Hello

I don't know if anyone remembers me but I'm still alive and kicking...Still using the voice for commercials and voice over productions. Just hit 69 on my birthday two weeks ago. Getting up there.

Of course we remember you Tom! You qualify as a NEPA radio legend in my book. If you search back in the archives here, you've been mentioned several times, including a "where are they now" post. So - where are you now and do you have a website with some of your current work?

I'm living inWilkes-Barre Township..No web site yet...just got a new computer with a 400 gig hard drive to put in an audio program and have space to store all the "STUFF" . I worked at the Wyoming Valley Sanitary Authority for the past 15 years and retired this past Feb. The "kids" are all grown up with their own famalies and we now have four grandchildren. My wife Fran and I are going on 44 years of marriage and my big hobby now is metal detecting. I've been at it for the past 20 years. Radio is still in my blood and I love doing spots.

Good to hear from someone who knew how to do it and did it right. A dying breed unfortunately.

Nice to hear that...Don't use the word dying..I'm too old for that. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Woodsy! Hey, great to see you here, old boy. You have indeed been mentioned many times on this board, all of it favorably, of course.

A good friend of mine recently did a studio at home for next to nothing, like under $300. If you need any advice on gear, like microphones or mixers or software, give a holler here.

One of our employees here, Mickey Woods (Marion) mentioned you in the not-too-distant past. Since so many of the local stations have gone down the toilet lately, have you noticed them at the sewer authority? :D

I have the mike...What I need is a small mixer....and a studio program...I know cool edit pro is now owned by I think Adobe????not too sure. I need something that will give me just the ability to record and edit audio only.

I use a Mackie for the Radio Home Visitor. Mine is 10 channels in, but they make a smaller model.

Tom, is your son( Tom,Jr) still in the area? Has he continued to do any work in radio? I recall him as a nice young man.

How could anyone forget the "Voice of WBRE" and a WARM legend??? I myself have always wanted to do some voiceover work since leaving radio (never happened). However, my wife had sent me (as a gift) to a course with Dan Levine at Marywood on getting into voiceover work. I am not sure if this will help you but at the class, Dan Levine said that all you needed for a good home studio was a good mic and an M-BOX. I went to the Guitar Center store in the new Montage strip mall and purchased an MBOX2 which is a mini version of the actual MBOX. This is a small unit that plugs into one of the USB ports. You plug your inputs into the unit. It has a program that comes with it called ProTools. Includes CD tutorial, etc. I am still in the "playing around with it" phases. I thought that this might be useful to look into. Good Luck!

Hi Tom from a former colleague at WBRE (I was in the sports department as a part-time shooter back in 1989-90).

Cool Edit is now indeed Adobe Audition, but the price is STAGGERING. After I changed computers and lost my Cool Edit Pro login key (which Adobe promptly refused to honor, instead offering me $250 off the Audition program), I switched to a different program - Audio Edit Magic. It works well for simple 2-track and 4-track stuff and is only $30.

Hope this helps. Have a great holiday!

Cheers,
Rick

Hi Rick...Thanks for the info...How are you doing...Long time no see...That cheaper program is just what I need..Nothing fancy but something that I might be able to tweek a little. I'm going to look into it.

Howdy Tom, it has been a long time indeed. Things are good. I left the area back in the mid-90s, then left radio for good in 2000. Got my Ph.D. in Mass Communications and now work as a PR/Communications Specialist for the US subsidiary of an international business insurance group. I still keep my eyes and ears tuned into the biz, though.

Glad to see that you're doing well. Hope the program works out for you. Enjoy retirement!

Hello Tom:

Great to have you on this board. You are indeed a true NEPA radio legend with one of the best voices in the biz.
Do you happened to know what ever happened to Al Levy (spelling?) from Mutual? I believe he was also a local guy before heading the Mutual.

Thanks for the nice comps...most appreciated. Al LaVie is living in Bishopsville, Maryland. It's about 5 miles away from Ocean City. Al always loved O.C. and when he retired from Mutual, He bought a home in the area and has been there for almost 30 years. I met Al when I worked for WTOP Radio. He was news director for Mutual at the time. He spoke of his parents living in Plymouth and having worked for WBRE. We became very good friends. In fact after meeting him he hired me as a correspondent for Mutual...A big break for me. We still keep in touch by computer. Al is about 83 or 84.

Thanks Tom, It nice to know that he is doing well. I remember him well on Mutual Radio and also remember him during the JFK funeral on that network. A great news man. I believe that WICK was a Mutual affiliate during that time period.
