Herald: WBCN wooing Dennis, Callahan, "guy talk"?

I'd welcome D&C going to WBCN so WEEI can go back to being a sports radio station between 6 and 10 AM

I hear ya' but that would not happen even if they left. That would be like saying that RKO would go back to being a centerest (sp)?) talk station if Rush and Howie left. Part of the reason that D and C have the numbers on EEI that they do have is that they are doing (albeit poorly) white, suburban, male, oriented talk. When they veer from sports is when they get into trouble (Metco Gorilla etc). In the case of D and C they're drawing in more than just a sports radio audience. I also agree that it is posturing and they are not going anywhere.

Maybe they can do a morning show with Mike Adams and hire, let's see, a barmaid who goes by the name of Candy... and... never mind. Tried and failed. :D

What makes him a "sell out"? Sirius handed him half a BILLION (with a "B") dollars......... as if you wouldnt have jumped ship too?.

Regardless of whether or not someone would do it, thats a sellout. He went to Sattelite radio for the money, well, maybe not just for the money, he can say whatever the hell he wants there, but thats what the guy was getting at.

I simply just don't like Stern.

I used to be a fan. He could have done his show if he cleaned up his act. I dont need to hear the f word or his junior high comedy. I think he's a fraud ( would love to ask his ex- wife). Robin and Gary kissing Howard's ass is not good radio. Thats part of the reason why I went with XM. Im disappointed that the two will be merging.

And O and A blowing their own horns, complaining about everything, kissing their own asses talking about how great they are, picking fights with Mancow who is completely irrelevant, IS good radio?. I wouldnt have had issue with your argument about Stern if you had not followed it with " that's why I went with XM" Your whole Stern is a sellout" posture makes no sense to me. If they end up merging that does nto even have to effect you, you can choose not to purchase the Sirius programming. I guess it'll be a tiered sub system where you can stick with what you have or expand to include channels from the opposite service that you didnt have before they merged. No one will be forced to take Stern if they dont want him for example.

monopolies are never a good thing.

isn't wireless internet radio going to blow it all away anyway?

Not unless

a.) They can find a way to get wireless internet everywhere, for free, and get it stabilized so it doesn't drop out.
b.) Internet radio stations can find a way to make money so that bandwidth charges don't drive them out of business.
c.) The RIAA doesn't drain their pockets with royalty fee demands to the point where they shut down.

I don't listen to O and A either. My point being I went with XM mostly for baseball but there was a certain satisfaction in not giving Stern my business.
Making fun of retarded people or talking about farts is pretty juvenile.

Stern? Juvemile? ok thts your opinion and you're entitled to it. but that si not what you stated, you started out with the premise that he was a "sell out" So if you could listen for free, you would, and would he still be "juvenile" then? whatever. YOu said you were a fan until he went to Sirius, your issue isnt that Stern is Juvenile its more that you're cheap and dont want to pay for the show which is also your perogative. BUT saying; " I went with XM becuase I didn't want to give Stern the money"? but you dont listen to Opie and Anthony? what's the difference? you're still "giving O and A the money" it is still at least a tacit endorsement of them. I just think your rationale is pretty thin.

neither quote is wrong, I wish technology would be available to allow a receiver to get both XM and Sirius as an alternative to his bailout of the companies....

I continue to have the pleasure of missing Stern and O/A......and if WBCN can isolate the "boobery" to that one station, maybe WEEI could get back to doing good sports radio

Please take them, WBCN!

Im disappointed that the two will be merging.

Plleeeeaaasseee no more Free-Fm! Boston has been priviged to dodge that bullet so far. Try to make BCN work, guy talk isn’t the answer.

I'd love for Boston to have a station like WTKS "Real Radio" in Orlando. It's eclectic talk that worked really well down there for a while. I'm not sure how their ratings are these days but I thoroughly enjoyed shows like the Philips Phile when I lived there.

TKS is basically "Guy talk" without the label. It's NOT a great lin up at all though. Far from ciompelling hosts. That station SOUNDS like the medium market that it is. Listen to them online, you'll see.

Outside of Philips, I'd agree. The morning show appeals to the lowest common denominator. You could put together and all-star lineup for a large market like Boston though...if any of the programmers had an imagination.

You're putting words in my mouth I never said I would listen to Stern if he were still on free radio. I think Stern's act is old. I stopped listening to him long before he went to Sirius. I say he is a sell-out because he talks about caring about his fans and then charges them a fee for his show on radio and on-demand that is selling out his fans so he can make a buck.
My purchase of XM is more an edorsement to MLB rather than O and A even if they do get their share.
