Hey everybody. They took Philly's smooth jazz again. I know tons of people who love smooth jazz on the radio and now they are pissed just like me that its gone. Please send letters to the new station letting them know how much you hate the new format and want smooth jazz back. Contact RADIO ONE to ask if they can bring it back. They own a couple stations in the Philly area. http://www.radio-one.com/about/contact.asp

C'mon lets get our music back. Screw what everyone else thinks. BRING BACK WJJZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Are you sure you mean "tons of people" and not "tens of people"?

They should have never taken it off in the first place. So just because some consultant say i think people dont like smooth jazz, That means i cant listen to it anymore?? Smooth jazz is a niche genre. Just like the rest. How you gonna ask someone who just likes rock or country, if they like to listen to smooth jazz??? Of course the gonna say no. There are tons of fans who cant get there music now because they think not eveyone likes it. Who cares. I like it. Bring it back..

See thats the crap im talkin about right there. Why do you think there are not alot of people who like smooth jazz? I would like to know how you can up with ur info? You think nobody else likes smooth jazz because you dont??????? I have my own Smooth jazz myspace and there are thousands of smooth jazz fans on my friend list. Not to mention all my plays.

The low ratings are usually a pretty good barometer.

"JJZ is done stop crying i miss it too but life moves on"

So if somebody takes my most favorite station away, just dont say anything?......... Right............
Change comes from people speaking out. If my station is gone and I say nothing. I obviously dont really "love" it then.

How about some support from people who actually love smooth jazz. Don't need any stupid comments from people who already don't like smooth jazz. If you like rock then go listen to rock don't come down on me for liking my style of music.

The ratings are not a good barometer. Not everyone knew where the station was. The signal strength was not all that good either. That doesn't mean people dont like it.

Get XM or Sirius or Music Choice on your cable TV--you can listen to Smooth Jazz all day/night w/o any commercials...it's done on commercial radio for the most part...

Smooth jazz cant be free? I should be able to tune in on the radio in my car. Should not have to buy cds just fill the ride to work lol. Plus what about new artists u know? And xm radio and the others u mention are not free or on the radio. :(

Nope. It's not going to be free, just like Standards, Easy listening, Big band, Bluegrass...well you get the drill--they don't target the right audience which doesnt pay the bills...thus it's gone. Deal with it.

Let me say that I'm sorry for the smooth jazz fans who will miss out with the loss of WJJZ. As a lifelong radio geek, I completely sympathize with losing a station that played something you loved. And you are correct to say that there is a loyal fan base for this music. For example, XM's Watercolors channel, all smooth jazz all the time, has been and continues to be one of XM's most popular channels.

However, correctly or incorrectly, Greater Media has determined that the format was not sustainable from a business standpoint, so they went in a direction they believe is the right one. Whether that business-driven decision is successful only time will tell.

97.5 FM is the property of Greater Media, and they have every legal and moral right to program any format they like. Former WJJZ listeners have every legal and moral right to protest Greater Media's decision. Although the radio marketplace does not bode well for the resurrection of the format in Philadelphia, I wish you best of luck in your endeavors.

Considering what Greater Media paid for an overpriced stick originally licensed in Trenton (that Nassaw moved city of license to Burlington-Phila. to increase it's value) and what it cost to move the stick to Wyndmoor PA, and engineer an FM footprint so it is directional. The GM can and should do whatever needs to be done with the format to make it profitable. I don't agree with changing to the new format, I don't like it but business is business bottom line is what counts. The listeners have no input sad to say.

Get an internet radio and/or portable internet protocol device and stop obsessing over your reception limitations, unless your bubbly personality is permanently enshrined with a learning disability.

I think I hear violins playing in the background or is that the elevator where you can find smooth jazz now in Philadelphia.

Smooth jazz is not elevator music. I have never heard it on an elevator. Wtf is wrong with you people. Whats up with the rude comments? Anyways like i said, If you just give up and "deal with it" then nothing will ever change.

Juse, Juse, Juse. I've been around these parts for quite a while so let me give you some advice: Just stop. These people are not going to agree with you. They're barely able to sympathize with you. This just isn't the place. You've made your point and people have disagreed with it. That's sorta what discussion boards are about. If you continue to post disagreements to their disagreements, you create a never-ending cycle of ridiculousness which only serves to frustrate you and to diminish your original point.

To be clear, I miss Smooth Jazz too and I support your right to complain to Greater Media. I just want you to save yourself the frustration you will definitely experience by continuing this thread.

i too miss smooth jazz on the radio in philly, but in all honesty, WJJZ's music mix was so so SOOO bad, i really don't miss it. i believe every city should have a smooth jazz outlet, but if it's going to sound like that, forget it. i agree it's a damn shame you gotta pay for decent smooth jazz, but it's just the way of the world. it's like saying you can have free lodging sleeping on a park bench or you can pay a few bucks for a decent motel room. WJJZ's music mix to me was as bad as sleeping on a park bench. i'll pay the few bucks for satellite radio.
