Hello. Question From New Member

Cumeanary,

First, I am not a doc...the initials are D.R.

Second, I am not paying for my show, I am being paid for it. We are not like some of the other car shows out there that are sponsored by car dealers to sell cars. The show is produced by CBS. We are about the automotive news in LA as well as the "secrets" of the car biz.

KFWB still has some infomercials on the air over the weekends; we, like Food News, The Film Freak etc. are NOT.

WOW, first post and my balls are already being busted.

Where is your show on?

Dan

I'm curious to hear your thoughts, either on this thread, or at my email at
[email protected].

Do you REALLY believe this is "Bean" of the "Kevin & Bean" show?

Do you have a reason to believe it is not? Clues, etc.?

Hey Bean, welcome to the Seattle board and we look forward to your insights on the business. I buy radio on both coasts and several points in between so I for one welcome your views and comments. There is a great core of professionals who post here who really do have some great information and I enjoy hearing from them. There are also some here who I honestly can't understand their agenda or what motivates them to say what they say. I guess it's all part of the fun.

I'm in the camp that it better not to say who you are unless you're Gary Crow!!
He's the dean of personalities here in the Northwest! (of course we don't get his
real thoughts of the crap that's flown around him) Slayton, River, to name a couple.
Or boss Bill!

I'd never give away any inside info but if something was to leak on here, you'd be
the first one the boss man would be talking to if you posted with your real name.

If it wasn't a big deal, why have people on this board tried to call out others here?
to put them to shame?

Mr Bean,

Now that you're here you'll have to chime in with your thoughts about the big radio company hatchet coming down on personality radio, it most likely will help you and the Guru to get to know each other better.

Here in Seattle this past year or so: Bob Rivers and crew, Icahbod Cane, T-man, Jim Dai (maybe last year) I know there's more! Night guy and PD Jay Kelly, Marty Riemer about a 1 1/2 ago. Most likely missing more.

Has the PPM changed your show in LA? Glad you're on board!!

There's a lot of talent in that list. As a fan of personality radio I would certainly rather listen to Bob Rivers or T-Man talk than hear 10 or 12 songs an hour.

There are markets where the personality-free replacement has equaled the ratings of the expensive talk show and it's hard for me to criticize the station owners from making that business decision though since it's their money, not mine.

When it happens to me, it will be my money though but so far, our show remains #1 or #2 25-54 every month, as it was for several years under the diary system also. We are certainly aware of the PPM short attention span though and do our best to not give listeners a reason to tune out. So far, so good.

I like twenty eleven...

However a pet peeve of mine is when people put an AND in the middle.

Two thousand AND eleven.

I hear that all the time on NPR.

Applause to anyone with a good radio gig this year!

Go Bean!

I use a fake name because in my past i worked for two different corporate radio clusters in the same market. I did not want to be not trusted with certain info because my name is on a chat board, though I do not and have never divulged any secrets.

I too like twenty eleven....yet I liked two thousand ten. Go figure. As far as real names, I am against it....how else can I be "honest" on these boards?

I liked 20-01, 20-02, etc. from the beginning of the decade, though most rarely used it. I think the only media figure that I can remember doing that was Sunday Morning's Charles Osgood.

Bean,

As you and I know, 25-54 is the sweet spot! Now go get a big piece of that Seacrest pie! I'm sure you guys aren't hurtin.

I wonder if Rivers will do his show from North Bend? KZOK and
others will feel the impact by June 6am-10am, if not sooner.

Great question for anyone in the know: What's Rob Tupper, T-man
up to? I know he worked on a sports network before KUBE.
I personally enjoyed his sports work much better the the KUBE stint.

Here's to 2000 and 11! Yeah, I work for PBS!

Has there been any previous attempt to syndicate the Kevin & Bean show into Seattle? Do you expect it to be tried? If tried, to work or not? If not tried, what would be the main reason(s)? I read that CBS put them in Boise and a few other places and just recently into San Francisco I think. Could it fit say on 96.5?

Anybody else curious about the timing of this thread's appearance?

I have only listened to a few clips on the internet and am not a partisan for or against.

Syndicated morning shows tend not to do well in Seattle. Including Howard Stern when he was on KISW last decade.

I suspect K&B would have some street cred in Seattle since half their show originates here but to succeed they would need to have some localized content and in that lies the kicker with trying to make a syndicated morning show appeal to the local audience... You can't make everyone feel special....

Who knows though if it saves a company some $$$ to run a syndicated show then they just might give it a shot....

I don't see how saying "half of our successful morning show that has been broadcast in L.A. has been originating from Seattle for many years" gives any Seattle "street cred."

I'm not aware of any Seattle stations ever being interested in carrying the Kevin & Bean show but I disagree strongly that not being 100% local would be a deterrent to success here. If the content is compelling, people will listen. Our guests and topics tend to appeal to young Americans who consume pop culture. That's universal. Now if we could only figure out the funny.....

Thank you for asking.

Bean
