WE HEAR:

# That the seven fired newsies from WRKO have sent a holiday missive to their colleagues still at the station urging them to “enjoy a few rounds on us” at the company holiday bash today. “Some of our former salaries . . . are helping to pay for your food and beverage,” says the note. Ho, ho, d’oh.

Maybe they should follow the example of John DePetro and just move on with class.. Oh wait, nevermind.... ::)

why should they move on?? 'rko sounds terrible, jason & julie are disasters..

It seems that all seven have moved on...and showed much more class than anyone at the Entercom Station. Seems like some of them are having fun with their old employers..nothing wrong with that, is there ???

Rumors are that WRKO will soon become all play-by-play sports...with repeats of Celtics, Red Sox and Revolution and Boston College...when not actually airing a live games. All the talk...again rumors..will move to WEEI...Sports talk, that is...except in the morning when those two buff-oons talk about anything and everything and show just how uninformed they really are. Where's Clear Channel when you really need them ? ? ?

Hi Lucy!

Considering the state of broadcasting these days (I'm talking BOTH RADIO & TV) and how it's easier to dismiss or "terminate a team of professionals" who work well and on behalf of their owners...I wonder if the words: LEAVE WITH CLASS are applicable any longer? :-\

Is it appropriate to continue "kissing up" after the emotional and professional damage has been done? ???

I don't know if WRKO would be all play-by-play sports or not (what, a re-run of the Celtics game at noon?)
though there's still the interesting idea that they could move WEEI's calls & talk hosts to 680 (slightly better signal in some areas) along with the Sox and Celts, etc. 850 could be talk (Howie DID use to be on that freq
at one time); who knows.

They've been running an ad for Boston Coffee Cake company on WRKO and it keeps saying at the end
that people can take advantage of some kind of offer by entering code "WEEI" (odd...)

The 9-noon slot is still "TBA". The Herald's Joe Sciacca was on this morning. Who knows, are they warming the seat for Finneran? He's supposed to go to court next month and maybe if he doesn't wind up serving time
(I forget the charge; perjury or something) he could be on 'RKO.

It is becoming clear each time you listen to the sinking WRKO that is clearly owned by EnterCon.

Maybe Howie Carr will throw his wife into the fireplace tonight - Or maybe they will have dwarf tossing....

Dwarf tossing--another short joke. You need to find some new material.

btw a couple of "they're out there...is there a full moon?" calls to Lauzier last night filling in for Todd. Well
at least we can say there are three stations doing local talk ('BZ joins in at 8 pm) at night...Graham 7-10
on 'TKK, Todd F. or his fill-ins (unless there's Celtics) on 'RKO, and Sully on 'BZ. It's not like Clear Channel-
land where, if they owned one of those stations, there would be syndie instead at 7 or 8 pm. Whether or
not your find those hosts entertaining is up to you.
I heard that down in Prov., WPRO ran an ad in the ProJo poking fun at WHJJ's nearly all syndie (and now
nearly all-conservatalk) lineup: "Do you want your radio from Providence or New York?"

Re: HERALD: WRKO NEWSIES FIGHT BACK/good

what is this attitude of "move on with class"? Move on? Some idiots in management screw people and they are just suppose to "move on"?
That is a loser attitiude. When somebody screws with you, you hit back. Hard. Good for the news people and good for depietro.
The expression "just business nothing personal" can cut both ways. They have alot of money to pay for the red sox. The news people should try and grab some....

>>>Some idiots in management screw people and they are just suppose to "move on"?

exactamundo-- jason & julie are the enemies of 'rko, not the fired people, let's not blame the wrong people..

yoyoradio...

Do you think the "I'm gonna pay you back for firing me" theory comes into play here? ??? Especially when a broadcast talent has bent over backwards to please an employer or 'group of suits?'

'Moving on' is easy for some of us...and devasting for others! Particularly if the first question out of a new program director's (or potential employer's) mouth is:

"I heard it through the grapevine that you're (difficult to work with, stubborn, over opinionated, or some other "term of endearment") type of employee? Is this true?"

How does a prospective new or 2nd interview applicant respond to a charge that may or may not be true? Does he or she lie? Distort the truth a little? Or get very defensive? If there's a 'lack of eye contact' from an applicant toward a new broadcast boss, unlimited stuttering and/or a little too much twitching...doesn't one or more of these guarantee a failure to be hiredh ?

I keep thinking of the old song lyric:

"A man hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest..."

Do you think there's any truth in this? And whether the line is connected to broadcasting...and especially: RADIO???

Good to see Casablanca fighting back ... and hearing him on this board. Someone was sending missives privately that Casablanca vanished. I requested that person NOT e mail me privately again, but haven't reported it to the moderators yet.

The Newsies should band together and bring their skills to Greater Media or CBS and see what happens.

Really stick it to WRKO for the holidays.

Hi Joe!

The gesture that will really "stick it to WRKO" is when the listener and advertiser support diminish!

Many of changes at radio stations have a tendency to occur when the audience numbers are down...and the dollars are no longer coming IN! ::)

Boy that Depietro is really "hitting them back hard", eh?

Get a lawyer? Get an online petition? Be nasty online?

Yup...he's really "hitting them hard"!

To me, he just looks foolish....

>>>Yup...he's really "hitting them hard"!

there's a strategy, how can you not see it??

THEY will, in court...

Strategy?

Depetro has virtually no standing in court.

The station has acted within it's rights to discharge an employee.

As a licensee they can control the programming in any way they see fit.

Case dismissed.
