly I couldn't help to think that this was all set up, since Sirius/XM was down here broadcasting pool parties and the Ultra Music Festival.

Sorry to have missed you, I drive a taxi in Miami Beach, but I kept Chill on most of the time.
